Another cf tank on the way.
Will throw the jds reg setup on this one. The shorter tank and reg will be about the same length as the stock tank setup. The reg is set to 2000 psi and should give me right about 30-35 fpe. Perfect for pests and targets plus will be very consistant. Starting at 3000 psi i should get around 80 shots per fill easily. Will have it up and running by next weekend.

so its all set up and the results are in. with a 2000 psi JDS reg, cf bottle filled to 3000 psi, ttqc top hat with no restrictor, 95 gr hammer, pw set at 0/0. I started with the JSB 25.4 gr and got

that equals right at 36 fpe. Just as predicted and wanted.
Then its was time for breakfast. I could shoot that string all day long and its nice to have a fill port and gage on the gun again. Just need to order a talon tunes gage now. the one on the reg is good but not as accurate as the one on my pump. Need to get outside and do the accuracy test but the weather crapped out last night and its windy cold and rainy today.

Tony, Thank you sir. Been tracking it everychance I get. Wife will go out of town on sunday for a week so if I can scam some early days next week may have the reg set up knocked out during the week. This will be for my low power squirrel/gopher slayer. Cant wait to see how quiet it is at that low of power also. Should be quieter than a leaf cracking.

Hopefully I get one tomorrow night. They have been cruising through the yard every night. Now have a pattern for the different yotes. one comes early a few middle of the night then the one with black feet comes through between 1-3 am. Id love to nail that one just cause its different from the rest. Me and my son are moving our shooting position to a small cut out in the hill side. Its in a dark spot in the yard and overlooks all of the avenues of approach and the bait pile. Should be a good spot. will be hanging the camo netting in front of us also. No way for them to get behind us either. Had that happen a couple times where you could hear things moving around in the bushes behind us or to our right.
Weather is supposed to crap out saturday adn sunday with a chance for snow sunday night up in the moountains where I am at.

What would happen if you go up in pressure like 3500 psi or above? Or if you use heavier bullets?
I finally did get my reg setup for .257 working. I got help from a guy on the GTA. Changed all the shims out to different ones.
It is now set at 3090 psi.

This is the first string and haven’t had time to play with it yet. I was going crazy trying to get it to work and took my 440 cf tank down to 3300 psi. All my SCBA tanks were down and desided it was time to fill everything. While I was filling all my tanks I desided the only thing I haven’t done is remove the .030″ of shims after the washers.
Walla. Now it is at 3090 psi. If I want lower I can take the last washer and sand it on a flat surface to lower it..
Right now I’m going to leave it where it is but might bump it up to 3200 psi. Would like to keep it around 20 regged shots with less then 10 fps. Some of the difference is the slugs were not sorted by weight. I weighed around 20 and got from 74.1-74.5
It also shoots 91.5 gr right around 990 fps.
21 ci plenum with 68 ci tank.
Tank is on the way my man….

I have to keep thing really simple so I can understand them, that makes it easy to explain to others. lol Trust me it took alot of tinkering adn talking to people like Dyotat adn Rsterne over on the GTA, and batting numbers and setups back and forth with salt and a few others to get everything right.
For the removal of a regulator, it cannot be done quickly in the field. Best way to go from regulated to unregulated is just have 2 tanks. to install the reg you need to remove the valve, place the reg and adapter set up on the tank the place the valve onto the adapter. I am talking about the JDS regulator. I have no experiance with the alteros regulators.
The regulator refills the air in the chamer in about 2 seconds. It really takes longer to reload the gun and sight back in than the regulator takes to refill the chamber. As the pressure in the tank gets lower it may take a little longer but not much.
If your looking for lower power consistancy regulated guns are the way to go. For my high power tank I would need a large chamber and new regulator for pressures over 3000 psi and I just dont feel like paying for that. Right now.
Almost forgot the frame extendor. The one I blew off the gun was a bills frame extendor. It worked very well for what it cost and really is worth the $50 I think is what I paid for it. I built some baffles for mine out of delrin but using a drill press as a laithe took way too long and too much effort to make them and make sure they were perfectly lined up. They did noticably quiet the gun but slid back and forth in the frame extendor with every shot and that change the poi. The shot that blew it off the gun was also at 3400 psi. It is just not designed to handle that much pressure. it is only held on by the grub screw that holds the very front barrel bushing at the end of the frame. I did get the gun up to the mid 70 fpe with that shroud on it so it can still help with the top end power of a stock gun and anything lower.
The R&L shroud is a beast. For $125 its a great shroud that really quiets the gun down and so far was indestructable. It took tank dumps from 3400 psi with no issue and I had a few. Also had it on the gun up to 93 FPE.
But the pinacle of shoruds is definitly the Talon tunes gen 6. Just watch the videos on my youtube. Its really unbeleivable. Even at 90 fpe the impact is louder than the shot.

onebaddj, did you ever calculate the fpe of the shroud extender that blew off of your gun and what is the brand and model of the night scope you have?
Dyotat is the man when it comes to regulating these guns. He helped me alot on my first reg set up. Volume plays a huge part in regulated guns. The chamber between the valve and the regulator has alot to do with the power that can be generated. The only way to compensate for small chamber volume is to increase the pressure or make a bigger chamber. The chamber basically hold the air between the reg and the valve. When the chamber is emptied the regulator does not immediatly fill it up to maintain a constant 2000 psi. When you pull the trigger it dumps the chamber, the valve closes and it is refilled to the regulated pressure.
You should be a teacher of this stuff, you put that in such easy terms that I could fully understand and envision the mechanics. The question I do have is are most regulators built to allow full pressure/power with a simple and quick adjustment? Also, is adding/removing a regulator on a Condor able to be done in the field or does that depend on the valve modifications?

It loves 2900psi, at least with that ammo ! I see how the regulator allows you to tune for a particular psi, undoubtedly proving useful for consistency different ammo. How does this effect power and if power does suffer is it possible to get very near max pressure but still get the usefulness of steady pressure?
In my head I imagine one problem would be getting the regulator to refill quickly enough and is the most difficult part of finding the sweet spots.
Very nice shot strings salt. That is the biggest reason i am putting the reg on my target/pesting tank. Very consistant velocity equals very consistant accuracy. And the super high shot count will be nice also. I have had my condor set up to hammer yotes for so long i miss target shooting with it. I have a spare tank setup now for low power but you just cant get the same velocity window as you can with a regulator.
I think i just need to pull the trigger on a dedicated yote cannon so i can leave one set for power and one for fun.
