Q:

Air Venturi .25

Has anyone tried the solid core, 61 grain, Air Venturi .25 pellets? Price is a bit steep compared to its competitors. I’ve never seen them listed at PA and there were no reviews… thought I’d ask.

maw,

You might be thinking of the picture on the Barnes Color Slug page. He posted .25 information at the top of the page ahead of the color Raptor stuff. The penetration picture shows a slug having gone through 5 layers of 1/2″ plywood spaced 1/2″ apart. I don’t recall anyone saying that the 9 ring could go through 3 or 4 2×4’s. That would be a lot of wood to go through and take a ton of power, especially as the soft lead slug would be getting bigger and bigger! That said, a really strong Condor (close to the specs shown here http://talonairgun.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3929) would have no problem blasting the 9 ring through one 2×4 at 100 yards. I’ve seen that and the slug buried into a target wall behind the board.

Havent tried them, but they do look a bit like the old Pelletman pellets. I have some of those left over from when he was still in business. They did ok out of the Condor last I tried. No better than the Surefire slugs to be honest.

Just pulling my head out my ass now…. 😆

Hey Jerry isnt there a picture of a 9 ring going thru 3 or 4 2x4s?

That pretty much answers my question Mario, ta! (presume you using 7 ring?)

Mario,

Thanks for clearing that up. Under an inch at 60 yards and getting almost 88 FPE is pretty darn good. I’d be willing to try the slugs based on those numbers…if I didn’t have a source of slugs down stairs!

Hi Jerry

I have a career 3 707, with a few mods on it and can shoot the 61 grain pellets at maximum 805 fps
The pellets that i said earlier that are amazingly accurate with the 707 are the ones from PA and not voltar1 pellets
I do not have any groups to show you as i only shot on paper when i first got them and i wanted to see how they group and to fix zero.
I only tested to 60 yards and i remember the groups i got were just under 1”

Has anyone got any groupings of the six rings?? I’m sick and tired of looking at mine and wondering how they gonna do!! After getting my clipping finally sorted (my inertia no-one elses), the weather is too foul to even think about going out (wind, rain, snow, more wind and rain etc) 😥

I didn’t mean to sound to pissy or sensitive there! 😕 I just didn’t want anyone to think the Surefire slugs were extravegantly priced.

I remember when the piledriver pellets came out and within days there were a bunch of posts on other sites about how great they were. After a while folks who hadn’t been in such a rush to report a great new discovery tried them out and discovered they were not very good. That’s why when we decided to offer a .25 slug we spent a lot of time on the design and testing and then modified that design to get where we are now. The PA slugs look like the first cut by a guy with a swaging press. If you look at Walter’s slugs you can see that they have some design thought applied which resulted in the addition of a drive band so they fit his gun perfectly. The PA slugs are going to work well in something but probably not much and I didn’t see any custom options.

I know, I know, shipping weight over seas determined the price at .30 a shot, I also know they are cheeper than the Air Venturis that is the reasoning behind me saying that people are better off getting yours, something that has proven accuracy and stopping power with a better price.

Mario,

You have a .25 707 and you’re getting good results with the PA Air Venturi pellets? I couldn’t tell from your post if you meant the PA pellets or if you had some of Walter’s pellets when you wrote “those.”

If you are shooting the PA pellets, maybe you can post some groups and velocity data?

Those pellets are amazingly accurate.
I have some and shoot them with my 707 , my Airforce is in .22, i hope this helps you.

These look like they come from the old “Pelletman” dies.

I agree Tef.
They are made with Corbin dies.
For easy loading they work best in a ‘Dual Diameter’ setup. Bore riding front and a driving band to suit the full rifled diameter.
I make mine at 0.251″ bore riding and 0.257″ driving band of about 0.040″ wide.
If made well they are very accurate.
