Q:

airforce products= disappointment 4 me

Been seeing a lot of airforce guns for sale the last couple days, am I missing something? Is there a great new gun that everyone is getting rid of the talon/condor for? I have been disappointed in my condor from day one but with everyone selling I don’t think I will be able to sell for a price anywhere close to what I paid. To spend 600-700 on a gun that has to be worked on to shoot consistently is b/s in my opinion. To spend anymore on an expensive gun doesn’t make any points with the wife either. I guess I’m just not wealthy or patient enough for these guns. Sorry for the rant, I just had to get it out.

😆 Not being snooty, I was trying for sarcastic and was never any good at in anyways.

AF gaps the TH for a snug fit when the breach is back, it appears that to them the TH has no other use… Some guns need some love from the factory and to do it you really need some way of knowing what is going on.

All I was trying to say is that for the price of the rifle a Chrony is pretty darn cheap. And for the overall investment and tuning of a rifle it’s the most insightful tool for the $$…

I’ll tell you what Mike, i’ll send you $35 towards a Chrony if you want to see what is up with your bird…?

i shoot my gun so much that im to the point where i need a compressor to do the job. DAMN pisses me off just thinking about it…. 😡

Send it to me. I have no problem pumping it up with my Tank 😈

I will start with saying that Airforce rifles are not for everyone but I think they are the best value today. You can do so many things with these rifles. For example you can set them up for target shooting at 15-20 ft lbs or 65+ ft lbs for long distance hunting. Yes they take some getting use to but I beleive that they can compete with any rifle accuracy wise.

With the power the Condor is capable of you need to use at least 18g pellets unless you want to turn the power down to slow down the 14g pellets. The 14g pellets are probably breaking the sound barrier so that would make the rifle louder. Even shots well under the sound barrier will still be loud.

As for your tank dumping the air the only reason I can think of is because the pellets is not pushed all the way in the breech.

Your gun is dumping?

There are few reasons for that

valve retainer nut has backed out

PSI gauge is incorrect and not filling high enough

Talon tank on a Condor with hammer weight and PW turned up to high.

If I were you I would fill a little higher a bit at a time. I once had a gauge that read 3000psi and it was only 2500 psi.

Can’t spend 70 bucks on a $600+ purchase…???

On second thought just sell it… I hear a Rem 870 Express shotgun goes for under $300… 🙄

Hey, it just goes to the AF “mod mentality”…. I probably have thrown four hundred bux or more at the used SS I got in the mail more than a year ago.

Why? Because I could. But I’ve never chronied my gun, and I really don’t need to because it’s accurate as hell and works everytime I ask it to.

I can see where a newb might be daunted by all the info-load and dollar spend, and the performance of guns by the modders makes it look like the stock model is inferior.

It may be inferior compared to all the modded-out contraptions we have, but it’s very capably dead-nuts all by itself straight out of the box.

And I’ll give you $100 for your 870. 😉

No reason to be snooty. I appreciate the advice given. I don’t want to buy a chrony because I have never felt the need to check velocity. I never chronied a firearm to make sure it was shooting with advertised power. I now see that to get the most out of an airgun a chrony is a necessity but I’m just a hunter and don’t need it to be perfect just close to it. LOL I originally purchased the gun as a favor to a friend that ordered it and then got in trouble and needed $. I got the gun when ups dropped it off. I didn’t think or research the purchase I just did it, now I have @ 35 pellets through it and was so frustrated I am trying to sell it. I don’t think I can get the 650. I paid out of it so I’m trying to figure it out. I know this gun has great potential I’m just having a hard time finding it. Hoping to get things figured out and bring in some food this season. I think the 9mm kits would make it more of what I’d like but again that costs $.

Invest in a Chrony first, before the pellets.

You can get the rifle to shoot just about anything but the Chrony is essential…

Well, that goes directly to his complaint, in that he’s gotta drop more money to tweak the gun.

If you’re not into mods, then just pick a pellet you’re happy with that works in your gun. JSB Exacts and Kodiaks are two to focus on… and then set your top hat at about .85, give or take a few. Then call it a day and just have fun shooting.

/My two cents, but it has a 200% markup.

I use my airguns to hunt turkey and other small to medium game so my main objective is to sight it in and a 1″ group at 60yrds would probably work for me. I think a shroud and bipod would be a plus for hunting. I have a a 12″ barrel and ss end cap that I haven’t tried yet, didn’t want to lose any fpe. A chrony probably helps but I’d rather spend on a shroud since quiet is what makes air gun hunting enjoyable. All I’m wanting is a powerful accurate hunting rig. I feel I’m a pretty good shooter, I have great results with my discovery but want more power for larger situations.

Yeah, the tophat was open way more ,like @ .210. This is one of the simple things I feel a manufacturer should do. Just have some consistency with a product(made in USA should be a positive thing). I think it’s great to come to a site like this and get help/advice. Now to find a deal on some heavy pellets. I’m sure you all can tell I’m not very wealthy(broke most the time) so everything I buy has to be budgeted for so it’s hard for me to imagine having the things(wok butt, shroud, bipod, laser…) that make these guns enjoyable. Enough of my whining, should be off work early monday (weather) and going to try to sight it in again.

As to it being expensive, that’s probably form your perspective not having been in the PCP realm of things for long.

Check out the FWB if you want super accurate, expect to spend at least $2000, just for the entry level pcp target rifle…

Either way you would still HAVE to get a Chrony…

Get a Chrony (about $70) and spend a little time getting to know you new rifle. The powerband needs to be discovered before they will preform.

For the Condor I would try some heavy accurate pellets and test for the correct velocity.

To make it quiet get a shroud, which is about $100.

For less than $200 and about two hours in time you can get that rifle up and running to your satisfaction.

Adjusting the top hat to .070 should give you a nice shot string you may have just solved your problem.

I just finished setting up a .22 Condor that is getting 33 shots with JSB Jumbo’s before I refill it … still has 2300 psi in the bottle when I do.

I agree they should be more refined from the factory … and some of them are real pieces of work when you get them .. others are real shooters from day one.

Get the bugs out and they are awesome shooting machines 🙂
