Dialing back my Cricket .22
Just got my skeleton .22 yesterday. It’s currently shooting around 31fpe out of the box. I’d like to get it down to just under 20 for local field target. Can anyone point me towards the information I need to get it down that far. I doubt just reducing hammer spring tension on the stock spring is going to get me that far.
Thanks in advance.

How much are you charging for them? And can you clarify the Half valve spring tension” comment above. I’m a little unclear what you’re referring to. Thanks Ernest.
Ernest, why don’t you start making your pressure regulator tester and sell them on WWAG?
I have 3 in stock
on a standard .22 reg pressure to max speed limit using the stock spring with no mods with 1/2 turn valve spring tension:
shooting 18.1g
(on or about)
133 to 138b=915fps
126 to 132b=900fps
115 to 125b=885fps
To have control of the guessing game, CW to lower in less then 1/4 turn, fill to 150B adjust hst to get max speed before going off the reg, repeat process till the max speed is within your liking.
I recently messed with the regulator. A 1/2 CW turn drop the fps from 880 to 760. Does that mean that every 1/2 turn is 120 psi? Probably not. I don’t think there’s a linear relationship, so don’t think 1/4 turn is 60psi. Yes it’s a guessing game.

If memory serves 1/4 turn is about 20 bar and that seemed about right when i turned my own reg down. I turned it 5/8 turn CW and it seems to be at 70 bar now, guesstimating from chrono and gauge readings. You might want to tighten the valve spring 1/4 turn too.
Half turn will drop it a lot.
You may want to only go 1/8 turn and try it …. Just make sure you measure across end to end of the reg with a caliper so u can put it back where it is incase all else fails. or mark it in some way
Okay, so I’ve gone and watched Ernest’s videos on the regulator and think I can tackle it, but one question stick in the back of my mind. Without the tool he used to measure and adjust the regulator, how do I know where I’m at now, and how far to adjust it? Seems like a guessing game to me. Take it out, turn it CW about a half turn and hope for the best?
HammonsS: The adjustment of the hammer spring from the info I gathered here is for minor adjustment only, and trust me everything I picked up was from these guys here. Ernest is the Guru and when I can I too will be shipping my Cricket off for a tune for maximum performance out of her. Once I figure out my needs for her. But as we don’t know what your true needs are, the bottom line falls down to this……………Are you happy with how your gun shoots? There are a lot of guys out there whom just shoot the Cricket right out the box and love every minute of it. Then there are those who want more need more to push there Cricket right to the very edge some get there and are in Heaven, some get there and are shouting to the GOD’s, “Is this all there is, Is there no more?????” So you got to ask yourself, “Do you feel lucky punk, Well do ya”? Sorry just had to throw that in there saw old Clint Eastwood on tv and it just came to me. :butkick:
Happy Shooting.
I decided to run a string, and all I can say is I could not have expected results this good. I’ll post it below, but in short I filled to 220bar, shot down to 125bar, and got 109 shots!!! Spread is still a little greater than I would like at 24fps, but I only have about 300 pellets through it, so I’m assuming this is still the break in period for the regulator. Hopefully after another 500-1000 shots the regulator will settle down a little. Either way, coming from a P-Rod to this is like nothing I could have expected.
Thanks again. This season is going to be a blast if this keeps up.
That’s a typical shot string when using just the HST of stock spring or a weaker one. if you want it around 10 fps ES —>you have to use the entire 95B regulated pressure to get 19fpe to lower your ES, not regulating the 125B reg pressure that is designed to shoot 31fpe.
when you shoot another crony string tomorrow keep an eye on the 1st, 2nd and maybe 3rd shot of the day—-its going to be lower then you like.
Believe me when I say I meant no disrespect to Ernest. I will admit though that I am a little gun shy when it comes to taking apart a 1600$ rifle and messing with the regulator without some idea what I’m doing. I saw his video on adjusting it out of the gun, but since I don’t have the tools, I’ll be the first to admit I don’t know what I’m doing when it comes to the Cricket. I know the P-Rod inside and out, but the cricket is a blank slate. If I could find some more information on it, I might try it, but right now I feel to uninformed to take the chance.
well within the single digits…. I think typical cricket 8 -10 fps over the whole string. i know ernest has one that is holding like 6 fps over the string.
60-70 on a std cricket shooting 880-890 isn FPS…. Your gonna get a lot at 20 fpe. but with what ernest suggested your string will tighten up and may get some more shots
is 110 shots typical? I thought I was reading 60-70? And what kind of spread is the gun capable of producing?
It maY not settle down like u think…. if you follow ernest advice that will get you there.

I’m going to give it a go this weekend. While I’ve got the gun taken apart, has anyone figured out how to deal with there ping sound in the air tube?
