CP Differences between dies
Hello all,
I use Crossman Premiers for plinking on lower power and today, I just got my second box of them. My first box was die #7 and there is a pretty good sized chunk of extra lead in each one of the pellets’ hollow part of the skirts, off to the side. This new box, die #1, doesn’t have that little extra piece. They seem a lot more uniform too. Anyone else notice this / have CP’s in other dies?

Jim you gota good point, I never look at it that way π―
Not really. The lead in those batteries is recycled unless someone (the mechanic, not the granola car owner) is ignorant enough to pay to have it dumped rather than sell it for a good price.

Just think, the more Toyota Prius’ that sell the less lead available and the more that will be needed to replace the entire battery in 8 years. I think it will be too expensive to buy 400lbs of batteries full of lead than a few bullets…

soon as i heard crosman was raiseing prices i ordered a good supply and glad i did. this price increase has affected center fire ammo also. ive heard that california has banned all lead ammo even rim fire. that should keep the price of ammo, pellets shot etc at a premium. the gun grabbers are not going to take your guns, just make it to expensive to shoot!!!!!!!!. kingpin
Crossman Premiums used to be the must have pellet over here for F.T. but virtually everyone stopped using them due to the terrible quality issues about 5 years ago. The best pellets to use now are J.S.B.βs and Webley Mosquitoβs (depending on which rifle) but the J.S.B.βs have doubled in price and the Mosquitoβs are as rare as rocking horse shit.
Didn’t know that!
On their eBay ads there’s a “offer a quanity pricing and a combined shipping but you must email us for this pricing.Do not bid or buy it now” thing… I guess it’s almost the same from buying from their website, isn’t it? Maybe just a bit more because of eBay fees…
Since I’m from Brazil I didn’t care… shipping would be higher anyway, so I contacted D&R through eBay…
In the past 2 years I bought 3 times from them, never had a problem. Last time, boght 4 boxes of CP (die #7).
If you’re going to buy more than one box, go directly to their website and get better shipping rates. A little more per box ($4.88) but the cheaper rates make up for it.
D&R Sports on eBay still got them for $14.11…

Pilgrim, I doubt Iraq has anything to do with the costs of lead. China, on the other hand, does. They’re consuming materials at an astronomical rate, driving up prices on everything from consumer goods to scrap metal. China is the largest lead-producing country in the world, and have voluntarily slowed export to make more of their native lead available for their explosive growth. Lead priced doubled in 2007. Coupled with the largest lead mine in Australia ceasing production temporarily, lead was the best performing commodity OF ALL commodities last year.
I’m new to this airgunning world but have been a powder-burner guy for a long while. At age 11, i got a Lee shotgun reloading press, and had to buy my consumables. If memory serves, a 25 pound bag of shot cost around 8 bux. I was at Bass Pro today to pick ups some more Predators and shot was 65 to 75 bux a bag. I was amazed.
Another example: I take scrap from our plant to the salvage yard several times a week. There’s a sign at the cashier’s office that reads: Please Do Not Load Your Aluminum Cans With Lead. We Pay $.50/pound for Lead and only $.35 for Cans. Last year, lead hit an all-time high of over $2900 per ton. Think about it: a ton of lead’s not that much lead. No wonder all the battery joints are paying as much as $10 locally for used car batteries.
But things are looking to change. A quick search on the net revealed that prices have dropped significantly this month, and they’re expected to drop precipitously for the rest of the year. In fact, the financial talking heads are worried about the lead market crashing. China’s opening up exports a bit, and a consortium of mine opperators are working to bring the Magellan mine back online in Australia. I say, crash baby crash!
I can’t speak for our European brothers, but consider all the above reasons for lead’s high price, then compound it by the week value of the dollar. Can any of us recall a day when our dollar was as anemic as it is today? I can’t. So toward that end, lead, gold, diamonds, gasoline, etc haven’t neccessarily gotten more expensive, it just takes more dollars to satisfy the sellers in other countries. It’s frustrating, and not apt to change soon. But I do hold out hope that the Treasury Departments consolodation of regulatory powers will let them curtail bad practices, like the home-loan crisis, before they have a chance to adversely affect the economy as a whole.
Wow, i totally rambled.
I’m sure the millions of rounds shot every year in Iraq has a lot to do with it. Pellets prices are starting to go the way that firearm ammo prices already have. Shortage = higher prices.
Prices are going up on this side of the pond as well.
Last time I ordered, H&N Barracuda Match (regular Barracudas are your Kodiaks I think, Match means selected for closer tolerances in weight and size) were 4.95 a tin, now they’re up to 6.95, euros ofcourse π
Got a couple of boxes of CPs as well, I hope they don’t have those blobs, they could get a little too heavy for my HW97k
Well, I have the 4 boxes I bought for 14.95 ( I have shot about 2/3’s of one box, and 4 that Crosman sent me to replace the bad ones. I am set for a while on them, if I can shoot them in my Condor that will be great. I have had an order for JSB’s in for a while, I hope they will honor the price that was in effect when I placed the order.
Anything that is being imported is going to be going up because of the slide of the Dollar. I wonder whats up with CP’s?
Bastards.
I have 5 boxes and I to should have bought more. π
Man what an investment. Should have bought more CP’s at $15 I am glad I have 5 boxes now…
Bastards.

Several governments have placed orders with american ammunition manufacturers for a million + rounds of ammo, each. This alone has driven lead availability down, and subsequently prices, way up. I have been told that lead is now considered a precious metal.
