Q:

BB’s "Big" announcement…. What do you think?

The news that was supposed to shock the airgun world, be monumental, etc, etc is that Tom Gaylord is involved in a TV show about airgunning.

Perhaps I’m a bit cynical on it, but who is going to sponsor this show? I’m sure Gamo will be a major sponsor. I suppose this means that we can now see more 200lb pigs being taken with Gamo .177 airguns?

Perhaps all this exposure on how effective big bore airguns are will gain some acknowledgment of the masses…. perhaps too, from the anti-gunners…

Personally, I think the show will air for a short time and then be like a fart in a windstorm and be gone.

I really dont see it as monumental thing that was advertised, but then again… I am not surprised by the hype.

I wish them well in the venture and I hope that if successful, the exposure wont come back and bite us all in the ass….

I hope your wrong too. I hope we’re looking at this as the glass is half empty instead of half full, as it were. I feel some sense of hesitation about drawing attention to our sport too. Like we might come to regret it. I hope I’m proven wrong. Paul please post more often and when are you going to be reviewing the new Crosman PcP?

Airgunners are fooled into thinking that the powder burner hunter will be impressed with bigbore airgun hunting.

a powderburner has been taught that you use 1,000fpe for deer sized game and say 2,000fpe for larger.
They would never consider hunting game with a .22 rimmy at 120fpe and consider that as barely adequate for rabbits let alone coyotes etc.

So from my own experience at the gun range the powderburners still consider an airgun ‘neat’ but that is about it.

I still see this as a grandstanding effort by someone that does not speak for all airgunners and are using a very pleasant looking gal to ‘sell’ the story.

hope I’m wrong……..

Here in Michigan, we have a couple of hunting shows produced in-state, one of which regularly shows deer, birds etc being dropped by whatever weapon is being used. Personally, not what I feel like watching anytime, let alone on Saturday morning when they air.

That said, I don’t think that the anti-gunners will likely latch onto a TV show about airguns by itself and use it as a lever to enforce further gun bans/laws.

However, if enough people watch said show, it’s only a matter of odds and time before some irresponsible or mentally-tweaked individual(s) see the show and decide to buy an airgun… and then use it irresponsibly or illegally.

All you’ll need is a few incidents in order for the news-idiots to define a “trend” and start breathlessly warning of this new “threat”, and THEN you’ll see the anti-gunners pop up and start sniffing around.

Personally, I think the challenge is going to be how to keep the show interesting week after week. I mean, I like air-guns, but air-guns are like hunting knives. In other words, one might look different than another, but they all essentially do the same thing. Developing fresh content after an introductory three or four episodes might be tough.

In any case, good luck on the show, I’ll be looking for it.

If I can get one dad or a single mom to spend more time with their children plinking cans in the back yard and having fun, then it will be a success for me and the team.

For every one of those you’ll get five neo-liberals foaming at the mouth… This show should have come out 8 years ago when the Repubs were solid, now there is a Dem prez and Senate pushing anti-gun legislation like dust brooms after a grain elevator explosion……

Could they have timed it any worse? 😕

Paul,

To tell the truth when I saw the trailer I kept saying ” Paul get out of the way, we wanna see Red Head!”

You shows have always been good. Just keep it up and don’t let Gamo start shooting pigs with .177 on your show 😉

hey folks, I copied this from another forum, but it applies to just about everyone…

Firstly, I have nothing but respect and admiration for the airgunning community, so who better to create a show about them than one of your own!? American Airgunner will be about the lifestyle of airgunning–from the pink Daisy all the way up to the artisans of airguns like Quackenbush and his big bores.

Rest assured that American Airgunner will portray our sport with the dignity and respect it deserves. If I can get one dad or a single mom to spend more time with their children plinking cans in the back yard and having fun, then it will be a success for me and the team.

Every aspect of airgun hunting will come with that same respect and humanity. You will not see twitching squirrels or large game animals shot with inappropriate calibers–YouTube can have all of that they want. It has no place on my show.

There will also be the opportunity for folks from the community to come join us on the show during the season. My co-host Heather Parcells will be learning about airguns side-by-side with the beginners out there, and I know there are many of you who can give invaluable advice to both of us.

Cheers,
Paul Capello

p.s.

WoK, you know i’m a handsome SOB 😉

Too true, our shitty empire got there first, so we were the one who robbed the resorces, and plundered the land. All us Europeans were doing it at the time, it was all the rage you know! Bringing so called Civilisation with us, destroying indiginous polulations, and laying down our twisted morals and behaving like degenerate children let loose in a candy store. Our poor legacy to a land deserving more, not something to be proud of for sure. That land is doing its best, but it’ not quite yet willing to let go of its short past, though it has a poor role model to emulate .Roots are something powerful. 😉

It will probably be as successful as the last domestically published airgun magazine, which is not saying much.
