Carsonratsniper, that was funny ! But for real I know how coyotes are . I shot a few coyotes while on tree stand with my bow during deer hunting season so I know they are very skittish! You never know what you may come across while hunting if you do see anything . I know they are there you can hear them yelping in the woods when they are about to start there hunting . It is kind of Erie . Hopefully my remote electronic western rivers nite stalker game caller will help out . There are many distress calls of animals that you can use to bring in that weary coyote . With my caller I can hook up to it attachments of animals that you are using in distress . Definitely I will position my caller away from me so all the attention will be at caller not me where I will be 30 yards in opposite direction of the caller . I will take a head shot on the coyote for simple reason of instant kill . I shot a coyote one year with a .22 cal rim fire CB Long by CCI . These .22 bullets fly about 750 fps but let me tell you it dropped that coyote instantly when it was shot in the head at 20 yards . Naturally I will be using my condor SS .25 cal . More than enough power and I would feel more than comfortable on a 75 yard shot to the head of the coyote . I would not attempt a body shot to heart or lungs on coyote for simple reason of it not being an instant kill . I have shot numerous deer with a bow that I double lung shot or shot through the heart to see them run 30 to 100 yards or even more ! Thank you for input and hopefully I will come across some coyotes this weekend .

I would have your buddy dress up like a coyote and sprinkle yote in heat scent all over his tail.
When things start to get bumpy for him the coyote will be too distracted to notice you about to make a 30 yard shot! 🙂

Seriously, I would treat it like rimfire hunting. For a quick, clean kill take a head shot.
My next pick is the neck to drive into the spinal cord.
A body shot into the vitals WILL penetrate and kill it, but its going to run off somewhere and die later.

I’ve had a coyote hit with my 204 Ruger and a 32 grain ballistic tip right in the chest run off and avoid me for the better part of an hour. They’re super tough varmints.

Keep your range to that which you can hit a golf ball 100% of the time and you’ll do fine.

If you’re mouth calling, set up 35 yards away from whoever is doing the calling that set.
If you have a digital remote caller, set it up with a moving decoy about 40 yards away.

I’m sure you can cleanly take one from much farther than 40 yards, but YOU decide what’s ethical and fair to the animal for a quick humane kill.

Have fun! I would like to see pictures in the hunting section.

Sounds like Fun. 😀
