Cricket Victims-GRAPHIC
These are over a 2 week period. There’s an undeveloped lot across the street from my house…so before they build more houses I get a few gratifying ground squirrel kills. I posted on the Yellow and someone asked if I eat them??? Dunno maybe in other countries they can be eaten but I won’t eat any! I’m using JSB’s 15.89grain through my .22 Cricket

IĀ“ve said this before : You Yanks are nuts ! šÆ
Sir Ville….I’m Sorry but I was hungry.
Mike, you are exactly right! Just get past the idea that they are squirrels and they will taste great. Something real funny is I have laying chickens and my mother will not eat fresh eggs from me because she knows that they came from my chickens! LOL
Here you go. Buy your next Matador on Mepps! :4:
Sir Ville asked
How does a Squirrel taste anyway ? Like Chicken ??
How they taste all depends if one gets passed the idea that they are tree rats with respect to tree squirrels.
My description of how they taste, rabbit being sweeter than chicken and squirrel (grey squirrel) being sweeter than rabbit, so I would chime in as saying like chicken only better. Keep in mind texture is different than chicken in that itās not as meaty and stringer. That being said how one fixes it also make a difference. Young and tender, females not showing signs of having tits for nursing and males not having their nuts, testicles, developed will be more tender and can be fried like chicken otherwise I recommend stewing like in crockpot until tender and falling off bone. Red wine weather on the side or in crockpot also makes for a good recipe.
This is Gray squirrel, and it taste very good. This was cooked up this last weekend. I would say it’s a cross between chicken wings and pork. Everyone I have made this for thought it was pretty damn good! In fact most would think it taste like seasoned chicken wings.

Funny you should ask! I don’t consider myself a Redneck but some might disagree… lol

I canĀ“t help but feel sorry for those little fellows. Here they (tree Squirrels) are far between and not considered as a pest – at all. We had one on our range , quite a character by the way , and he was there often collecting pine cones from the ground minding his own business while i was doing shooting. Sometimes i had to wait for him to get out of the line of sight and he wasnĀ“t scared at all when i rolled around in my wheelchair.
Au contraire – he looked pissed when i collected some of those cones to use as a targets and just stared at me with evil eye from few feet distance. I felt safe though since i was armed …
Some bastard must have shot him since one day he just disappeared…
I ate a few (tree squirrels) in high school and younger but consider them all rats with bushy tails now. I given dozens of them to my next door neighbor every few months and he loves them. You can sell the tails to Mepps lures for some cash.
