Casted and chronyed for my 25 condor
First time out with new spring . Still have to play with things and balance my 4 tanks . But I am happy with this begining . Marvin
30.5 grain bulets

51 grain bullets

All Replies
The 30.5 grain bullets do not like to be under 900 fps. weather it be 20 yards or 100 . But keep them over 900 fps and they are as accurate . That is why I have the rifle set up to shoot this hard . I don’t know why they need to go so fast but I tried all types of combinations as I said before and this is how it worked out . Throw in some wind and the 51 grainiers win .Marvin
Marvin,
Do the 30.5 grain bullets shoot as accurately as the 51 grains, at 100 yards?
Marvin,
I understand completely. If you ever have the time for a few extra…I would love to buy them (50 gr.) to try them out.
The Barnes (Jerry’s) slugs are great hunting slugs…they are a bit heavier and I only wish I could some day get my condor pushing them just a tad bit faster for longer range accuracy.
I think a 50 gr or so slug might be the ideal weight for the power my condor is making…but I do see some further modding in it’s future to bring the power levels up a bit more. Thanks.
Joe
I do have a .251 swag die for a corbin s press that I would sell . If some one wants it . I sold my press and still have the die . Does conicals or 3/4 e R.N .Flat sold base or hollow base . If interested I would list it on the sell section . Marvin

Marvin,
Yeah I have mine lead also at the local range. I always used the rimfire slugs for cores for my jacketed bullets, what was it Forest Gump said, you never know what your going to get. I got some zink in one batch and ruined it all.
No, I just wondered if you were buying lead or scrounging.
I never used the hardness tester, probably should have, I was too interested in buying other stuff.
Only cast 25’s that I am aware of that are being sold are Mr Hollowpoints, which don’t seem t work well in our guns and Jerry’s slugs which are considered gold by those that use them.
Have a nice day,

I balanced my 3 other tanks out to closely match the first tank . I did not have to go through the T.H setting or P.W. this time . Ended up with tank 1 and 4 at 3100 psi and 2 and 3 at 3000 psi and left well enough alone at this point . Marvin

It is not a matter of selfish . I at this point do not have the time to cast for others . I can hardly keep my own supply going at this time . But if I get ahead of the game I will let you know . I am not for sure but Walt may have bought the same mold as well . And I thought that there was a caster already hear to supply the needs of heavy 25 bullets As well as mister hollow points 25 bullets .
Now the alloyed I use is much like what you used . God only knows at this point . I mine lead at the range I shot at . Melt it down . Run every ingot through the bhn tester and separate every level of bhn I get . For the most part . I have over a ton of this that is separated . Some is 8, 10 12, 15, 18 BHN Then I bought about 350 pounds of sheet plumbers lead for 15 cents a pound which is 5 bhn . Next I bought about about 150 pounds of new old stock B.P bullets and melted them down and separated the ingots . Again 8,10, 12, 18 bhn. Then I cleaned out the indoor rim fire bullet trap and got 220 pounds of what I have just started melting down . Which appears to be about 8 bhn .
No I do not believe in a secret formula bullet alloyed . I do what thousands of casters have done for a hundred years . Use what you have that is cheap and works .
And no not all of my A.R. like the same bhn of lead . But I sure do have a variety to use . If you believe you need to know the exact alloy mixed then that is your opinion and you have a right to have it . It just is not my opinion and I have a right to have it as well . Marvin
Didn’t mean to sound disbelieving, but I suppose my post could have been taken that way. What I meant was no Condor since yours has shot consitent moa @ 100 sooooooooooooooo you are obviously good at what you do and you have—through time, patience, money, and skill—come up with a “holy grail” of a heavy bullet for the .25. Many here, casters and non casters alike have been striving for an accurate “heavy” bullet for the .25 LW. If you don’t want to share with the rest of the class that is your prerogative…but that would be selfish as what you are on to might prove to be good for the many. I understand that no two barrels like the same chow…but you won’t know unless you try. I sure would love to try one in my AAA condor as I have not achieved an MOA group @ 100 with it yet, close, but not MOA or SUB MOA.
Powderburner,
Amen to sizing too much, but if you have to the Lee dies work about as good as any I have tried.
Like I have said before, when I sold all my casting stuff, I had over 30 molds, I cast from the time I was 22 until I was 56 years old.
And now I am just about to try it again.
Melloroadman,
I had a Sharps Borschardt, with a 30 inch Krieger barrel in 45/100. Shooting 10 shot groups at 200 yards with 83 grains of Swiss black powder, standing with crossticks on a railing and the butt suported, it would shoot the first three into a cloverleaf at 200 yards. As powder fouling increased, and of course using a blowtube between shots and SPG lube, the 10 shots would be into 3 to 3.5 inches.
We always shot 10 shot groups in that sport, it gave a better standard to compare with others.
So yes I can believe you get 1 inch groups, but not all the time, because after all we are human.
For handguns, I always used wheelweights, worked fine until they tweaked the alloy, but I still used them. If I used them in a centerfire rilfe, I tempered them by dropping them onto a sponge in a 5 gallon bucket of water.
The WW did not work for black powder cartridge, so then at Steve Garvey’s from SPG Lube and Blackpowder Cartridge magazine’s advice, I bought my alloy, 20-1 and 30-1, from Dave Gullo of Buffalo Arms, in Sandpoint Idaho, nice man I ran into him by accident at a cannon shoot while a tourist in Idaho, but had always wanted to meet him, he invited me shooting, now that guy has some nice Blackpowder guns.
But specifically what do you use for alloy, I am not interested your hardness specs, but what is your alloy?

Oh absolutely.! When i first bought the condor .22 , i had a hell of a learning curve. Had Rws pellets and it was shooting 3/4” at 25 yards.I thought well this thing is supposed to do this at 75 yards??
And if i gave up without a fight i might have sold it like allot of others have done. but i learned allot with the condor, the rws pellets dont like over 800 fps for the most part and the gun was shooting over 1000 fps from the factory , I love a challange and that is the condor , if you want to play around with it. 🙂
I have achieved 3/4” at 100 yards with allot of work ,
I have cast since the 80’s and have thought about trying with the condor, but the smallest caliber that i cast for is 7mm.
I thought it might be fun to try and cast for .22 , i have a .222 in a T C Contender also that i have wanted to cast for and a rifle in .222 , but other than ordering a custom mold i am stuck with sizeing down from a .225 mold. And in my experience sizeing over .100 or so is not in the best interest of accuracy, so i would think that the results would not be what i am after.
Any way looks like you have got yours ducks in a row it looks like , and had a bunch of fun doing it i bet.
I cast for my 909, 201, JH.32, Gargoyle, .308 Corsair and my .357 Corsair . The Condor started out as a .177 about 3 years ago . Been a 25 for about a year now . And it was a pain to get to perform as it does . Fun but a pain at the same time . I shoot at a gun range and there were times that I just had to let some one else shoot it as well .And when their groups did what mine did it helped me to keep it together and go on . Bottom line it gives me something to do and you can sure learn a lot if you can keep focused on having fun while you learn . Marvin
Ok , i can see needing some alloy, nice!!
sounds like you really have a nice grip on it. what else do you cast for.
How long have you been playing with the condor
I am sorry you do not believe me . I am a home caster and cast only for my self . I shoot 300-500 shoots a week and do not have time to cast for others . Be sides as stated I have spent a lot of time getting these bullets to work in my rifle . As any caster can tell you every rifle is different and what works in one may not work in another . There for if it will help you to see that I am truthful in this matter you can come shoot my rifle with my bullets with me and be able to truthfully state that the bullets will perform as stated in this rifle . This is one of the reasons it is hard for anyone to sell bullets on a forum .So few people understand that it takes time and effort to get the accuracy that every one wants . Few will take the time to resize their bullets to fit their rifle . They expect the caster to do it all and charge only Penney’s for their time . I shot 1000 s of shoots to get this dialed in not just a few hundred . Let me know if you want to set up a time to give it a try . I shoot Monday , Wednesday , and Fridays . Marvin
Really? I don’t think any condor or any pellet/slug shoots “consitent” MOA @ 100 yards. Will you sell sample packs for us to try?

Some one asked to see pictures of the bullets after they were run through the barrel . I do not have the soft lead bullets any more . But here is a picture of the 12 bhn after flight . Note that there is no shearing to the base of the bullet .Marvin
