AZ tuned BSA Super Ten
Sent my BSA Super Ten to Allen Zasadny for some work….I can
not Emphasize how quiet this thing is now..Screw on LDC with
end cap to protect threads when not using LDC….Trigger is match grade
1 stage, and the fill adapter mod is a have to have….Cocking bolt
is cool too but everything else over shadows the knob….
Thanks AZ…..

The screw in LDC? Or fill adapter?
How long is the screw in mod? That bolt handle is niiiiiiiiiiiiice!
AZ has been doing this mod for years.. I have never-ever heard of a problem with any of his mod’s. they are very popular on the Rapids.
Still, a quick fill in the valve pre-chamber would be safer I guess.
220 Swift over at Air Gun Advice does a LOT!!!, of the quick fills. And a beautiful job he does too. Pomona air guns also does it. 😉

I think, as far as safety goes, both mods are a non-issue….I don’t
know anyone that does the quick fill in the valve pre-chamber on an
S10 though….I like the quick fill in the valve pre-chamber idea but,
ya take what they make and Allen makes the best I have seen or
heard about….
Good looking Gun!

You’re right harry but he is also screwing with a mans livelyhood in
the process…He had just just made a comment about how I may
have hurt JDSairman’s rep by jumping the gun and blaming the regs
for the poor SD I was getting with the regulated tank setup I
was testing……Kinda like the pot calling the kettle black….I just
wanted to make sure that Allen’s quick fill mod was blemish free and
that everyone knew that Voltars comments (although they
sounded intelligent) were completely and absolutely ignorant….
That’s all…
I would bet my Sti that Voltar meant no harm. I’m sure he was looking out for your safety, and nothing more. That is a beautiful gun BTW. 8)
Well well well…I talked to Mr. Allen Zasadny today about the quick
fill mod on the end of the bottle…Seems he has more experience
with HPA bottles than any of us can imagine….He understands the
metalergy, structure, and physics behind the strength of the bottles…
He guaranties that the bottle is stronger with the quick fill mod
than without….He has done hundreds without a failure….Also, when
he drills the bottles for the mod he has them pressurized to 3,000psi
to prevent shaving from entering the bottle….
Now explain why the bottle doesn’t explode..If that won’t
blow one up then I think it is safe to say that his mod is not an
issue..
Allen knows what he is doing…..
Voltar_1 although I appreciate your concern, your arguments
and warnings have no basis what so ever……
I know there is a first time for everything but, I am going to have to
be the one that tells you Voltar….
YOU’RE WRONG, YOU’RE WRONG, YOU’RE WRONG…
All that being said…Here is a 10 shot group @ 65yds with the S10…

Jeff, the mod being suspect the testing and safety of that mod is really in the hands of AZ.
So you’re not sure if it is safe or not
I KNOW that not doing it is safe and infinitely more safe than doing it
Great you think you are completely safe and of course AZ thinks so as well or he would not build them.
I never stated that I felt completely safe.
(Putting words in my mouth) <—Not a good thing. That’s how women spread rumors…
How is thinking ‘words in your mouth?’ You must think it safe or a) you would not have bought it b) you would not take offense
I would neither use such a mod much less test it as it is a non-starter.
it violates everything I have been taught regarding the safety and maintenance of high pressure vessels. that is where I am coming from and every time someone shows up with another example of the mod something makes my butt pucker.
You are more than welcome to your opinion but, to blatantly say it is unsafe is irresponsible…Have you seen the process?.
Why would I need to see the process? the hole in the tank is the minor diameter of a 5/8″-18 hole so lets be generous it might be 9/16″ max nut size, would mean a 3/8″ tapped hole in the bottle end that takes away the designed strength and reduces it an unknown amount. You cannot make a member stronger by removing material. Again it is up to AZ to prove it safe. Until then it is not.
So if all I have is an opinion at least it is shared by safety professionals that deal with tanks and vessels as well as the manufacturer and regulatory body.
I was looking forward to reading anything from any of these safety professionals.
I’m okay with that. So if your opinion is different that is entirely your choice.
I don’t have an opinion because I have no facts or first hand experience with these bottles….All I have is AZ’s reputation….
Then you better hope the hell he knows more about tanks and materials strengths than the DOT, Catalina Cylinders and the safety training handed out in any industrial setting. We would condemn a tank if it had a 1/8″ deep scratch in it so what makes a hole so much better?
Years back there was a fellow doing very nice fills for Rapids and teh like
the fill goes into the valve body and so no tank mod required and no blister sticking out the front of that tank.
This would be great information if I had a Rapid and you had a name…
Still no help…
Rapid, BSA stil the same issue IIRC it was Dave Gunter. Do a search for Rapid quick fill and something should come up. BTW how long have you been on airgun forums?
I need to temper my enthusiasm for attacking this mod as those that have them become irritated when faced with this information.
Information? There is a big difference between information and opinion…This post is very much lacking information..The irritation is being fuel by the lack of information and the lack of viable solutions to the subject being objected to….Anyone can point out problems and you seem to have a nack for that but it takes an effort beyond typing to find a solution….
Would you rather I sit on the information that is indeed ‘here’ and say nothing? Kinda like if you are heading for a cliff and as far as I know you are going over and so yell and scream for you to stop. Would you rather I let you figure it out on your own or see something and point it out?
Just so you know stuff like this isn’t just about you, there may be others that think that a cool mod when in fact it is still ‘suspect’
Each of us has a role and in this matter I am more than happy enough being the warning critic.
cheers, be safe
[/color

So is it dangerous?????? your choice and AZ’s liability I s’pose
I sure as heck would not consider such a ‘mod’ esp when the bottom fill avoids messing with the bottle.
Try and get that tank hydroed….. recert…..
I am sure that the purpose of your posts are purely in the best interest of my safety and the
safety of others…The purpose is surely not to showcase your
expansive knowlege in the modification and fabrication of HPA
PCP’s
For all you know AZ’s mod might make the tank stronger than
it ever was before…
So, I would like to see the list of facts you have to substantiate
that opinion…
When have you hydrotested AZ’s mod and what were the
results?
Have you hydrotested one of AZ’s modded tanks or are you just
using speculation to accuse AZ of trying to deliberately
hurt someone?
Be very careful…You might get some of that tarnish on yourself….
Opinions I will ask for…Facts are always welcome without invite…
I don’t need to get the tank hydroed so I guess that is a non issue…
People that live in glass houses really, really shouldn’t throw stones
and if you keep picking at a wound, it will never heal….
I think you get my point….
BTW, if you have anything better let me know..I would be interested
in the mods you have come up with and would like to read about
the guns you have done through your years of airgun tuning/smithing…..
They said….TRASH EM….
Drilling that hole makes it a dead tank and should never be used.
Have fun!
Thank you WOK, good memory you gots!!
I got a reply from the DOT and Catalina cylinders about it.
