Q:

Are there visable differences between a talon and a condor?

Just bought what was advertised as a condor and went out to shoot it and it wasn’t loud and the pw was turned to its highest setting. I checked the fill pressure and the valve opened at 2800 psi. put 50 shots through it, shooting into my duct seal stop and the pellets were penatrating less than a 2260 with A hot valve. and hardly used any air. If i turn the pw to less than 5 the pellets stick in the barrel. the top hat is out just enough that the breach will just rotate. So the questions are: Without disassembly is there a way to tell which model this is(i.e. serial no. or model no. or physical charactoristics). Do you think a clean and lube will bring it back? or do you think its more serious, such as weak or broken spring.

I recently bought a used SS and I took it totally stripped every thing apart, valve assembly and all. I found that the valve spring retainer was about a thread away from coming off and that more air was passing AROUND the stem than was going through it.

This is not your case, I’m sure. But i recommend that every gun bought from a previous owner that you may not know the total history, particularly an AF rifle, be stripped back to nothing. You just never know what and if someone has done to the gun and if they or the person(s) BEFORE them knew what they were doing. Remember, your dealing with a high pressure device that can hurt you or someone or something else if not operated and maintained correctly.

Just sayin…. Be safe, not sorry.

Sounds like he over filled the tank hammer couldn’t push the tophat all the way in

Not I, came out of the shipping box like that. Every pcp I have bought with the exception of two have been full when received. This includes both new and used. The two that were shipped completly empty are my two DAQs. After shooting it some and then checking how much air I had left I knew I was flirting with valve lock, thats why I was thinking that the hammer spring might have taken a set or was broken. I just put another 30 rounds through it and it sounds like its still increasing in power but havn’t put it over the crony yet. I’m still going to go through the whole thing, replace all o-rings, clean, lube and replace all springs but not until I get a base line on what it likes for a fill pressure and a couple shot strings at different pw settings. Hopefully I get A nice day soon that I don’t already have plans for.

you over filled my friend, or t5here might of been some swag of some sort in there that got blown out… try a 2700 lbs fill with that older style valve.

still check and lube them breach o rings tho 😉

Why are you draining your tank?

To ck your hammer spring/hammer weight and your breech gaskets, you don’t need to drain the tank.

Draining the tank would be only needed if you wanted to tear your valve apart to ck it out..

Well I was going to start dissassembly last night and started to empty the air tank, put two pennies in the adapter spun the bottle on and had a nice steady hiss. About a min and half into this I noticed the hiss was getting louder and speeding up so for the heck of it I put the bottle back on the gun and left the pw set at 5. Now this is the setting that it wouldn’t shoot the pellet out of the barrel before, squeezed the trigger and boooommmm, CRAP I thought to myself, garage only sits 10 feet from my bedroom window where I think my wife is still asleep @ 3:00 a.m. Had to be about three times louder than the previous attempt w/the pw turned all the way up. So now I have to get it over the crony and see if the fps are climbing or falling and recheck fill pressure.
Still going to do a complete clean and lube but this will give me a before and after comparison.

not too sure, but di-electric grease is the same stuff just not food grade, you can get it in little pouches from the auto parts store for like a buck or two… if they don’t know what di-electic is tell them you need that shit you put in the spark plug boots 😉

… and you really should not need a new spring, i’m thinking it’s more your breach o rings are shot… place a single pice of toilet paper over the breach and shoot the gun, if it moves then replace the o rings

First off I’d like to thank all of you that have responded to this post. Your input eliminates alot of trial and error.
anyone know if there is any differance between divers grease and dow cornings 111? With the poor economy I’m just trying to work with what I have on hand.
Also looking for information on the springs just in case I have to wind a new one. I’ve already got quite a selection of stock from when I built my caselman.

You might have a look at this page. I use it as reference to make sure don’t put the barrel in backwards 😯

Diver’s grease found at, of course, a dive shop. If you don’t have a dive shop near by, PM me with your address and I’ll get a little tub ( about the size of a Carmex tub) on its way to you. Should last about 10 clean and rebuilds.
I’ll check and see if I’ve got an extra brass insert. I know I’ve got extra derlin seats and may even have extra spring and retainer if you need ’em. I know I don’t have a main spring.

cerflon… 😎

defiantly don’t use the graphite, and I’m not familiar with the molybdendom disulfide, but a quick google told me I wouldn’t use that either… your better off just cleaning everything and not using lube

I don’t have any dry teflon on hand but I do have A choice between spray graphite and some molybdendom disulfide.

you have the old condor valve, the new ones are a bit better, but the old ones aren’t bad

yep, I would start with a tear down, lube your orings with silicone grease, I use dry teflon on the i/d of the frame were the hammer rides… a little goes a long way so don’t over do it. and I’m willing to bet you need new orings in the breach

size is a 011. I think…(some one please let me know if I’m full of it on the size) and you want 90 durometer … if you can’t find any, then Tony at talon tunes has them

Two holes in the brass. When did they change to slots? and which is better?
