Custom EdGun Scope Rail
Well I tried to find someone who would make me a replacement scope rail for my R3 Matador but had no luck.
After some careful measurements and calculations I have found the following.
The official drop is 30MOA or 0.5 degrees. This leaves me at full scope knob down 2 mil dots high at 30 yards. As most of you know I am shooting a 177 caliber standard and intend on using it for field target.
The dovetail is a tight 11mm or 0.375″. It is actually 10.53mm across the top of the male dovetail at the receiver.
So my plan is to use one of these:

And cut a dovetail on the bottom similar to the EdGun OEM rail. In order to get 15MOA I need to shim one end of the rail exactly 1/16″ over it’s 12″ of length when I cut the dovetail sections. I used cad to determine all this information instead of maths (much more easier). 😆
To cut the dovetail I will use this:

Apart from having a longer rail I will pretty much copy the existing cut outs as they are on the original rail. This will make the clamping controls squeeze the center together and I won’t have to make other parts for clamping.
I was going to make the whole rail until I found the blank rail set up.
I ordered two just in case I mess up the first one…

All this over being able to switch the scope to another rifle?
How about a different scope for the other rifle.
Or different rings and swap between the rings.
Well shit. Got the rails today. The end mill came in too.
They ARE NOT what is in the photo. They are thin, too thin. I could use them to bolt onto a custom made dovetail mount I guess. 😡
Going to call this company tomorrow and get a thicker rail that will work.

Your drop at the same distance as mine is 13″. About 3″ more then what I get at the same distance.
At 33 yards that would center the poi in my Nikko at full down elevation adjustment. With your pellet and power the poi at 33 yards is about 1″ lower. So the rail would work for me as well if I was shooting in the WFTF division… 😉

And you used the elevation knob to get there, right?
Where is your elevation knob in terms of overall travel?

I don’t dial, no idea about clicks.
We also have small targets (15mm from 8-25 and 25mm from 8-35) and we don’t wind the power up to make it easy :5:
10.34 grain 177 at just under 900fps is standard practice for PCP Open Class (max 20ft-lb) in the USA.
40mm target?! Surely nobody ever misses in your meets…
We often get 1/2″ (13mm) kz’s at 10-35 yards and on occasion 3/8″ (9.5mm) kz’s from 10-28 yards.

Where in the adjustment range of your scope are you? Hawke didn’t have any adjustment range information on their website. From your CG data it looks like you have 1/2 MOA clicks, how may clicks per revolution and how many revolutions do you get?
BTW I’ve just punched my data through chairgun….
on a 40mm standard FT target I don’t even have to range find from 10 yards to 47. I will always be in the kill. (won’t be the middle but you don’t get points for that)
If you can tell the difference between 35 yard and ‘long’ you really barely have to range find.
2 mildots is 55, 60 i’d guess is 2.5
I don’t know why you would run a .177 so high, surely you get pellets spiraling at that velocity?
What is your total pellet drop over 60 yards…

I have an Edgun Matador R3 in .177 shooting 8.4 grain pellets at 770 (sub 12ftlbs)
The rail is no problem for me.
I shoot a 3-12×44 hawke SR6, I shoot mainly HFT but also shoot FT with it, I keep within 5 shots of the AA grade shooters in my region on most comps, they have £2800 80x march scopes (along with leups/sightrons/nightforces/smits) and I range by eye on 9 mag…

I ran the numbers and my drop at 60 yards is under 10″…:shock:
Well I shoot a bunch of sparrows out of a dead tree by my house right at 105 yards from my bench rest and 50 power wouldn’t be too much (I sight for them with a 60 power spotting scope). I wonder what the BC of the JSB .30 44 gr pellet is? A new power BP .30 build might be in the making if I can nab one of those 30s. 🙂 Sure be a dandy xmas present if I survive the wife’s beating. Might need a bit more noise moderation though. That will be a Cricket, a Matador, and 30 something with scopes all in the same year. 😯
I stand corrected – they just added the JSB .30 pellet to Chairgun and it is listed as 47 grains with a BC of .042. That is pretty cool. Should do very well in wind and at long range. Ed was right!!!
It’s pretty easy to get it to focus down to 10 yards or their custom shop will do if for a small fee. 😉
I have become spoiled by using a 50x scope for competitions, for hunting a 32x is probably better. Sometimes it can be tough to find the target zoomed all the way in. 😉
I really like Sightron scopes and wish I could afford more of them. I know that model only focuses down to 40 feet. Is that an issue?

There were a bunch of us down at LD’s for the Temeclua challenge earlier in the year and someone I have shot a bunch of matches with was using a S&B to estimate ranges from 600-3000 yards. The owner of the scope have an equally as nice range finder to confirm the ranging and I was feeding the guy behind the scope dimensions for the building features he was ranging.
For a 600 yard estimation he was under 2% off and closer to around 10% at 2600 yards. Not bad for a calculator, some guesses for window/door sizes and a mildot reticle!
I think this is the best scope i’ll ever buy unless I somehow get into 2000-3000 yard PB competitions. 😆

I can make exactly what I want and with the tools I can make other things if necessary. I could buy a thousand things and never find that kind of satisfaction. :8:
