Q:

Barrel length

I’m not sure where to post this question, but since I frequent the Bullpup section I thought I would post it here. My question is would a 13 inch LW barrel be just as accurate as an 18 inch LW barrel? I understand the part about loosing some velocity with a shorter barrel, but just wondering if I would loose any accuracy from missing several inches.

Here’s where I’m coming from. I ordered a few of the free FX/LW barrels from AOA [http://www.airgunsofarizona.com/FXBarrelPromo.html]. Just had to check them out, can’t really beat free right? At the time I didn’t realize how short they were until after I pressed the order button. Well, just got them this week and the .22 barrel OD measures .472, so they would fit into a Marauder breech. It would probably be an improvement over the stock marauder .22 barrel given that its an LW barrel. What are your thoughts? When time permits I will probably machine one to replace the stock barrel to see what the result would be, just don’t know when I would get the time to make that happen; too many projects, too little time.

My longest shot on a squirrel with a Predator pellet is 86 yards with the 12″ LW .25 barrel in my Stubby Talon. 😉 It is a tack driver. :4:

I have killed three Doves @ 125 mtrs / 115 mtrs and 110 mtrs with my Edgun ,,,,

and two head shots with my Benjamin @ 110 mtrs two wild birds after each other …. and one head shot @ 97 mtrs with my Edgun same type of wild bird …

Yep, seagul – head shot – 120M lasered – .22 Viking with 10″ barrel. So barrel length really is irrelevant.

Maybe those are the missing lelya barrels ?

IMHO the fact that longer barrels are “mistakenly” considered to be more accurate comes from the days when people was shooting with open sights because certainly a longer “sight line” will give more accuracy.

I agree. I’ve had several barrels the were X inches long and cut down to X inches and were tack drivers…

Barrel length has nothing to do with accuracy. The quality of the barrel is the deciding factor.

Testing is always good. Are you done yet??

Looks like the barrels are choked. I pushed a few pellets through and felt some resistance at the last inch of the barrel. I guess I’ll post my findings when I find some time to fit the barrel and do some shooting/testing.

Is that 13″ barrel choked? I can’t imagine you would lose any accuracy by having a shorter barrel. But like you said you my lose velocity.
