cricket shroud disassembly??

Nooooo – say it isnยดt so ! Whoยดd ever do such overtramp on the Gun law and go for Full Power without a FAC ? ๐ฏ
As u no from the shout box on the bullpup forum not many stick to it
what good are they then??
Yeah 16 joules here mate 12ftl unless u put it on fire arms cert then any power is allowed ๐
Don’t get me started. I can throw a rock harder than that. And compound bows have no limits and are completely free to sell. But at least we are better off than those poor germans. We have 10 Joules limit = 7.4 fpe, Germany have 7.5 Joules = 5.6 fpe!
I think my sling shot gives me more fpe that that…..

Thanks for the appreciation, I hope it’s of use for the community. ๐ I don’t know about the brave part, you need a permit for silencers here in Sweden and I didn’t want to risk any trouble so I had to get them baffles out. Cost me a couple of dings on the end cap, but I’ll touch that up with some sand paper and black spray paint. At 7 fpe my Cricket is still pretty quiet even with the baffles removed. Louder than before, sure, but not loud enough to be an annoyance.
Good call. I’m not very familiar with that kind of power in air guns. 7 fpe limit over here… ๐
Great info
As far as I can tell, the shroud end piece is glued with epoxy, not sealed with loctite. Even the baffles are glued. There are no threads on the end piece, it’s just glued. Glued! With epoxy! :angrymob:
There were some marks on the baffles, but I can’t tell if these were signs of clipping or marks from when I’ve cleaned the barrel using a cleaning rod with the shroud still in place. The baffles are in aluminum and very frail. I strongly recommend to remove the shroud from the barrel every time you clean the barrel, otherwise there is grave risk that you dent the baffles and then you could start to get clipping if you didn’t have it before. There are five baffles in total. (Only four in my picture, one is still inside)
Also there was lead dust on the baffles. I have only put some 1000-1200 pellets through mine, but there was already quite a lot of it. The dust, I assume, will keep building with every pellet fired. I don’t know what will happen when enough dust has accumulated inside the shroud, if it will come off in chunks or if it will ever become a problem and start interfering with the pellet. While the shroud itself is not really serviceable, since it is all metal you can PROBABLY spray it with break cleaner or something and give it a good rinse. Try at your OWN RISK!
For someone wanting a more quiet shroud, it would probably be a good idea to replace the aluminum baffles with washers, cloth and hair rolls along the design of Weihrauch silencers etc. This original Cricket design is better for regular firearms rather than air rifles.
The washer and hair culler desighn will blow to bits on full power crickets 32 ftlb will turn a hw silencer dust in side let alone a .25 the crickets desighn is perfect full power air rifles
You’re a brave soul! Good info thanks.

OK, I have disassembled it.

Thanks a lot Mr Ernest

Thanks for good info. :thumb:
Is it enough to remove the front end to remove the baffles?
The cricket shroud uses very strong loctite on fwd and aft ends. The fwd end is aluminum and reusable. The aft end is plastic and the heat needed to soften the loctite melts the end cap. I have threaded my aft tube and made an aluminum end cap and been trying some venting baffles for sound reduction.

Hi Guys,
please stop to criticize the gun laws, they are there for your safety :ugeekn:
Haven’t you heard about all those hold ups with 6 fpe airguns?
Apparently also Al Capone had one of those and it’s there where he got into troubles.
Laws are there for our safety and it’s for this reason why you see a lot of people driving drunk and texting on their smartphone while driving their 35000 Joules cars.
