Q:

Bizill’s Taipan Veteran (Pic HEAVY! Don’t quote first post)

This thread is a work in progress but for now, a chitty video of my nerdy ass…

I have yet to mount my scope and what not so I’ll be updating this thread whenever the heck I feel like it. I don’t have too much to say just yet as it’s new to me. Quality seems very nice, though the finish isn’t top notch, but still nice. I suppose it depends on what one considers top notch. Regardless, it’s nice enough. The cocking lever is smooth and I was pulling on it harder than was necessary, not knowing it would be so fluid. Thank God for this thing called leverage. I like it better than cocking a bolt. Still wish the side lever was further up near the trigger vs in the rear, but I knew what I was getting into. You see, I had my eyes set on the Vulcan, so I made a compromise. I’m thinking that will be one of the only compromises, though.

I love that it’s got the 20moa rail built in. That way I can just use regular scope mounts and not expensive ones with adjustable moa drop. I’ve seen many, to include FX Impact that have fugly lookin’ machined picatinny rails but this Veteran has nice machining. No worries there.

BRB. Stupid ass Windows is forcing a shutdown and restart on me….damn it! K, I’m back, that was quick. Thank God for SSD’s. They make for quick boot times on the ‘ole laptop.

Anyway, the stock isn’t terrible, though now I’m thinking the black completely conceals the woodgrain. I pretty much knew that going in but damn it to hell, if I don’t have to have my black guns. The shaping and working of the stock are nicely done. Even and not lop-sided or anything. I really didn’t know what to expect there. So I’m happy. I will however need to mount a small picatinny rail to the fore guard. That’ll make working on it so much easier since I don’t have a gun vice.

Before I get onto more points I would like to quickly add that I attached my Donny Du Sumo for a quickie shot to test it and by God, I thought my Benjamin P-rod with Rocker1’s LDC was quiet in .22. This Veteran .25 is quieter IMHO stock but with the Sumo is that much more quiet! I really didn’t know what to expect as I thought the Prod was pretty damned quiet. With much more power on tap, AND to be more quiet…well, I’m tickled pink. :4:

Below is just a pic for reference of the Sumo next to my Rocker1 LDC for my Prod.

Of course the Taipan LDC 1/2-20 adapter from TalonTunes to be able to mount the Sumo…

I am waiting for a good shot at a squirrel that’s been causing problems in my yard and porch but keep missing my opportunity. But in preparation for the shot I’ve gotten to fondle the unit a lot. I gotta say, I love the feel of the hand grip and the stock does not interfere at all with cheek weld. My first bullpuppy so I’ll still have to get used to not having a proper cheekpiece but it’s nowhere near as bad as I thought it could be. Anyway, yes, it’s heavy-er the way I have it decked out and I’m not sure yet if I’ll ever attempt to use a sling with it. I’d have to fabricate a way to do so as with most bullpups.

I think part of why I love it are the silence, with and without the Sumo, but obviously best with it, and the decent glass on the scope and yes…that beloved trigger. My Prod I never could shoot as well as I had hoped. But this Veteran…wow. I’m lovin’ it. One simply cannot go wrong with this purchase.

Thanks, I’ll finally be subscribing to his Youtubes, then.

Ernest Rowe has videos on many airguns. His teachings are priceless. He has a .25 Vet now and is going to make videos on it. He has his shooting 54 shots at 875 fps with the 25.4 grainers. He got rid of that spike of fps at the end of the string by lowering reg pressure.

I’ve got some learning to do. I probably would like to boost my fps a bit but high shot count is a plus as well. I’m gonna have to get my learn on and adjust what needs adjusting. My Prod I pretty much left stock as it’s my CQC (combatting pests, lol) airgun and wanted a longer range to learn to tinker on. For the longest time I had planned on a .25 Marauder to learn on, then decided on the Armada and then raised the bar…you know how it works…”I’ll never spend more than $300 on a “bb” gun, I’ll never spend more than $60…” so on and so forth…

quote Bizill:

Did some quickie chrony. I started off at 230 bar and after 50 usable shots @ 38ft-lb energy with 25.39 grain JSB’s, I end up at 145 bar. I may have to up the power or keep it here for shot count. Not sure yet. Have yet to stretch out her legs as I only had 20 yards to play with. Hole-in-hole, obviously at this close range. Weak, I know but I have no land and today was just getting things set up.

Tony had the fps at 956 on his chrony printout so his is off or perhaps mine. Caldwell chrony here.

Your reg set pressure needs to be lowered in my opinion. The .25 Vet come from the factory with the reg set high, like around 150 bar. Perfect for my high power application but too high for yours. This is why your fps rise at the end of the string.

I’m not sure anymore one could so readily call the Taipan ugly. Sure, there are those who still will…but damn, this thing is sexy. Sure, I’ve made it heavy, but being a bullpuppy, it conceals the weight. Before I returned my Benjamin Armada that I had similarly decked out, the thing was so front-heavy that you just knew it could only be used for benchrest duty in all practicality.

I have no idea when I’ll be able to go out anywhere and get out to 100yds which was my purpose from the start but you know I’ll be updating if I do. Yeah, hole-in-hole could be done at my 20 yards with a damn multi-pump bb gun but it doesn’t do it in high style as does my Taipan. I will admit I still daydream about a Vulcan and maybe someday I’ll have both. For a little bit more money I could have purchase the Vulcan instead, but I wanted something that was “newer” yet “tested”. The Veteran fit the “Bill”, aka Bizill. :winkn:

And thank you Cricket, both for the compliment AND more so, the ability to pick out the single picture and not quote my entire post as you just know most would do! :5:

Damn! :8:

Some nice tools there! :8:

And the stock of the Veteran is much more elaborated than what it looks at first glance, shaved off and ergonomically shaped at the right spots (IMHO No clunky or bulky zones)

And yes the Sumo looks Top-Notch! Congrats to Donny! :8:

Nice. Mine looks almost identical (except mine’s 22 cal). Same black stock, same scope, same magpul rail. I did use the nuts that came with the magpul. Got 1 inch black oxide machine screws from local hardware and they just about engaged all threads of nut. I applied some locktight as insurace.

Kid, I’ll be honest, I just wanted an excuse to use my forstner bits I bought awhile back. LOLshitballz!

Yeah, what I like are the options. I just wanted to provide some insight into a few questions that I personally had. I would go the route you went with the longer bolts/screws but I wanted to use what I had on hand. Hell, even wood screws would work just fine, so long as they aren’t too long.

Funny how trends or fads start on the net and how lemmings follow. Yeah, I’m a lemming when it comes to the Athlon. I’ve seen it touted from one forum to the next. But it ticks all the boxes I wanted filled so I’m happy. I guess time will tell the story whether or not I remain happy in my decision. That, and the return policy!

I went with an Athlon Argos BTR 6-24X50 scope with sunshade. That will be mounted on a set of Warne rings, leveled and torqued to proper specs.

The end result…

Trees about 200 yards away, 6X zoom:

16X zoom:

Stock weights approximately 27 ounces.

Time to mount my Magpul 5 slot Picatinny rail to the hand guard. Only 2 bolts hold the stock onto the airgun.

On my particular stock there is about 21mm thickness of wood from the bottom of the hand guard to the inside. There was no way to use the screws and keymod nuts or whatever they’re called so I grabbed some m6 machine screws and drilled my holes from the outside so I wouldn’t rip the edges of the holes. Then I flipped the stock in my drill press and used a forstner bit small/large enough to accommodate the nutdriver I used to tighten the nut on the inside. Those holes I drilled about halfway deep, around 11mm so that the nut had enough thread to be secure.

I’ll see your request and raise you a borescope pic….

And yes, there exists no leak. It’s temperature change. I pumped it up to 255 bar last night, checked it this morn when cold and read 245 bar (no parallax error in my eyeball readings) and when it warmed back up in the house it was back up to 255. Perhaps you think I’m smoking crack, but let me assure you, I am not. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

I tried doing a video of the Sumo with and without it on the Taipan but the app was so tremendously slow that things didn’t register properly. I’d say that ANY test out there using a phone app is not accurate in the least. What I can tell you though is that there is a “crack” sound in stock form. Not loud, but it’s there. The Sumo takes care of that “crack”, and no, not a supersonic crack, just an air turbulence crack of some sort. The Sumo tames all. No I did not get a free Sumo out of this but I wouldn’t complain if one were tossed my way!

quote Bizill:

I pumped up to 255 bar last night about 12 hours ago using my Hill Pump Mk4 and I don’t know if it “settled” due to the heat or if I may have a small leak somewhere. It was down to 245 this morn.

That’s normal.. after few hours temperature of air (in cylinder) drops so pressure drop too.

When you screwed out ” original” silencer, open pellet probe and look to the barrel you can easly see how many grooves barrel have – that’s simple
