Q:

Bad Pellet Flight

Need some opinions and help on bad pellet flight. Yesterday before the breeze picked up I was 5 for 5 on Grackles at my neighbors 85yd tree. Every seemed great. I was also shooting my new shroud and LDC from Donny. I was wanting to do a sound comparison between the old and the new so I removed the new shot a single unshrouded, yup loud 😯 . Then shot a couple with my old, not much difference according to my phone app so I abandoned the test. Anyway, I think to unload a chambered pellet I shot it into the open sky in a safe direction and noticed the pellet appearing to be cork screwing, kind of looked like one of those sidewinder missles beining launched. Shot a couple more same flight. Switched to some Kings same there also. Was shooting Benjamin domes. Since then I’ve tried the factory shroud, unlubed pellets of both Kings and Domes and still seeing bad flight. Speed of the Kings are 925 -930 and the Domes right at 895. I’ve check the crown which looks good, checked to make sure the breech O-ring is still there. Cleaned the barrel as well.

When I first got Donny’s shroud and lDC it did take a lot of effort and twisting to get in down on the barrel. I was wondering is maybe the barrel might could have be moved from that.

I should also add that the wind has been blowing at least 10-15 so I haven’t had a good chance to shoot it for groups. I did shoot it some yesterday evening at 60yds and was not getting very good results but there was still a little breeze going.

I had my scope focused at about 70-80yds so that is where I could see the bad flight.

Question, can cross wind cause bad pellet flight other than drift? Could it be an optical illusion. Nope, not too many beers….Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Pissed off rancher?? Hell where I go they BEG you to shoot them. In the old days they would even provide the ammo.

Just joking, The last 22-250 I shot , was a long, Long time ago, shooting prairie dogs all I remember was it was a bolt action and sighted dead on at 200 or so yards, All we could get was head shots , I do not even remember what the make of the gun was, Lots of dead dogs we almost went to jail over, Pissed off rancher.
I do have a salt gun I shoot fly’s with.LOL

Mike what .22-250 are you shooting? I’m shooting a Remington 40X with a Unertal 15X scope with a 2 oz trigger. Fly’s at 100 yards aren’t safe….

Its getting deep in here, I am going to go put my boots on,
My 22-250 shoots so fast the pest is dead before I pull the trigger, Now that’s fast, LOL.

What bad pellet flight?

Seems that .22s are famous for this.

Thats excellent vision Zonk..

Funnily enough… I can tell when its dinner time, wherever i am in the world… Its a gift..!!! .. Lol ..

Mike there’s times when I’m out west shooting P-dogs and the suns just right I’ll see me bullet heading to it’s target. And that’s with a .22-250. I almost always see my .22 pellet in flight. I have 20-10 vision. I can tell if a fly has balls at 100 yards….

Wow, When I pull the trigger I never see the pellet, You guys have super vision, How do you see a pellet traveling at 960 FPS,
Now I will admit I do not always were my glasses, Its not a Colorado thing is it?
Mike

Who said we’re chicken chokers? What’s with your neighbor is she deaf? Couldn’t hear a pellet SMACK right above her head.

Not sure if from all the drinking he does and not being sure of what he is playing with.

Wobble, flashes also but remains on the trajectory most of the time and will often go into the target at an angle or side ways.

The other terms I seen miss used is, POI “shift” and “shifting”.
Shifting; When the POI moves around from one location to another.
POI shift/change: When the POI move to another location and remain there.

You guys need to get your “heads” out of the gutter. I didn’t use it first, it was GKU. It’s them guys up in Ohio that have a bad reputation with the chickens anyway, them long cold winters takes it toll! LOL.

Finally had a calm day so I cleaned the barrel again and work the CHOKE over with a nylon bore brush. Shot it out to 80yds to paper and its shooting great. Not even tempted at shooting one toward a blank sky.

Seems like my tightest groups are from about 220 bar down to about 150bar, I’ll have to double check that finding a couple of times. Probably doesn’t make a lot of sense with a regulator but who knows. Popped another Grackle out of my neighbors tree, walked over to pick it up and the neighbor lady was tending to her garden right underneath the tree :suprisedn: :suprisedn: . She said she never heard the hit..

I’ve heard but not proven he watches porn while shooting. That could explain a lot of cork screwing…..

Cock screwing while shooting can really ruin your accuracy.
