Steve at WWAG has offered to let me try one of the AEON’s he is selling, I am thinking about a demo on that 10×40-56 , has anyone ever looked through one ?? You would think terrible for $315 but he says it does real well ?? Might be Hawke quality for 2/3 price

Yes – I keep the 32x on 24x for the best clarity and setting for the SR Pro reticle. I only use 32x if I need to see a paper hole real far away. I always tell folks that my $1500 Nightforce isn’t perfectly clear at 32x either although it is a notch above the Hawke. You really need to spend quite a bit to get what we would really like. Take a look at a March for $3000+ and you will see a noticeable improvement. Not as much in the $800-1000 scopes. I have about 35 scopes and about 15 of them are $800 or higher scopes on PBs and two are at $1500+. IMO it takes a lot of $$$ to really get great clarity at high magnifications as tested on a resolution grid (not subjective opinions). Same is true with brightness and using a light meter.

The best Sidewinders are still best bang for the buck IMO at that $500 price point. Before you buy a $1000 scope do I what I did and try them out in a variety of conditions. While there are differences you will have to decide if they are worth double the price. Most of my shooting is outside in decent light and pesting and I have ten PCPs to waste money on. 😯 If I were shooting competition FT like Syn it would be a different ball game and I would streeetch for the best optics I could afford.

I notice my 6-24×56 hawkes start to cloud a bit at 20x plus unless I have good light, Is there a point you would say this occurs on the 8-32×56 version ??? do they stay clean looking with good light at 32x ??

It is not an issue for me as I shoot 20x 90% of the time unless bench resting and I use 24 but add good lighting and it is still great, but I want more magnification.

I just told Donny I may end up with another Hawke SW SR Pro 8-32×56 before this is all over again. 😆 MTS/Falcon/Hawke are all very close on the high end scopes they offer (British owned and run and made in China). Falcon offers the high mag FFPs with good reticles but they are even a bit heavier at over 30 oz. It’s hard for us to beat Hawkes local support. If you like me use high magnification constantly than SFPs probably make more sense than an FFP at high mag all of the time. I like the high-end Vortex Viper FFP for the clarity at 24x but it is $900.

I can tell you I have to give on something so it is going to be weight in my case, I want BIG zoom and side focus so that is going to cause me to get back into this deal again this evening. Secoda: I’d still like to takt to you about your 8-32 hawkes before I study further. I think my scope is going to be bigger than my gun !!!

Very lazy. 😉 I’ll add…

Simmons 6-21 & 6-24 DO HAVE SF !!!!! Read on the list of feat, farther down. Lazy people here … 🙄

That said the Clearidge is a good one. It´s minuses are : Plain MD reticule and it weighs 3 oz more than you´d want it to. That takes us back to them Delta´s once again – made at the same place in Japan (LOW) but with muuuuuuch better reticle and 30x power. Weighs more though … :fishinghole:
You could always consider few extra trips to the friendly local Gym and soon those ounces won´t feel as heavy anymore.

BTW – did you got the package yet ?? It´s about due any day now.

No side focus on the Simmons which is a pain but the Clearidge optics are so good I have to toss that into the consideration list. 🙂 I will update the beginning with good candidates.

What´s 3 oz between friends anyway … 😉

Want to go with less stellar one:

The 6-21 & 6-24 has SW PX. Those weigh nothing and i suspect the same about the quality …
