Bought a ProChrono Digital today…Perplexed????
I bought a Prochrono digital today… Not having much luck. Pumped about 40 shots through it and only got about 5 readings??? I was in my garage and tried playing with lighting… just wasn’t having any luck. got my TSS .22 to read 3 shots 780, 784, 785 so I tried my Webley Tempest 308, 314, 304….. I thought for sure that both my guns would push a pellet faster than that???
Surprised how light and Chinsy that Prochrono felt, I have taken dumps that weighed more then that… I think the box was heavier then the Chrono itself

Thats a pretty sweet offer Skydiver, but I am to proud to take you up on it. I will mess with this thing and see whats up with it and if I can’t figure it out, I will return it.

Tell you what, I’ll play Godfather here and make you an offer you can’t refuse.
Box that thing up and send it back. I’ll let you borrow my PACT as long as you need to test it, then after you see how nice it is compared to the others, you’ll end up buying one yourself. All I ask is that you replace the printer paper roll if it needs it and send it back to me.
Mine has all the computer software, but I’ve never felt the need for it, since I use the printer to record all my data. All the new models have the cable included, plus goodies they didnt have when I bought mine a few years ago. I’m the original computer captain caveman, so I do things the old fashioned way.

I am gonna mess with it some more this weekend. I wasn’t using florescent lights, although I have a couple in my garage. I tried lighting it with a hanging bulb and and my dewalt work light… sure hope it is user error because right now I am not to happy with my new purchase 😥 😥

No, seriously, there is a steep learning curve. Take some time and reread the instructions. What may not have seemed important usually is. I only have experience with the Alpha Shooting Chrony and it was one problem after another for some time until I began to understand what it needed.

Harry, don’t shoot it. It’s got to be a combination of setup problems.
Just a guess, but I would put my money on Skydivers # 3.

There are several common problems with chronographs that I’d look at and see if you get consistant readings.
1. Do you have fresh batteries of the EXACT type specified by the company that built it? A lot of these will only work properly with NiCad batteries, etc.
2. Are your projectiles actually going through the skyscreens and over the detection device properly? Some units, especially the IR units have an actual detection area much smaller than the actual window provided for you to shoot through.
3. Lighting is critical for proper readings, especially in the lower priced models. Some will not work indoors at all because they were designed for outdoor use in diffused sunlight.
perhaps a Shooting Chrony would have been better 🙂

I have that chrony… it didn’t work in my garage until I lit it with a 700W work light on the floor reflecting of a piece of card above the crony and trap. You need light!
Outdoors on a cloudy day it had no problem with a 22 rimfire. On a sunny day the sky screens did the job.
I use plain old Alkaline 9V batteries.
