Q:

Altaros Compressor

Hello,
we would like to take this opportunity to introduce our Altaros compressor for the home bottle filling on high air pressure up to 300bar/4500 psi .
At the same time, we want to answer your questions and ask your opinion on our compressor. We welcome all comments and type of information that would interest you and should be on our web.
Or some technical improvements that you would like on compressor in the future.
Here is few photos:

Shipment update:

Unit was shipped on Sept 16. As of Sept 20 it has arrived in the U.S., cleared Customs, and is now in the hands of the U.S.P.S.

That was FAST and EASY I expect delivery likely sometime this week.

Hoot:

UPDATE: 09/21/16. AM

I just received an email from Alteros advising that a Canadian shipment had arrived damaged from being dropped from a great height and for me to check my delivery carefully for any damage upon delivery. If damaged, to duct tape the package and refuse delivery.

These people are taking their equipment and service quite seriously!!! That’s a very good sign!

One important aspect to this design…it doesn’t have an electric motor!!! It’s all activated by the air pressure coming from the small shop compressor. Valves and such are controlled by a 12 volt solid state device located on top of the piston assembly.

Think about that…no internal electric motor to burn out, over-load, no belts to tighten, fray, or get loose…simpler and fewer moving parts is better, less to go wrong!

Hoot:

Looks interesting for sure.!

quote Altaros:

So with these advantages and disadvantages.
This plastic tool box:
+ cheap
+ is light / cheaper shipping
+ protect compressor in it
+ it has handle so it is easily transferable
– Looks cheap and can discourage customers
This compressor will be most times in garage so it has to work, not look pretty.

:hoot:

Personally, I don’t care if the unit is housed in a Tupperware container! If it works…then it’s worth the money spent, and I save the cost of a fancy container.

Like the man said…I’m not planning to keep this booster on the mantle, it’s going in the garage where it’s function…it’s ONLY function, is to operate properly, reliably, and fill my tank to the desired pressure.

I identify with the compressor booster! My physical appearance isn’t much to look at, but when things stop working, or food needs to be on the table, I’m the only game in town and no one cares what I look like.

Hoot:

Sweet man,keep us posted.:)

Forum Swine…

I have paid for and ordered this unit, and it is now enroute to my U.S. residence. Shipped 9/16/16.

Of interest is whether the shipment from the Czech republic to the U.S. will be free of complication from U.S. Customs and the assorted international shipping entities. Time will tell.

As usual…I will report on these and other important matters upon receipt of the unit.

With marginal regards,

Kindly ‘Ol Uncle Hoot:

Booster looks nice, although I would add Teflon piston seal on top of the high pressure piston. Sliding rod is always more prone to leakage than piston seal. The pressure tries to expand the seal and seals it against the cylinder. The higher the pressure the better the seal.
And all the dead space between the exhaust valve is dropping efficiency by reducing compression ratio nothing much more. Would be more efficient to cool after the valve with a coil.
The plastic box looks dead cheap, add couple of dollars to the casing and it’ll sell better.
But all in all very good looking booster.

Thank you for your comments and your opinion. Personally, I have a similar view on thing like
dodge3500, therefore i also mainly prefer functionality over appearance, but i understand that lot of people don“t share same opinion and of course they are affected by appearance when they are deciding what to buy.
We have tried mainly to ensure sufficient covering especially from the perspective of protection and functionality. At the same time we was watching over final price, so it was not significantly increased for the end customer. Appearance was secondary .

We try to work on your comments and suggestions of others when we will create new variant, which should have adequate cover with visual properties, so that people can choose between two options.

Currently we will have on market only this option for people which look mainly at the ratio price / performance and do not care about appearance too much, like Dodge 3500

So with these advantages and disadvantages.

Once again thanks for your opinion.

For the price I don’t mind the box at all.im all about the function vs cosmetics any day.:)
The price seems right too!!!I planning on ordering one late October or early November.:)

This could possibly be a Shoebox alternative if it performs as advertised. IMO, Altaros isn’t doing themselves any favors by packaging this
product inside of an inexpensive plastic toolbox instead of manufacturing a decent enclosure for it. Judging by the insides, the value of this
compressor is in it’s simplicity it performs as advertised and proves it’s reliable. A major manufacturer with patent rights to the design
could build such a simplistic design at a unit cost of less than $100 if it was manufactured in volume. The the insides look simplistic and the case looks like a Harbor Freight toolbox, it doesn’t say “quality” to an unfamiliar marketplace. It looks like a Rube Goldberg contraption built in someone’s garage. Better packaging would certainly be a step in the right direction. The marketplace in the U.S. is ripe for a moderately priced compressor that is reliable and durable. This unit looks to be significantly faster filling tanks than a Shoebox or an Omega without the heat, and rebuilding issues. It just doesn’t inspire excitement in that tool box enclosure.

Yeah, sent them a email and it really seems to be an affordable option to filling my own tanks.ill probably get me one in the next month or 2.:)

The air supply comes from the first stage compressor. The Altaros unit is boosting the 140 psi input from a shop compressor to 4500 psi in your tank.

Ok so you use an input of 70psi to 140 psi to pump up tanks to 4500 psi or does the compressor require and additional air supply to boost to 4500 psi?
Thanks

dodge3500 :
on compressor is used two-stage separator moisture and multiple filtration . More info about similar stuff can be found on http://altaros-compressor.com/main-page/bassic-info/ .
In Humidity filter is used silica gel with indicator . If beads are dry then they have orange color when they change color to dark green then it does not absorb moisture anymore. In that case you have to dry beads in oven.
More info how long it takes till silica gel turn in dark green and how regenerate them can be found in instruction pdf.

birdman :
This is the booster unit, it amplifies inlet pressure. In this case, it is intended to pressure supplied by workshop compressors in range from 75 to 150 PSI, which is amplified up to 4500ps.
This unit is not driven by electricity ( do not have electric motor), as drive source is used Compressed air from workshop compressor. Thus the only thing necessary for the operation of the booster compressor unit is that it must be connected to a source of compressed air, which most often will supply current workshop compressor.
Better compressor ( filling amount l/min ) will lead to faster filling of your airtank.

Compressors filling speeds and other info on http://altaros-compressor.com/main-page/performance/

Okay , call me stupid . To me a compressor booster unit means that this unit needs to be connected to something else in order
for it to work and is not a sole working unit by itself . If so , what type of other unit must it connected too ?
