Q:

Air Arms S510 FAC carbine vs BSA R10??? Which is the…

better choice? For me, I like the idea of not having to consider the possibility of Gamo influence on the BSA….

I recall many guys here owning/own Air Arms (I once had a custom super short AA S410..I think it had a 9″ barrel), and I recall nothing but praise.

I love the thumbhole version of the S510 with adjustable butt stock on PA for 1,060.00. I also like the green (hunter) stock version for 100 or so bucks cheaper…but the thumbhole looks primo.

Anyway, I am comparing the R10 to the AA instead of the Super 10 because I didn’t realize the Super 10 has to have the bottle removed each time you refill (in lieu of the AZ bottle mod).

Lets here your opinions…thanks!

I have an AA S410 ERB in .22. It is a great air rifle, but I find it too long and heavy. I have been fighting the just-buy-it urge for the 510 carbine with the longer air tube. If money were no object and I liked bullpups, I’d buy an Edgun and not look back. But what are they now, $1800-$2000. I just don’t like bullpups that much.

The AA, or the FX sound good.

Ask Uncle Hoot how he likes his AA S510 Carbine. I thought I read that he was getting 40 shots with the longer air tube.

Uncle Hoot wrote me and dangled that Carbine in front of my face like a carrot in front of a horse…But he has not gotten back to me yet..EARTH TO HOOT? COME IN HOOT???

Check your PM’s my boy….

My S510 is a delight. If you can stand 25 FPE, turn back the power wheel a couple notches and get 40 shots easily, perhaps more, depending on weight of the pellet.

Steve, why don’t you send your S410 to Jim Gaska, (Marmot_Militia) and have your barrel cut back to 15″, and cut the shroud back as well, and re-thread the end so it will screw right back on.

Should be cheaper than forking out for a new AA. You keep your long air tube too. Fact is, you could leave a couple inches in the shroud and drop a few more “cups” in there to quiet that rascal down. Easily done.

PM me if you have problems. (about the shroud baffles, not your sex life, or money problems)

I believe, for the money, the FX Royale 400 in .22 caliber (50fps) would be a delight to shoot, is ultra-quiet, and grabs my interest a lot. Problem is I’m a “Leftie” and the slimy, low life, bastards only offer it in a right hand stock….filthy swine!!!

Nobody cares more than Uncle H 😯 😯 T

Hey Cygnus X,
If you want to get FX, I think now Precision Airguns and Pomona Airguns carry them as well. Just a heads up in case you didn’t know. Maybe not the full line of them but at least Royale.

Who does not want an Edgun? Well I guess that would be me.

I don’t trust the distribution of parts. I don’t like bullpups that much. And above all I like repeaters, given the choice, I will always take a repeater.

Edit: They are also far far over priced, a fine gun no doubt, but they would not be at this price level if there were enough to fill the demand, and it is just what I speak of in the above paragraph about availability.

It is not from lack of use with single shots,I have spent a lifetime of putting a lot of ammo thru a hell of a lot guns. I suspect I have shot as much or a great more than any of you with single shots, Ruger #1’s Ruger #3’s Sharps Mdl 1874 of various models and Sharps 1878 Borschardts, and Winchester single shots just to name a few.

If I choose a single shot these days it better have a quality that makes it stand above the crowd of repeaters, and my AF 130 FPE cast bullet rifle andmy Ranger 45 do that, so I own them.

I have hunted with them, I have competed with them, I have gone into dangerous situtations with them and I am not even counting the thousands of pellets and cast bullets thru AirForce and dreaded Crosman products.

Single shots are no more or no less accurate than a same quality semi auto or bolt gun, it has been proven on the range, in the hunting field and on the battle field time and time again, nay sayers have bashed repeaters for centuries, but they are in fact a better gun.

Say what you want about making you a better marksman, I say bullshit, if you don’t have patience and discipline, a single shot is not going to help you in the hunting fields. In the hunting fieds what a single shot is going to do is cost you game. We all miss, we are not perfect and a Edgn is not going to make you perfect.

Think not?

Well think back to Eds infamous pig killing video? That hog would have been dead in seconds with a Conquest.

Edguns are good quality rifles if they work for you and tweak your chubby so much the better, they are just not for me.

As for me I will continue to watch the Conquest and see if it holds up and how difficult parts are to obtain, if it does not work out I will look else where for my next purchase.

I love the EdGun but I’m with you the price is way out of line. $1000 or less, But $2500? To be honest I shoot my Disco without a scope and get 1″ groups with it and most scoped guns on here don’t do any better, and get this,,,, I’m not the best shot in the hills of West Virginia.
Just 2 days ago I went into a pawn shop and found an Air Force 22 Talon and paid $270 for it, and it was the old type with the old Hammer and Barrel, and it shot like Shit. So I put my Extra 24″ 22 caliber Barrel on it changed out the hammer with the new version plus hammer weight, and the gun shot dime sized groups at 45 yards and speed at 980 FPS using the 28 frain EJ Pellets setting on 37 on the wheel. I didn’t go any higher than that and the 14.5 grain pellet shot at 1100 FPS. So thats high enought for a pellet.,, . I happened to have an extra co2 valve and took the top off of it to insert my spare high flow valve and set it by the gage I made when I got my First Condor from Pyramyd Air, that way I can always go back to factory settings. And wham,, I had a First rate gun for a cheep price considering what most are selling for now.
But the best part is,, if the Air Force rifle was made in the UK it would cost 3 times the money, I think Ed needs to set up shop here to get out of some of the high cost of Customs and shipping and Tariffs that are put on items coming here, he could really make a Living sitting in his shop and making Ed Guns,, You reading this ED? 😀 😀 Come over here Son and make some money LOLOL

I had a Bsa 25.

It had a great barrel, but I did not like all the steps to cock & fire the gun every time, sold it.

I have a had an Air arms s410 carbine, put on the longer classic air tube.
It was a great gun.

I sold it & now have a AA S410 carbine again love the gun. With the classic air tube.

I like having a adjustable gun on the fly.

And gun, if I do my part will take pests well over 100 yards easy.

Who does not want an Edgun? Well I guess that would be me.

That shroud that he had custom made is the cat’s ass. Very cool indeed.

I’m not a bullpup fan so I haven’t had the hots for an Edgun. It is tempting to drop a .25 into a sporter stock. That sound appealing to me. Ed’s engineering and execution are outstanding from what I have read and heard of. It’s also nice that he communicates whit his customers.

what about and edgun ?

Very good point Cyguns X! If I am even considering saving the kind of coin for that Evanix bullpup..or even droping a grand on a AA…I might consider going for the Gold with the Edgun…after all, I’ve always wanted one! Hell who doesn’t want one???

what about and edgun ?

the fx guns are awesome as well…i just wont buy them as AOA is the sole importer and i will not support them in any way

i might pick up one in denmark someday

i had the aa erb…it was awesome but very long and front heavy..accuracy was awesome, and shotcount was about 40 shots

i had the aa classic for a short while, pyramid send me the wrong gun…but i got a chance to play with it, and its much better balanced than the erb..but you sacrifice some consistency and you go a bit down in power and about 30 shots

now i have the carbine…and im happy as can be….its accurate as hell…power is about 27 according to specs…i havent chronied it…i dont know where my chrony is at the moment…but i can hit scrubjay sized (i say sized as its illegal to shoot those, but i can hit a target like that) out to 50 with ease…and often have i strethed it to 70-80 yards…its not that its in accurate, it me who fails to estimate hold over

dont worry about power…27 fpe will kill just about anything an airgun can shoot within reason…so will 32 fpe and thats the range a .22 should be in if you ask me…27 to 32 fpe is perfect ….now if you go up to a .25 then 45+is desireable….just to keep trajectory somewhat flat

ohh the carbine gets about 2 mags worth of shots on full power…you can easily extend that by turning down power….a squirrel dies with 12 fpe :-)…when i hunt i rarely shoot two mags…but you might have hunting grounds that allows you to shoot 4 mags what do i know….

the carbine does bark a little louder than the classic and erb…thats just how it is, get slide on ldc if its a problem

i like the aa rear cocking….but the sidelever is smooth as hell, and i would get that in a heartbeat too

Like RC, I’d go with the AA or FX. The AAs510 Extra FAC is good for about 20 full power, high accuracy shots. Am not impressed with the “Poplar” stock’s hardness; if I had it to do over, walnut.

The Royale 500 in .25 is giving 40-50 shots per fill. It also has the thumbhole stock.

I know that my Scorpion was very accurate so I can attest to BSA barrels. AA uses LW barrels and they are very good barrels…so I think I would choose the AA at the end of the day….

my bad… I didn’t read the post very well….
