Barrel cleaning, how often
Hi guys, hope everyone is doing well.
Over at a facebook group some guys were saying that they have to clean their Vulcan barrels every 150 to 200 shots otherwise the gun starts loosing its accuracy. Read few same comments regarding Fx barrels at another forum.
Am really wondering if it is just some brand war going on or is there any truth behind it.

you can try to lube your pellets.
or get the barrel out and use jeweller rouge to polish it. it is very messy red poweder/paste

Is it due to the polishing you did to the barrel. Did you use JB Bore paste for it? I could not find the post on it on the forum.
I have shot a tin of 350 from mine and the group at 50 yards was opening up slightly. So cleaned it last friday. It was quite dirty, took 16 wet pulls to get the lead off.
Mine is pretty much clean after a tin. I could go for 2 or 3 tins before I would need a cleaning. Cleaned it Saturday before starting new tin and it was almost squeaky clean. I was amazed. I did find later on was it was shooting 850 so I tuned it up to 890 or so.

Still dead on for 1/2 inch tent stakes at 31 yards. Also within 1 MOTH (Minute Of Turtle Head :biggrinn: ) at 70 yards. Neighbors 300+ population is migrating to my pond.
Maybe I’ll clean it this weekend.
Well, I cleaned the barrel. 5 wet and 4 dry patches. Not very dirty after almost 2000 shots.
when you cant hit a barn door, that’s when you know it is barrel cleaning time.
How much of a change in accuracy would be considered a “drop in accuracy?”
I’m hoping to see if there is an MOA accuracy change that would be a threshold to clean.
After three tins of 500 since last cleaning, my Vulcan still shoots much better than I can hold.
I’d prefer to keep cleaning to a minimum to reduce barrel damage risk.
There are Always bad eggs. I heard if you want a good LW barrel you have to pay the Price. Otherwise it is a lottery.
Looks like I did not have a CZ barrel in my Vulcan .25 because it required cleaning every 50 shots.

I must be doing something wrong. Since the last cleaning I’m on my 4th tin of 500 and at least half way through that. So at least 1700 shots. Oh, and I’ve also shot some piranha (crosman) and predators – so probably more like 1800+.

And that, sir , is just hogwash. “The better the barrel the less cleaning needed” . Come on ..
A good barrel is a tight barrel. A tight barrel needs more frequent cleaning than a loose barrel. That is true regarding any and all firearms from PCP to a Cannon.
My RF rifles, extremely accurate ones too , need a cleaning between series (that´s around 40 shots incl foulers and sighters) if i chase top performance. The same goes for my Tikka CF rifles. Or you know something about Sako, Anschutz, Shilén , Krieger and Tikka barrels that most of the benchresters/longrange/target shooters have somehow missed ??
The same thing goes with PCP´s . Those who need more frequent bore cleaning should be happy – not sad. Just because you had bad experience with that one CZ/Cricket barrel a couple of years ago doesn´t mean the CZ barrels are generally bad – quite the opposite. :angrymob:
That said my Vulcan needs a cleaning every 125-150 shots in order to maintain its top potential. I could probably go 1000 rds between Clean ups if it was used for hunting but i don´t hunt with it.
