Q:

Air-Force air pump failure

My 8 month old pump quit working today. After pumping 1000PSI into the tank it becomes almost impossible to pull the handle back up. Is there a home cure for this problem short of getting a scuba tank? Would silicone spray help the valve start working or just send back for repair? Thanks.

Got a red fan like Roackcreek’s blue one at WalMart on clearance last week for $3.00+. I use one on the open front and the other on the motor.

😀 Well I filled the Talons tank for the first time with my new scuba tank and I must say that it is the way to go. No more burned up hand-pump o-rings for me. Thanks roachcreek, moneyshot and ssshooter for steering me in the CORRECT direction.

its why were all here, brother… 😎

For K Valve tanks… (most common)

For DIN Valve tanks… (common on 3500psi+ tanks)

Some tanks come with a combined “K-DIN”… which is a DIN valve with a special K Valve adapter that screws in.

Well bought a spanking new 80CF scuba tank today Any ideas about a charging kit, I am somewhat partial to the Air-Hog one. The one on the right. http://www.airhog.com/ch_kits.htm
Any other ideas would be looked at.

One thing I have noticed, since my little Harbor Frieght Pancake quit, it delivered 85 PSI to the Shoebox, and I replaced it with a larger one and set it at 100 PSI, I get much faster fills.

Eddie,
I made that tank holder out of a sheet of 2 inch 4×8 foot sheet of pink inuslation and a large role of duct tape. I cut 2/3rds or so into 1’x2′ peices, on all but one I cut 3 5.75 inch holes equally spaced. The one with no holes is the base, I still have enough left over to make a top for it.

I should really help protect it on hunting trips against bumps and even a car crash gawd forbid.

I need to find a nice case for it to hide the ugly duct tape.

Roachcreek

did you see where a guy has two shoe box’s set up for his air needs, it would be nice to have a shoebox about twice the size of the original, wonder if he has thought about that.twice the size for twice the price. ??? might be a nice place to be compared to buying a big compressor.

Eddie,

Those are real popular in the summer, but whern I tried to find one this spring I had a hard time.

Home Depoe and Walmart are good places to find them, usually for around 12 bucks.

I like your bottle station Charlie nice and safe! Shoebox is great isin’t it, I just had mine running last night to top off my 4500 tank it was down to 3000psi takes around 4 hours to get it back to 4500 I love mine! By the way I use a fan also to me that is the only way to go cly don’t even get close to warm! I used one I had out of an old computer I tore apart! wher did you get your fan at nice size! 😆

I put this kit in my AF pump and it works great every time now.

kglad its the piston oring… u didnt get the whole pump apart by wat u said theres a part were it pulls out not screws…
look at this (i know its benjamin hand pump but its the same inside)

http://www.marauderairrifle.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=819

it helps a lot look at figure 6 and 9 theres ur problem… part 30 its the piston end oring or the check valve oring (not usually)

they sent me one, too after my 6 month old af pump did the same as yours.

when the kit arrived, i started taking my pump apart when i found a crushed check-valve spring. after calling, they sent a replacement for that spring.

after replacing the spring and the two o-rings i’d encountered up to that stage of dis-assembly, i re-assembled the pump and it still didn’t work.

by that time, i was fed up and sent it back to have sunopticsusa repair it. they returned an anything-but-smooth pump that was not mine along with correspondence from somebody in another state.

by that time, i’d purchased an fx pump so i could have something that worked.

Contacted the repair center and they are sending a re-build kit.

the sooner you lose the af pump the fewer hernias you will suffer, AF really screwed us with that thing… 👿

Thanks for the advices. I have been wanting a scuba tank and now I guess I need one. Crap.
