I was just on a driving a Yamaha Majesty 400 and really like it. Too heavy for carrying camping like my Honda PCX 150 but nice and smooth on the interstate. Harleys have improved – a bit – I guess – but still too loud and heavy and unresponsive. They used to leak all over – eventually back in the 70s and 80s. 😆 I spent a week on a Harley one day. My butt was numb from the Sportster seat. It’s how Harley gets everyone to upgrade. My buddy worked at our local Harley dealership after retiring for years so I bug him constantly. He owns GM products as well. 😆
This is light and nimble like a cat. Smooth and quick up to about 65 mph. Outruns his Harleys to 40. 286 lbs. My PCX forum is loaded with owners whose Harleys are parked in the garage most of the time now. 😛 The real problems with Harleys are their owners. (like Subaru’s – my daughter has one)
You just can’t have too many toys. 😯
harleys always leak unless they have a belt drive. calculated seepage is what they call it. all the way untill abut the mid 90’s most of them leaked, the really notorious leakers are panhead engines, especially the late 40’s to late 50’s. a lot of the cases were claimed as being faulty and were recalled because the case halves would leak.
i do have to agree, most factory harley seats SUCK as testament to my tailbone and arse hurting after under a hour on the back of the fatboy. the heritage is nice and comfy so is the triglide though (triglide feels like a lounge chair and ive fallen asleep on the back of it a few times). as for them not being nimble, it all depends on the rider and their personal skill level, a 1200 sportster is going to be less nimble then a 883 or a 800 ironhead. if your lucky you can find a 1100 sportster which was a factory original race engine placed inside of the limited run cafe racer chasis harley did in the late 80’s i believe, in which will give a 1000 ninja a run for its money all day long.
most factory harleys these days are rather quiet in comparison to the pre 97 models before they were mandated to baffle everything and silence them down. in 2002 i believe they began mandating every harley be equipped with some sort of catalytic converter to meet epa in california, which in turn causes the air cooled v-twin to run excessively hot because of the added back pressure.
volume shouldnt be an issue, remember as a rider myself loud bright colored clothing can still be invisible to the oblivious idiot driver and loud pipes do infact save lives. you have a 60% better chance of being seen if you can be heard, or rather the bike can be heard from more then 50 feet inside of a car with the windows rolled up, loud yes. but excessive? no way. keep that little bit of information in mind next time somebody happens to cut you off on a road.
my family is bike poor, and ive been riding since before i could drive.
