Q:

Barrel cleaning

After how many shots you guys decide it’s time to clean the barrel? Specially the .25cal, I know some of you might say when the gun starts shooting crappy groups, but some of us don’t wait till that happend.

So just to be clear before I order one, the patchworm .243 felts will be a good fit in a .25 cal cricket?

Thanks guys I already have the patch worm kit , Just ordered the 243 Plain felt cleaning buttons for the 25 ,
I have to clean the 25 twice as often as the 22 cal anyway…
Its working the 22 has to be cleaned every 1000 shots and the 25 every 500 shots,,,
I have been using the fishing line , But I am up for trying the patch worm , ( a better mouse trap) I am game…
I tried the 22 patches in the 25 and it really was a no go,,, Have not tried the 243 yet, Hope its better….

Here is is my cleaning setup

here is wire strand

wire strand insert into the barrel and come out at other side

insert rope of bore snake into the loop (apply some ballistol on bore snake)

pull out wire strand with bore snake rope

pull out whole bore snake through the barrel. Do this 5x

at the end insert a piece of white cloth for sure

… for checking if barrel is clean

is clean 🙂

I did that method much easier to myself and shortened the brass weight on the Bore Snake so it can be inserted straight in the bore as it´s meant to.
I remove the brass brush prior using it in an airgun though. I have discovered that a Patchworm is an easier/faster and more efficient tool for cleaning work so i have sidelined the Snake. You need to wash the Snake often or you´ll drag all the shit back into the bore every time you pull it thru.
As said i don´t use the BS (Bore Snake , not Bull Shit 😉 ) anymore.

The great feat the Patcworm has is that there are cal specific cleaning heads and those apply the correct ( ie not too much – not too little ) pressure against the bore. That´s impossible to achieve with loops, hooks and such. Patchworm is hard , if not impossible , to beat as a cleaning device for airgun barrels and even as a field cleaner for powderburners. Enough said !

And NO – i have no commercial interrest in PW / 20/20 Concept 🙂 Just a happy customer who has used the PW for several years with great success.

Just an idea for some of you. What I use is weed wacker line and then I make a small loop at the end with braded ice fishing line. The loop just overlaps the weed wacker line a couple inches and then I just use electrical tape to hold it on. I have been meaning to use shrink wrap instead but the tape has always held up! Works great and I’ve been using this method for years. You can make a few and keep one in your shop as well as shooting bag.

Great cleaning system Octavious!, I just got my patchworm kit just waiting for the ballistol to arrive.

I´m using Ballistol with boresnake. Cleaning every 150 rounds otherwise accuracy suffer. Cricket cal.22

Good to know Octavius, i noticed a POI change in mine too after shooting close to 200 pellets.

I heard wd40 is not good for any gun, specially those that have orings like ours.

I am really happy with Eezox that stuff is incredible. MAC1 swears by WD40, I won’t use it but that’s what he believes is the best. MAC1 knows airguns. I do think however you’ll be really happy with Eezox

I know Tim, i have been in his shop several times, he actually fixed my fill probe for my cricket.
from what i heard WD40 has agents mixed in that will hurt/demaged the orings and seals of any gun, besides it will gum up the moving parts.
