Q:

Aluminum magazines for the 25 cal R3M (???)

I am not sure, but I think that I have heard something about the aluminum magazines being replaced by plastic magazines. Although I puchased my Matador R3M Standard 25 cal brand new in July, the manual states that it was actually manufactured on January 6, 2014 and then it says that it states: Date of Storage 1/6/2014. And under that it says: Date of re-storage 1/6/2015. Well, I purchased it in July of 2015 and it came with aluminum magazines.
I am trying to find the cause of poor accuracy. I can shoot a tight, one hole, three shot group at 50 yards but if I shoot an entire magazine, the group will open up to an inch (give or take). This is simply not acceptable. The only adjustment that I have made to the airgun is to turn the hammer spring down to where it shoots 25 grain Exacts at an average of 927 fps. I am three days away from squirrel season. But here is my question: Has everyone who has recently purchased a Matador R3M standard 25 cal also received aluminum magazines??? Could the magazines be distorting my pellet? It is too tight to load a pellet ‘single shot’ style…….or I would start ruling out possible causes of sub-standard accuracy.
It SEEMS that this Matador has the potential to group because it will shoot three shoots touching each other. I have a thirty yard range in the house (no wind) and I will shoot a clip starting at 220 BAR and publish the results. I realize that the 25 cal is harder to shoot…..so I make double-sure that I am holding the gun the very same way each time. In other words, I am doing everything possible to rule out human error. I cleaned the barrel (about 50 shots ago) with ballistol. But for now, I am concerned about the magazines (plastic or aluminum). I appreciate any feedback. My post is probably about as clear as muddy water but I get a little OCD about inaccuracy issues. Thank you. kevin

Thanks MRV…..for this link!!!!! I will order me a few plastic mags in the morning!!! I appreciate it!!!!!!!!

Hi Houlihan!!!!! Great to hear from ya my friend!!!! I have a canting level that I used when I was into Field target. I need to install it onto my Bushnell Legend…….which is the scope that is on my 25 Matador R3M. I appreciate the heads up. I had already forgotten about having that anti-canting level.
It’s great to hear from you Houlihan!!!! And I hope that life is treating you well!!!!!!

Hey there Kevin, Houlihan Here,

Glad to see accuracy back to normal. I too use the Harris bipod on my eddy and helps tremendously. Another necessity to achieve optimal accuracy especial at longer ranges is to use a simple level on the sight rail to prevent canting. Just a suggestion if you haven’t tried it yet. Enjoy your squirrel hunting!

PS. What a beauty of a stock you have there. Take care buddy.

I didn’t mean to cause a doo-doo storm. But I WOULD like to try some plastic mags when available. Can anyone tell me when they will be available?
Back to my accuracy: I went and purchased a Harris Bipod at the advice of a good EDgun owning friend (and member here) and my groups shrank back to their “one ragged hole at 50 yards”. In other words…….it was the nut behind the trigger that was causing accuracy problems. I’m back to loving my Edguns again!!!! I took the Bipod off of the 25 cal and placed it on the 22 cal (both of mine are Standard) and at 70 yards,,,,,,,,it was dime sized goodness. lol I am officially ready for my very first Squirrel season with an EDgun!!!!!! And I have confidence in my weaponry! (and that means alot to me)
Please, when someone hears of a place for plastic mags…….I’ll take a couple….or three……or four. Surely a good CNC operator can turn out a thousand plastic magazines per day. I’ll slip my own o-rings on them. lol
What if a person was to put a slight radius on the edge of each hole in the (aluminum) magazine. Perhaps this could smooth things out a bit.

That is not ED it is some one who has taken over and HiJacked his sign on…………………………….

Why do you think so? Is this :hoot: ?

This actually represents a huge problem, the R3M is not designed to be “smooth”.

What will happen to all those owners that have learned to cycle an “horribly rough cycling gun, sometimes skipping pellets” when they will need a new mag?

Who will pay the reparation when they will rip the bolt off?

Will the mag warranty cover this?

I just got 2 new Aluminum Mags for my .25 from Toshik. I am pretty sure it was from a new shipment outta Russia. There goes the plastic mag theory.

Ah OK :thumb:

This means they stay in stock several years.

Somebody here was thinking they are selling faster than being produced.

Nope. Every gun is prepared for a one year storage. Then it should be restored. This is what is indicated in the user manual. Just :2cents:

Actually could be a gun that had been returned for some kind of issues to be fixed…. :2cents:

I don’t know of anyone who has plastic EDgun magazines. I know Ed talked about making some but every time I asked Tony about them he said “I don’t know I only have aluminum.” Don’t worry about bent skirts, the EDgun LW barrel mostly resizes them anyway and at 30 yards you would’t notice fliers. Before you mess with anything shoot the gun about 1k rounds. I have 2 EDguns and I have talked 4 friends into getting Matadors. That means I have shot 6 EDguns this month alone. The first thing I tell them is leave the damn gun alone. After 500 rounds maybe slightly adjust the HST. The only modification I would recommend is to place an “O” ring behind the HST locking collar. The collar has a tendency to move and then the HST will move.

“O” ring used as a locking washer for the HST locking collar
