Q:

Another leaking Bug :(

So now i´m a member of the not quite so exclusive Cricket Leakage Club, The CLC. I was just shooting the Bugger to cronograph it since i had no glue about the pellet speed and the Combro handheld-thread got me all excited so i dusted off my Combro and went for it only to discover two things:
One – after some modifications to Imppu HST adjuster (20mm Delrin inner guide and Top Hat, by Dr. Evil) the `Roach shot HOT. The first reading was 298 mp/s with JSB King´s and so the second but the third and fourth shots were down at 254 mp/s and 244 mp/s respectively. BTW – you can definitely hear/see the power difference in pellet impact between +- 300 mp/s and 245-255 mp/s. That´s for sure.
Anyway , i was wondering what the Hell was going on and checked the pressure gauge : 60 Bar. O.K , i filled it upto 200 Bar, shot some shots and winded the speed downto 285 mp/s and kept shooting it down to 150 Bar and was satisfied with it at that time.

Now, just a while ago, after ca. 4 hrs from the shooting session, i took a look at the gun and the gauge now showed 110 Bar and, i quess, sinking. Like a skilled detective i ´ve now come to a conclusion that my Cricket leakes, that Bastard…
Well – i have another reg on the way (with markings from 110B-150B) so i´ll soon dive into things anyway but i think it´s quite irritating nevertheless-especially since there seems to be quite a number of owners with bad original o-rings. It´s no biggie though and once changed to proper rubber there shouldn´t be more problems with leaking seals. Dr. Evil has already changed atleast one o-ring on his Bugger too and, in his words,”” those damned original o-rings are nothing more than small Doughnuts rolled from Play Dough = sub-par POS “”.
I guess i´ll change every single one for quality o-rings made of proper material when i get the gun stripped down. So Ernest – now would be good time to send this humble Finn that o-ring kit of yours… 😀

Anyone with an idea which o-ring it could be ? Or, which one is known to give up the ghost and lead to a dropping pressure in the air tube ?? I know that i need to take the gun into bits to be on the sure side of things but i just may have a o-ring that fits. There was a little spare set delivered with the gun but those are most likely of the same brilliant quality as the ring/the rings that has blown.

I need to say this once more : A .25 cal 25+ gr. pellet travelling at 1000 fps creates quite an impact .. 😯 . I shot one of my 1″ diam ,3/8″ thick spinners at 25 meters and now i don´t have that spinner anymore. It got ripped off the massive wooden do-hickey i had it bolted on with a 4″ wood screw. I probably hit the screw though since the scope was zeroed at a lot lower speed. Not seen the spinner since nevertheless …

The o-rings arrived already. Thanks Ernest !

That’s a photo of my mother-in-law. :10:

No lack of lube here…

I know last winter/early spring they were having some supply issues….

Those “rubber” o-rings are indeed not very compliant rubber. More like soft plastic or something and once deformed they stay that way. An easy fix but a stupid move from the KalibrGun. Would it cost so much more if they used proper o-rings ? No ! And they could actually use 3mm or 4mm hex head screws instead those 3.5mm ones. What´s up with that ??
I´ll change them screws for something proper, get the o-rings all changed and it´ll be as it should´ve come from the factory. I like my Cricket better every day – it kinda grows on you.

Definitely some bad assembly there at the very least – no lube…

Try this way instead…

Well, maybe it does work so you can see your own Pics but isn´t the meaning we could see them too ?? I could see them this morning but not anymore.

Here’s a list of sizes for the .22 I haven’t had any leaks but I’ve replaced some on at various times due to what I thought was wear. I’ve been doing some tuning and I think that adds to extra wear…taking apart and reassembling. Moly lube is very nice. The 3mmX24mm are the ones that get worn out the most as they are the ones on the regulator. I had one that was so deformed I couldn’t put the regulator back! Ernest has a nice kit as well including all the sizes with a nice organizer…I ordered the o-rings from the oringstore.com before he had his kit available.
1.6mm X 2.8 Buna-N 70 O-ring
2mm X 10mm Metric Buna-N 70 O-ring
1.5mm X 17mm Metric Buna-N 70 O-ring
1.5mm X 11mm Metric Buna-N 70 O-ring
1.5mm X 5.5mm Metric Buna-N 70 O-ring
2mm X 4mm Metric Buna-N 70 O-ring
3mm X 24mm Metric Buna-N 70 O-ring
1.5mm X 29mm Metric Buna-N 70 O-ring

Thanks! Ernest has already send me the kit so that part is covered. I couldn´t just sit and do nothing while waiting for the kit- and my tuned reg – to show up so i dove into the Bug. I started by the Gauge end and removed the Gauge assembly. Everything seemed nice there. Then to the valve/reg side and, of course, the valve came out first, Nothing to see there either. Then i tug out the reg and i saw at once what the deal was (and what Ernest already suspected) : The o-ring on the pressure/tube side looked exactly like the one on Doc´s invisible Photo´s : One side was round, the other quadrant. And fraying along the outer edge. There must have been some moisture seepage since one could see two places on the aluminium reg housing there a corrosion had already started. Luckily there´s two of those 24mmx3mm o-rings in the spare part kit but those are of the sub-par OEM quality so eventhough i rebuild everything i´ll change every single o-ring on the gun when i get the kit.
I must say working on the Cricket is ridiculously easy and although i haven´t opened it before the whole ordeal took just 45 min – including the removal/clean-up, re-greasing and remounting of all rings. Of course i cleaned up everything else too while at it.

I also noticed that the perforated disc that´s supposed to be around 3/4 turn in from the point of contact with the valve spring, was totally loose. I corrected that too… 😎
After all this i filled the rifle to 120 Bar to see if it holds the pressure and after three hours it still shows that 120 B so i quess it´s fixed for now. :6:

I uninstalled Tapatalk. My Galaxy Note II screen is plenty big for the regular browser and it doesn’t keep sending me notifications when I shut them off. Tapatalk also has some idiosyncrasies I don’t care for.
