Q:

breech improvement?

im sure it has popped up a couple of times, but in our never ending quest for efficiency, has anybody considered cutting an extra o ring slot in both ends of the breech slide, doubling the sealing potential of the breech(theoretically), at the compromise of a perhaps slightly stickier action? this to me seems to be a weak spot in the AF design. if it has been done, somebody please chime in with their findings.

Keep in mind that 2 O rings give 2 times more friction, so the valve stem CAN stay longer open, give more power/ of less shots, with a lot of useless “slow” blast when the pellet already is out of the barrel.

I orded some the other day useing the link in the free section so when they come (probly wont do now ive said this) if any uk members would like a pair or two let me know and al post them out. Al update this on a new thread on arival.

Sorry I sold my rifle and gave them all to the buyer since I had no need for them.

All I did was call grainger (one in cranberry twp) placed my order then picked them up the next day. I think I bought 400-500 hundred yes that many for like 10 bucks.

What I was gonna do was put them in the free section like a pay it forward type deal. Send 200 to a member then have each person keep sending them on to the next till they were all used up. Never got around to it.

I ended up giving away probably 100 or so.

So if the gentleman that bought my rifle wants to make some friends this would be a good way to get to help some talon brothers out.

I got my 90 duro orings from a forum member here a few years ago. I do not have extra, but I am pretty sure Tony has them. They are tighter then the stock orings. That is where the polishing comes into the picture to make a nice smooth tight fit.

yes, back of barrel is like a mirror. and i happen to have a tube of super lube in my box, never used it on the breach, though

If the two sealing the tophat and barrel are working right then yes there us no need to add more but adding one more at the barrel side might just help keep the noise down,all in theory but I think I will give leupy an email to see if he could fit one to the tophat side where it seats against the breach.
Would like to give the flat orings ago so if I get no joy with normal ones al post a thread on it:)

Adam if any ones experimented on this a dare say its you.
Can I ask have you stuck to the standard size oring groove in the breach or do you go bigger.
Also could I ask if you would be happy to ship the ones you use out. I ask as they realy are hard to find due to the imperial sizes, in metric I can get what ever I need but so far im not happy with what I can get even in imperial.

Moneyshot, have you polished the barrel as yet? Makes the seal and action very smooth. I got some stuff off ebay last week called super lube and this is working well in the cold.

If you polish the barrel and use a properly fitted 90 duro oring it wont leak.

ok, so how about i refer to it as more of a fail safe. i find it hard to believe that the AF breechslides are perfectly airtight, and a second o ring is almost certain to stop some air, although i agree the difference may be negligible, i am a member of the TAG, and we are inherently nitpicks. you genuinely believe that no potential benefit could be derived? cause i do value your opinion highly,i just am not sure bout this one. 😕

i guess thats true to an extent, but its primarily the transfer of the hammer inertia through the breech that opens the valve, not the motion of the breech itself. i have major problems with my breech sticking in cold temps, but according to my chrony, nothing had changed.

On the top hat end you are fine using better sealing. On the barrel side you still can but have to remember that the breach has to slide over it freely when struck by the hammer.
