Q:

Dialing back my Cricket .22

Just got my skeleton .22 yesterday. It’s currently shooting around 31fpe out of the box. I’d like to get it down to just under 20 for local field target. Can anyone point me towards the information I need to get it down that far. I doubt just reducing hammer spring tension on the stock spring is going to get me that far.

Thanks in advance.

Well, thanks guys for the assist. I went downstairs after work and backed out the hammer spring 6 turns from full clockwise and bingo, ~800fps w/ 14.3gr pellet (20.1fpe).
I decided to run a string, and all I can say is I could not have expected results this good. I’ll post it below, but in short I filled to 220bar, shot down to 125bar, and got 109 shots!!! Spread is still a little greater than I would like at 24fps, but I only have about 300 pellets through it, so I’m assuming this is still the break in period for the regulator. Hopefully after another 500-1000 shots the regulator will settle down a little. Either way, coming from a P-Rod to this is like nothing I could have expected.

Thanks again. This season is going to be a blast if this keeps up.

to shoot 18.1g you need around 700fps, to have a tight shot string you need to lower the reg pressure around 90-95B and max out the speed for that pressure and hopefully below 20fpe if you don’t it won’t be consistent. 1st mag ES will be high, varying speed first 5 shots–usually slow and cheep up, I went that road and you cant do it just adjusting the HSTA. you have to do 3 things:

1.Lower reg pressure
2. install weaker hammer spring
3. reduce stack washer on the reg.

I did all this to get my .177 shooting 8-12fpe to get a vary tight shot string.

Easy to get 19fpe but will it shot accurately and consistent to compete—there’s more to it then that, good luck

Lighten up the Hammer Spring Tensioner on the back / top of the stock. The lighter the strike the less air delivered to the pellet.
