Trying to figure you math though. 2800 to 3600 is 800 psi rather than 900.

Not in Arkansas it ain’t!!! Our air is different from yours!

Hoot:

Thank You so much for the review Sir “Hoot”! Really looking forward to this little unit.

Trying to figure you math though. 2800 to 3600 is 800 psi rather than 900. But far better than what Altaros gives for such a low psi input into their unit. I am to say the least, STOKED!!!

SWEET!!! :8:

Sweeeeeet,thanks for the info HOOT!!!
I can’t wait to order mine.

UPDATE:

Small setup footprint. You need two 110v outlets. Blue hose goes from compressor to QD at back of Booster. Black hose out of Altaros unit to fill hose for scuba tank. The 2.6 SCFM/150 psi compressor was not able to provide the Altaros unit with enough pressure to operate at maximum efficiency. It still worked just fine, though slower, but the compressor ran non-stop, and could only keep psi output at 60 psi…way short of the maximum 145 suggested by Altaros! A stronger shop compressor is suggested.

Note the water level in the moisture collector is up to the bottom of the silver liner in the bowel. The Altaros unit has an internal water collector as well and collected even more water prior to compression. I strongly suggest putting a larger, more effective, water collector on the compressor. I was surprised at how much water I collected!!! :

Yet more: Altaros unit operated flawlessly, remained stone cold cool throughout the process…no generated heat that I could detect by touch! I like that..I like that a lot!!! Heat has never been a friend of compression equipment. The unit also has a large water collector inside the unit. It recovered even more than the small unit I put in-line next to the compressor. Both these units are “self draining”, that is when the air pressure drops a spring loaded drain valve opens and water empties automatically. Bear this in mind when you decide where to use the unit!

Final booster result…Altaros, running a constant , but low, 60 psi air input, filled my steel bottle from 2800 psi to 3600 psi in roughly 60 minutes, that’s 900 psi per hour into a 150 cf scuba tank. If I can double the input air pressure, and give the Altaros unit a fighting chance to produce effectively, I anticipate that fill time will go down.

Modifications:
1) There is one small drain hole in bottom of the Altaros box. This is to let water drain out from the box when the unit is shut off, and the internal moisture collector valve automatically opens. Suggestion: I drilled more holes across the bottom back of the box to permit better drainage. Don’t use this unit on a surface that can be damaged by water drainage.

2) I did not put the thin power cord through the small grommet located in the back side of the box. Not necessary. I simply put the plug into the plug-in inside the Altaros unit, and in this manner I can leave it connected when not in use and store the power cord easily inside of the box. Plenty of room inside!

3) The black outlet hose that protrudes out from the front bottom of the box, just hangs there when the unit is not in use. I cut a properly sized “U” shaped opening in the lip of the box, above where the black hose is located, and a bit left of the latch. Now, when not in use, I can easily curl the hose and place it inside the box when the lid closed! This permits the unit to have a very compact storage footprint without the fill hose hanging out.

UPDATE:

Got it running and I have the following impression:

The Altaros unit runs like a finely tuned watch, service has been flawless and fast! I am very impressed.

Caution…my shop compressor is a small Harbor Freight unit 150 psi, BUT the SCFM is only 2.6…which means it has a small compressor pump. The result is the highest constant pressure this little unit can maintain is 60 psi, while providing the air the Altaros unit needs to work. The outcome is a much slower fill! The owner’s manual suggests a maximum of 140 psi input, and at 2.6 SCFM there is not a maximum amount of air flow from the shop compressor to permit the Altaros unit to fill at its maximum potential.

(SCFM = Standard Cubic Feet of air per Minute See here for better explanation: http://www.about-air-compressors.com/SCFM.html )

I need to get a shop compressor that provides a higher SCFM, at a higher psi, to permit the Altaros unit to function at it’s max performance level. As it is, the shop compressor runs non-stop. Using a small capacity SCFM shop compressor will require it to be shut down occasionally to let it cool off.

More later….

Hoot:

More…Strongly recommend putting an inexpensive water collector between the compressor and the outlet hose. I picked one up based on instinct and experience, behold the water collector has removed a 1/4″ level of water from the compressor air before it got to the fill hose! The amount of condensed water is not much, but it is enough to cause problems inside your scuba/fill tank! The Altaros has a “moisture remover” in line prior to the fill hose to the tank. BUT…why stress that component any more than needed? Besides, when it turns color you have to remove it and bake out the moisture of the pellets before continuing to use it again! Harbor Freight unit cost something like $7.00 U.S. and right now it appears to be a very good investment as it is sucking water out of that compressor air!!!

More later….

Altaros has now posted fill times for CFM and PSI for U.S.

I wrote them and they responded almost immediately. Now that’s some service!

Very impressive numbers, when I compare to my old original Shoe Box. I sent them the numbers for my shop compressor, PSI from same, and size of bottle. (88CF). They calculated 600 psi per hour. My Shoe Box gives under 250 for the same time. Woo-Hoo!!!

I e-mailed them for payment instructions. Looking forward to this new adventure! 😉

Marko…

It wouldn’t take a brain surgeon to put the unit in another container!

Hoot:

That’s good to hear that customers have support, and not like nimrodair where you are on your own.
The price is right, actually if everything works it’s very good. I could even get by with the cheap looking toolbox setup.

This email today in my response to Altaros regarding one problem in shipment and a wrong QD connector. The response was received hours after I sent my email…probably due to time differences:

Hi,
we are very sorry for these complications. We will send manometer and right connector on Monday.

Once we heard about shipping issue in Canada we changed box, box is about 6 inch longer with extra filling on each side and box has now 5 layers not 3.

We throw compressor in this new box form height of 5 feet several times and nothing happend to the compressor ( manometer, and setting screw was alright) even when box was damaged from outside.

ESA connector was delivered last week, so all customers from America will get this connector now.
Few customers bought this female quick release which fit on our pin http://m.homedepot.com/p/Husky-High-Flow-Aluminum-Female-Quick-Coupler-and-Plug-Set-036-0138H/205184364 .

Once again sorry about this trouble.
Have a nice day.

With kind regards
Michal Jecny

They listened to customer experiences and took immediate corrective action. I really don’t believe any new customers will have problems, as they have addressed and corrected all early complaints from their first customers. This is just excellent customer service response. I can’t get this good of service from local dealers!!!

Hoot:

Hey guys I’m new here but not necessarily to airgunning. Joined up here for a little shedding of light on the Altaros compressor. First off I got one ordered and shipping took less than a week to get here (Washington state) and it was undamaged. I too was confused on the air input connector but found out it’s a Hi Flow one. Husky sells a kit at Home Depot. Got it setup and has been working great! Has only been working 5.5-6 hrs how I have it setup and I got my Tiger shark tank (71cuft) filled from 0-1900psi so far. So far I’m very happy with it! Seems very well built. It’s very quiet as well. These guys are also top notch when it comes to customer service. I think they got a real game changer here!

Thanks for the up-date Unk! I did notice on the vid that the quick connect on the intake side, (Back of Box) looked Huge compared to what I have.

You picked a fine time to go on a walkabout! Grrrrrr!!! + LOL!!!

I received an email today that the included QD connector may not match up with those used in the U.S. And they provided a website where a replacement part can be purchases. They are offering to send me one if here is a problem connecting with my QD. Since it takes so long for their regular mail to arrive I’ll likely just buy my own or use one off my other equipment. They have been extremely proactive regarding any problems they have been advised of…none of which have pertained to the equipment or its operation.

I’m out of town for a few days so I won’t be able to post any results for a few days. The USPS tracking shows the pump is now at the Toad Suck municipal post office sorting complex awaiting delivery. That’s pretty fast delivery from Poland!!!

I’ll be filling a 150 cf scuba tank from around 2800 psi up to 3600 psi, so you can use that information to guesstimate fill times for your particular type of tank.

So far I can’t complain about anything regarding shipment, service support, or communications with them.

Stay tuned for more details as they take place.

Hoot:

The original Shoe Box pumps apx. 250 lbs of air into the 88 CF bottle in one hour. Tried to figure for the Altaros booster, but I seem to be mathematically challenged. 😛
Kinda wondering how it will compare to the SB and Omega.

Anyone have a clue?
