CO2? Pluses and minuses???
OK, looking into Talon and considering CO2.
To me, advantages seam to be:
1) WAY less expensive (tanks are WAY cheap and can be refilled for $5- at the local paintball shop).
2) Quieter
3) TONS more shots per cannister – I was told that I can get 1000 shots off of a 12 oz. CO2 tank. Which sounds amazing. Is this accurate???
I don’t care about velocity since I will just be using it for plinking and close target shooting.
Also would love a suggestion for an aftermarket shoulder stock sleeve attachment to tighten/attach onto the tank to make it more comfortable.
What kind of velocities can I expect with a .22 18 inch barrel from CO2?
Of course I can always upgrade latter to compressed air since the same paint shop also fills tanks to 3000psi for only $5.00 …

I cronyed some today, on my 25, at 85 degrees, with 24.85 grn. pellets, the article is posted in condor section.
I picked up a new Airforce CO2 adapter for $50. I read where sawtime stopped by Mac1 in Gardena, CA to buy stuff. Since I work within 25 miles, I drove over and got some stuff including a 12 oz. tank with shut-off valve installed.
CO2 really makes this thing a different animal and lots of fun. It is very quiet and hits pretty hard from a 12″ TalonSS set at PW6. Even better, you get about 700 shots from one $3 fill.

Adjusting the top hat out tends to increase valve dweel (it stays open a little longer). Smacking the valve with the spring tension set up higher does pretty much the same thing.
On the co2 versions I’ve tried, there is a point were increasing the spring tension doesn’t really increase vel. Adjusting the top hat can just make that happen with more or less spring tension. They will get LOUDER, but if you’ve a chronograph, will notice they don’t get faster…the “extra” co2 is just squirting out after the fact.

Usually leave the bottle attached to the adaptor. Woth checking (by weight) to see if it loses co2 over time. Co2 leaking out over time is most likely due to a bad o-ring on the co2 bottle, but the valve itself can be at fault (less common).
An “on/off” in line just:
1. Increases the length of the tank
2. Provides twice as many seals/places for co2 to leak.
DAMN IT!!!!! I’m going to have to avoid all posts by ROC I end up staring till my eyes bleed.
Right now I’m enjoying the use of my 12oz Co2 tank. I was plinking out throught my patio door out to about 42 yards. From where I was shooting prone in my rec room to the backyard fence I measured 25yards and then to the tree just the other side of my fence I’m ranging about 42yards in total distance.
My set up:
– Stock Condor with 18″ barrel and home made frame extender.
– 12oz Co2 tank
– .22 Crosman Premier HP @ 14.3grs
– room temperature
– tophat ??
– PW @ 13/1
I averaged 650fps using a chrony. Tried adjusting the tophat but I don’t think it makes a difference in FPS. The temp is what increases or decreses the FPS.
Lots of fun and quiet.
1. You can remove it if you want, and it might be a good idea… again, sometimes the CO2 adapters can get a little leaky. You don’t hear it leaking, but the next time you go to shoot the tank’s empty. Happened to me once.
2. No moisture that I’ve seen, but I use a couple of black foam beer can coozys to insulate the tank. They give a better cheek rest and make the gun look a little better too.
3. From what I understand, there’s little or no benefit to tophat adjustments when running CO2.
I ordered my first Condor in co2 , and Im waiting for it to be delivered.
But I question , after Im done shooting , do I have to remove the co2 bottle ? or can you leave it on till it needs to be changed??
Another question is does co2 ever leave behind water or liquid from being cold or frosty ? is it something I would have to check after shooting?
does the airforce book explain the ajustments of the tophat?

No. It has been said if you shoot too rapidly, you will freeze up the gun, but I haven’t experienced that, even with a frame extender. I don’t shoot Co2 below 70degrees F.
Is Co2 messy? Does it make the gun need a cleaning in anyway?

Buzzcat’s post reminded me. I use the Talon SS 24″ gun at family and friends events I hold at our house. This lets a lot of inexperienced users shoot it. I have seen 3 tank dump like events where the shooters were faced with a Co2 smoking breech. Since I hang around to supervise, I jumped in and flipped the breech forward. The bottom line was in each instance they did not properly seat the pellet and it was stuck there.
I started my AF experience with CO2. I’ve since crossed over to HPA, but I won’t get rid of my adapter and tanks… it’s fun shooting with CO2.
Pluses and minuses are thus:
Pluses:
Hundreds of shots from a 12 oz tank.
Only $3 to fill a 12 oz tank at the local sports shop
Minuses:
The colder it gets outside, the worse CO2 works. It gets a little wonky below 60 degrees ambient.
The AF adapter is less than bombproof, many have reported tank dumps and overall failure.
You’ll have to beg Wok to whip up one of his “strap-on” Wokbutts. 😆
In between the plus and the minus?
It’s a great way to shoot a lot, especially if you’re just doing target/plinking… although it packs enough wallop to hunt the small critters.
IMHO, a 12oz tank is closest to the OEM HPA tank, and provides the best cheek weld. Slide a couple of foam “coozy” beer can holders on the tank to keep the cold steel off your face and provide a good line of sight as well.
Stick with the good quality lower weight pellets… CPs, Exacts, etc. Keep it in the 14gr to 16gr range and you should be happiest. Predators work well if you can hold over a hair at 30 yds.
It’s a great way to shoot an AF gun.

Has anyone ever invented a heated tank for CO2?
I’ve often thought about wrapping some of those self-adhesive “foot warmer” cloth things around a capsule or tank. You can buy them at Big 5 Sporting Goods or other camping/ sports stores.
My vision is of a cover for a tank that works like an electric blanket or heated mittens. A 9 volt batter could keep the tank at 90= degrees for a couple hours.
Maybe I’ll spin this off as a thread.
