Crosman AR15 PCP upper

I see some true potential here. Instead of .177 for 10 meter, they should have gone .22 or .25 and designed it for power. It’s also a bit on the fugly side IMHO. Another product designed by committee I imagine. Interesting though.

The majority of the 22lr versions are semi-auto, but again, most of us would have to drive to a range to fire one for daily practice. The advantage of a PCP air rifle over any firearm is the ability to practice at a reduced scale target in your own basement or garage vs. driving back and forth to the range every day.
Although Service Rifle Competition is a semi-auto game, it isnt as rapid fire as most would think. Accuracy is still far more important than speed even in the rapid fire stages and a falling block single shot could be competitive given a skilled operator. All of the fundamentals remain the same; shooting position and sling tension, sight picture, sight alignment, breathing, heartbeat, trigger squeeze, follow through, etc.
These new PCP uppers are far from perfect, but they are a step in the right direction. In my experience, a PCP air rifle with a good barrel, good pellets and a good trigger will be more accurate than any airsoft replica. Remember, we are talking about reduced ranges, but also reduced scale targets. That bullesye is ityy bitty when you shrink things down that far, and accuracy is very important.
IMHO I really think the trigger is the key attraction of this conversion. If you have a Service Rifle with one of the new trigger pacs tuned just the way you like it, and it’s legal under the rules, you simply swap out uppers, rather than an entirely new rifle that may have a totally different trigger.
BTW, I started out in my youth with target rimfires, moved to Service Rifle, then to High Power. In searching for a cheap way to practice for High Power, I bought a Smallbore Target rimfire, then a PCP. Funny how thigs have gone full circle and then some. 😆
Just seems weird to me to train for semi auto rifle techniques with a bolt action action just to fire pellets at 10 yards.
I think making firing noises with a magazine full of empty cases (in order to simulate reloading the mag in the rifle and charging the action) would be just as effective or perhaps more effective since you don’t have to reload a pellet after each shot (a process that really doesn’t occur but once every magazine). I mean unless your looking to practice a jammed round cycle after each shot. 😆
Even an airsoft AR replica is the same weight and will do semi auto and is decently accurate at 10 yards… Has a magazine, charging handle, same sight picture, probably half the price and you don’t have to take down the real thing to set up the conversion…
Are the 22lr conversions semi auto?
For training, even a ciener conversion leaves the fwd assist out and it is just a bolt assy, and mag swap. For a air system to work exactly like a AR the price would be painful (I know syn) and very complex.
AFIK there is no replacement for “real” trigger time.
I did try to find a manual or vid of the MAR117 to verify operation but no luck.

But does the Crosman AR version require you cycle the bolt for each shot? 😯 Or is it semi-auto?
For training i’d want a semi so it’s more like the real thing, if it’s simply for target practice get the $80 one that is about the same size and has the same sight picture… Or go airsoft and save hundreds over the $800…

I’m just a bit weary of high dollar first run Crosman equipment, their track record is pretty much shit right now because of the Rogue. If your getting the MRod in 25 your getting a good accurate shooting powerhouse for a good deal. In 22, you may not get a shooter, in 17 it’s ok but not great. I think Crosman makes a great product in the $300-$400 range for rifles…

Someone needs to tell the poor guy he picked up an ultra low end bb gun. I think he would be happier with the AG AR upper or a 22lr conversion kit upper.
He does raise some interesting and excellent points about functioning for training. I wonder if all the things he wanted to function like the real thing do on the Crosman AG AR upper?

This conversion is only going to appeal to serious Service Rifle Match shooters. To be competitive in any discipline, you need to practice daily, and this provides a way to do this at a reduced cost. Instead of dry firing, a serious competitor can use this conversion to gain valuable practice with the same rifle he would use in actual competition.
If you added up the cost for a working individual to compete in these types of Matches, it would be into the thousands every year. Driving back and forth to a range, range fee’s or membership, ammo (or reloading components), targets, etc. can total more than what Mamma allows most guys to spend.
One of these conversions, a tin of pellets and a safe backstop allows practice in the basement of most houses without disturbing the neighbors. It builds the same fundamental skills that the full size rifle does at a fraction of the cost.

yeah AGs can easily kill a Human…just a year or more back a Monsoon was used to murder an undercover narcotics cop in New Zealand which led to the regulation of PCPs there
