Q:

Bullpups and side-scopes

Hi Guys,

it’s a long time now that I’m fancying a weird idea and I would like to know if anybody has tried this before.

Considering the very particular shape of a BP, the way to hold and to aim…..

Did anybody ever try to mount the scope laterally instead of on top of the gun?

I think that mounting the scope laterally, let’s say between 60 and 90 degrees from the top, could result in a more natural way of aiming.

You guys that have the tools and the knowledge (WingM, Ride, Ernest, etc, etc,) to make this particular rail/mounts/attachment, did you ever experiment with something like this?

Maybe it’s completely wrong  but I really have the feeling that it could work out to a better aiming and shooting of a BP.

It would be cheaper and easier to install a camera with tilt view finder so you can see from different angles.

or you can make something to fit one of these..http://www.amazon.com/Opteka-Professional-1X-2-5X-Viewfinder-Olympus/dp/B0017HQN6A

it may work.

It could be done but will need to find someone to custom make the correct mounts for the right scope vertical centerline for your gun and eye position. I do think it would create a host of technical problems trying to shoot beyond 30 yards or so accurately.

Similar to this open AR-15 side mounted sights, but in a scope form.

Hi Demp,

thank you very much, every day I learn something more πŸ˜€

But I have to say that those damn BPs in .30 and soon in .45 and .50 ressemble more and more to bazookas and rocket launchers

The problem will be pellet trajectory will be to side of scope vertical centerline.
You could zero scope to interact crosshairs at a certain distance but all other POI will be to one side and then other of vertical zero.
Side scope works fine for bazooka, rocket launcher etc where mass damage close to point of impact is sufficient.

Hi Humanoid Ville πŸ˜€ ,

I know it sounds weird but just for fun try it out just by holding the scope aside instead of on top and you will see.

No neck stretching and bending anymore πŸ˜€

Or maybe I’m just Quasimodo of Notre Dame

How the hell are you build man ?? Your head sits on the left/right shoulder ? Damn Humanoid – let us HumanΒ΄s (most here actually are) shoot and aim the way God intented.
