Its worse than that. I own over 30 firearms too and over 20 scopes. PCPs are great though. The airgun president here in st. Louis has over 125 airguns. Lol
nice scope.
reading about all the money you have tied up in this hobby (and envying your list of guns), i’m starting to feel better about parting with more of my own money.
i’m now looking for the lowest profile 11mm ring i can find to attach my laser. i was using the utg ls269 ring that came with the laser and an 11mm to weaver adaptor. i should be able to drop some more weight there.
the laser’s about 3/4″ in diameter but i can use some tape so it fits any 1″ ring.
I own a Nightforce NSX 8-32 $1500 scope and the Hawke 20x etched reticle is every bit as nice. The wire is a little on the thick side on the Varmint. I may swap one of the Tacticals as well. The Stubby is light enough it will be fine.
i’d really like to drop a 1/2lb weight on the scope but i’m in love with that mil-dot 20 reticle. it’s so beautiful it’s almost a piece of art.
if the varmint sf had the etched tactical reticle, i’d swap it for the 1/2lb heavier tactical scope in a heart-beat.
You won’t need it. I have two Hawke tactical 6.5-20s on my Condor and Marauder 25 but a Hawke Varmint SF 6-24 on the Stubby Extreme because it is over 1/2 lb lighter but the etched glass 20x reticles on the tacticals are nicer than the 10x wired 1/2 mil dot reticles on the Varmints even though both work equally well and are very clear. Its just not illuminated for the weight savings.
i have a talon ss with a ttunes ldc, hawke sidewinder 30 tactical scope mounted on an airforce tri-rail and utg ls 269 laser.
i’m hoping the maddog stock will eliminate the need for the tri-rail so i can drop a little weight there.
What gun do you have? You will love it. They were real smart to get an exclusive on them.
thank you for all the info.
i just placed my order for the short frame. (r&l should give you a commission.)
Yep. Enuff said. I carried it all day on Friday and got 4 squirrels. My Condor is so heavy and long that holding it up for 30 seconds to shoot is enough for me. My Marauder and Condor are only bipod/bench rest guns now. We did a weight and measurement comparison as well and while Stubby was heavier it was less than you would think.
Here are my measurements on Stubby Extreme
27.5″ long
2.5″ wide (tank is the widest)
8″ high exlcuding scope and scope mount
gun is 6 lbs 8 ozs (Short Stubby stock is 1 lb 10 ozs of that and a stock Talon (5.25) loses a few parts for the stock like grip, trigger guard, etc)
I put a Hawke Varmint Side Focus 6-24×44 1/2 mil dot and it is 18 ozs.
They add a threaded bushing on the barrel behind the end cap so the end cap comes off for the shroud. (let me know if you want a pict w/ shroud)
This thing is balanced perfectly in my opinion. because a lot of the weight is so close to your body it isn’t a factor.
oh man, you’re selling me on the stubby frame. does the balance of the stubby make the added weight a non-factor? (that’s about i’ll need to hear.)
They have done plenty of Edgun comparisons to Condors, etc on this forum ad you can judge those for yourself. With Stubby the field has just changed though on one of the Airforce guns main complaints. You now can add the ergonomics to the mix (and maybe aesthetics). There is no real comparison for flexibility between the two. We have done performance, accuracy, shot count testing between the two as well. Because you can change tank/valves/barrels, etc on the Stubby so readily it gets a bit unfair to compare them. That said I would like one of each. The Edgun can’t replace the Stubby’s features now though but don’t forget the very high quality of the Edgun.
i thought the stubby stock was too expensive but after checking the edgun i started to think, that stock’s not so bad if the two guns (talon ss with stubby and edgun bullpup) are remotely comparable.
Nope – only saw them in mainly Ted’s videos. Actually I have a cohort in testing with an Edgun and after some comparison testing by both of us and many discussions we have a pretty good idea of how they compare. He has the short Bullpup in 22 which is a close match for my Stubby in 22 (although I have the 25 barrel as well). The Edgun is a very excellent gun but a bit pricey (ok more than a bit). Stubby is considerably less pricey but has some tradeoffs – but price puts it into a much larger market (the one I am in because I want more PCP guns than just one or two real expensive ones). Both have some advantages and disadvantages. It’s hard to beat Stubby for flexibility though and local support.
@tbln,
have you shot an edgun?

that made me laugh.
but my dad collected antique firearms (especially, derringers) so i grew up in a house with one room devoted to my dad’s hobby so i shouldn’t be that surprised.
i haven’t come to the point of devoting one room to my airguns, yet. but i’m pretty sure you and, i’m certain that airgun present, must have a substantial part of your residences devoted to your airguns/firearms.
and, this all started so innocently with my desire to keep the ground squirrel population under control so my house doesn’t fall down from all the burrows they’re digging in my house pad’s hillside…
