Q:

Different JSB Pellets?

I went to the range today. I wasn’t trying for good groups, just playing around. I tried a couple of 100 yard groups. The first one measured 1.552, the tin was about empty so, I thought that I would try a 10 shot group. After 10 shots, I still had a few left over and decided to shoot them out. 23 shots went into a 1.984″ group. I thought that I would open a new tin and shoot 3 more shots. All three shots grouped to the left and opened the group up from 1.984 to 2.595″!

I was down to about 2000 psi and my reg is set at around 1650 so, the reg wasn’t messing me up. I refilled and shot seven more groups. All of them shot to the left of my zero. On group 6, I adjusted the windage a little and then gave it a little more for group 7. I was getting too dark to shoot any more.

I could be missing something but, It seems that pellets, from the different labeled JSB tins, have a different poi. The barrel had been given a through cleaning about 80-100 shots ago. The only variables were the pellets and a fresh charge.

I just got 12 tins in from Pyramid Air and that shipment had 2 of the differently labeled tins in it. I have one left and will have to do some more testing. The pellets, from last tin that I have left, are shinier that the others. My Starrett calipers measures them to be the same height and dia.

Hi Mam, Olgoat, Ted and all other, I’m following your post on all the .25 EDgun Issue.
I’m just received my new .25 EDgun, and I’m planning to set it to the 950’s whit Kings. I have a question. What posibly could happen if I just set the spring hammer to that velocity and don’t move the reg?
Thank’s for your help

I could not agree more Naser…

Jeff,
Here is a picture with scopes mounted on both guns, the Matador is still my favorite, its very efficient in terms of Air consumption & if it had a multishot then it would be “Perfect”, my favorite for a multi-shot mechnisim has to go to the HW100 by Weihrauch , I don’t like the AR80 multishot magazine nor the Evanix AR6.

Wow, well you definitely have the power…. You might find the high power of
the Matador .25cal to be adequate for your needs.

The Daystate AR80 is a beauty in real life; the pictures don’t do it justice bro.
I did try it after mounting the scope at about 15 yards & it was shooting Eun Jins 43gr at 940+ that’s around 85 ft/lb.
I am more into hunting small game to medium game therefore power is one of my main concerns.
I am going to try 31, 35.8 & 43 grains pellets that’s my only option so far.

Naser, I am really interested in seeing some targets from the 80FPE
Daystate. What pellets will you be trying in this gun?

Thanks for all the support guys, i think the reg mod will have to wait, since i just recieved all my rifles a week ago & i dont think ill have time to try all them plus tweaking hammer & reg.

I’ll just fiddel around with the pellets & hammer spring this weekend, im gonna try the Edgun & the Air Ranger.

Thank you once again guys, really helpful information.

Whats the Defualt the reg is set at on the .25 Matador ? and how do you guys know you have it set at say 1600PSI ?

If you decide to do the regulator adjustment, you will see the factory setting
written on the regulator…. It would be wise to fill your gun to about 2,400psi
and start shooting it until you see the velocity drop so you will know where
you are before you start any adjusting… Write down everything you do so
that you will have a guide to get you back to factory setting if you need to.
Also, only make one adjustment at a time… If you make 2 adjustments, you
will not know which adjustment you need to change if you do not achieve the
result you were looking for… There is a really fine line between
too little pressure and being able to add or reduce the hammer spring to get
the FPS you are looking for… Be very patient as it could possibly take many
tries to get it set the way you want it… You are definitely looking for an
FPS of 915-960FPS…. Also remember that Chronographs are not exact
from unit to unit… My Chrony could be as much as 25FPS + or – different
that another…. It can be done Naser but, just be sure you are
ready for a long process..

Usually we set them on 150-155 bar, and we do it for ENUJIN pellets, if you will use JSB Kings that will be 135-140 bar more then enough. But you need the tool to make it in a proper way.

To see where your reg is set at, you need a chrony. As you are shooting your gun, you will see a shot where the speed starts to fall off. Stop shooting and slowly refill the gun. The pressure gauge needle will rise slowly as the fill line becomes pressureized. The needle will stop or at least hesitate when the pressure reaches the reg setting.

My reg was marked 157 and I assume that meant 157 bars.

Excellent feedback guys,

Ted please please make a video on reg tweaking bro 🙂

Ed, the reason i want to tweak the reg is to try to get to the sweet spot between power, accuracy & number of shots & im not sure but i dont think hammer sping will do that alone.

Also the reason the Edgun is great especially after trying some of the top air rifles is because it can be tweaked & there loads of videos done showing how to do that.

I have the Daystate Air Ranger 80ft/lb & its the only gun thats more expensive then yours & i love the quality & the magazine with 10 shots but the Ed is still far better.

Guys, just remember that pellets are made in the different dies, and the lead mixture can be a slight different from part to part, it can cause the little different way of flying of your pellets. That doesn’t mean that one pellets aer better then another, that means the only thing — they are different 🙂 So, the best way is not to buy per few tins, buy a box, so you will have all the pellets made by the same time and most likely they will fly absolutely the same way. I sell JSB pellets in Russia for 5 years and may say that the most kind of problems are not with the pellets, they are with the clients 🙂 who is “saving” money buying few tins, spending half of them to adjust the gun, half to shoot, then buy another few tins and then spend half on adjusting 🙂

As for regulator, I would not recomend to get into it not being absolutely sure what you are doing and why you need it 🙂

Ed

Ted,

I was afraid that you would say that! I have 1 tin of the “new” pellets and 11 tins of the “old” pellets. I am going to shoot an air fill of of each and check for accuracy. I hope to have time for 2 fills each.

If the “new” ones are more accurate, I will have to call PA and order a bunch of them before word gets out!

PS, what in the hell are you doing up this late? Don’t you have to work in the morning? 😆

Tedd,

I made the same observation re: the 18’s a month or two ago on the Yellow.

http://www.network54.com/Forum/79537/message/1281014048/JSB+-+%26quot%3Bold%26quot%3B+vs.+%26quot%3Bnew%26quot%3B+pellet+and+tin++%26lt%3Bmacro+photo+comparison%26gt%3B

For them, the POI shifted, as well (from the “old” lot to the “new” lot). But, once I adjusted the scope all was well. They flew strait, so there wasn’t any “playing the slice”.

I found the “new” pellets to be overall more accurate than the “old” ones. However, for reasons unknown, I had ONE “old” tin of them that shot sub MOA – any day – any time. I didn’t realize it was a “magic” tin of pellets until after I opened the next tin (of course).

Overall, the “new” pellets have served me well…..in 18.1g.
