Q:

Bobcat shrouded barrel question???

So I bought a used 30 Bobcat to see what the hype is all about with these smooth twist guns. Of course I bought used well I’m just not so sure they are worth $2000 + for a gun but a %30 discount helps with that…

Any who it is much lighter than it looks as people have stated before and surprisingly not that loud as would expect from a 30 caliber and compared to 9mm Evanix its whisper quite. I have not tested its accuracy yet only because those damn dove tail rails. I have some adapters to convert my weaver/picatinny gear over just have not had the time during this busy time of year.

With the question: How sturdy is FX shrouded barrel? Meaning does it have movement/flex when you apply some pressure on it with comparison to the edgun or Cricket? Both my edgun and cricket have some flex to it but the FX seems to have more.

( Now folks I need some good information first then you can give me grief for the ugly baluga purchase  )

Thats why i bought a used one with 300 or less pellets through it at %30 less then AOA prices.

FX do make well build and accurate Airguns. No question about that. That said you US guys get butt fucked , and that pretty bad. The FX , as a brand , has been hyped to upteenth level over there mainly by the US importer.

First of all : You guys get everything much cheaper over there due the very low VAT (compared to us Europeans) and because of the shear volume of sales. Everything there costs roughly 60-65% of what it costs here. Despite this fact you pay horrendous money for FX products since you consider them as high-end AG´s – which they are not.

They wouldn´t sell one FX over here was it priced at that level compared to real high-end AG´s since it´s considered as a “working mans” or “every mans” gun – a gun that it really is. No more, no less.

FX BobCat costs 9500 SEK here in Sweden and that includes the 25% Swedish sales tax (VAT) . That´s under 1400 USD with that 25% sales tax.
You pay 50% more – with your much lower sales tax. I´d never, ever buy one for that money , heck i would never , ever pay a penny for any FX since i don´t like them.

The Uncle has , for once , some valid points on his above rant. If i was the one to build a Bob Cat i´d do it from the scratch and not build it around the Royal breech/block. All that plumbing and other crap destroy the whole concept of a Bull Pup adding weight etc. And what the hell has that flimsy plastic mag (that, as an ultimate insult also sticks far above and on the side of the breech ) to do on a quality Bull Pup – or any AG for that matter ?? …

Dear Sand Bag,

Quite the opposite…I’m on Codeine laced cough medicine.

The FX, like a military Hummer, can do it’s job quite well, and still look like a miniature whale…relatively speaking.

We are spoiled by the ability of the Eastern rite personnel to appreciate a shapely curve and thin hip. It’s cold in Sweden, and I’m guessing they like their guns, and women, a bit on the hefty side!!! So it seems.

This begs the question as to what features on a bullpup everyone would want?

For me:

a) Short (30″ tops)
b) Light (5 lbs max)
3) Pack a serious punch in the small calibers (less than 35 fpe just doesn’t do it for me)
IV) Adjustable power without dis-assembly (user accessible reg and hst screws via port-holes)
Five) Mid-gun bolt/lever, changeable to left or right by user
6) Silent…as in over-sized moderator/shrouds as standard equipment, how hard would THAT be???
4+3) Over-sized air cylinder, 400 cc, not a bottle, just thicker than a standard tube, preferably in carbon/glass fiber)
8) Multi-shot, bottom insertion, flat, spring-loaded clip, instead of magazines with all their assorted push-pull parts, that do the exact same work as a spring pushing up. These things could be really tiny, ballpoint pen sized, and hold a LOT of pellets. And, it could have a spring compression knob to push the spring down while dropping in the pellets!
I) A carbon fiber-skeleton stock that weighs less than a pound

But, no one asked me if the above were feasible (it is), and FX only asked Ted what he thought. That’s why it’s his dream gun, or close to it. One man can speak only for himself, not the entire hobby population. He did the best he could, and it did improve, but so much more is possible. (see above)

FX would have been, would be, wise to run a forum survey asking what the multitudes desire in shape, and mechanical considerations. But, they didn’t and their market isn’t thriving as well as it could, had they discovered what “universal” features most appeal to the masses. There’s a lot of wheels in this hobby that haven’t yet been invented!

Hoot:

quote Hoot:

FX is not a company to go cheap on that barrel/breech attachment, as it would kill accuracy and that’s a market changer. Subsequently, the shroud is extremely unlikely to have any movement dysfunction.

It’s a quality gun….enjoy it. It’s built to take a beating, shoots so accurate, they’ll think your’re cheatin’.

Dear Hoot are you off your Meds again? That’s the nicest thing you’ve ever written about anything.

I have a .22 BC. I’ve had NO issue with anything moving. I sometimes carry my BC by it’s scope as it’s easier to pickup. Have had no problems at all.
