Edgun 30 Cal Pellet Clipping and THE FIX – pic heavy
OK. guys.. Go easy on me !!!! I am by far NOT a Professional Machinist…. Just a half ass Hack 😯
Part 1 : Upon discovering the pellet clipping problem after delivery of my R3 30 cal… At 7pm Friday Night…. I was on a mission !!!
So I first made a “Moderator Nut” removal tool….
Part 2: Early Saturday morning I had the Inspiration to modify the above to add an “Alignment Rod”.
The idea was to have a “Stepped” rod that fit Snugly into the Barrel while at the same time holding the moderator in alignment… All while being able to tighten the “Moderator Nut”……. Piece of Cake… 🙄 🙄 🙄 🙄 🙄
(and not damage to barrel and Crown)
The idea was to hold the Moderator in line with the Barrel while “SLOWLY” snugging down the “Moderator Nut”. This was a slow process to turn the nut 1/8 at a time … Remove the tool, Then check for alignment and then Repeat until the nut was Tight.
After Reassembly of the the gun. I did a final check with the alignment tool to ensure that nothing had shifted. I am happy to say I accomplished this on the first try. The rod slid in the moderator and snugly eased in the the Barrel. ( I did my best to hold less then 0.001 tolerance on the Barrel alignment Rod fit and then stepped it up to fit the Moderator hole.
This was what the moderator looked like after 20 shots… I think it worked 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀
And for “Big Eddie’s” Reward,… I topped him off with a nice piece of Glass…….
NOW i bet you guys want Chrono Strings … DB Reading…. Accuracy testing…… I AM TIRED AND HUNGRY … MORE TO FOLLOW

With regards to my Flyer…. VERY Low Blood Sugar..been working non stop since 6am… and Really Light Trigger.. IT WAS ALL ME.. 😯

=) Mine is not scoped yet. Darn clipping issue. All fixed now! should have some time to scope it and shoot it tomorrow.
I found 12mm Craftsman L shaped Hex at Sears.

Sounds like the most difficult part is getting the 12mm hex to wrench on.
I was looking for a set of t-handked metric allen wrenches and there are not a lot of hardware stores that carry them.

I have fixed the clipping issue on my R3 .30 Long.
Removed moderator, (bought 12mm Craftsman Hex Key, cut 20mm long piece off, used Gearwrench box end 12mm wrench to undo the barrel nut)
Indexed barrel little different and adjusted cover to transfer block fitment a bit.
Re assembled while pushing moderator up a little. Zero clipping. Zero shavings.
Was very happy. Couldn’t believe it so I used some wight out to triple check. 20 more pellets – ZERO clipping, ZERO shavings.
For my type of shooting, field target competition practice, it’s perfect.
For 30 cal testing I would consider it too short to test what that caliber should be capable of providing in terms of overall working distances.
I agree that’s why I asked Coda to see if he could provide some longer distance shots.
I have just about 50 yards and it’s indoors but unheated… 😉

That flyer is a bit disconcerting at 25 yards…
I’d be happy with 100 to 120 but I don’t think anyone here has a range set up like that nor can they shoot in the winter months at that distance. Ahhhhh, one of the luxuries of living in Florida! I’ll be shooting tomorrow in a tee shirt. 😀
100-150 yards is what I would consider an equivalent distance to 45-50 for a 177.

I don’t even consider testing a 177 rifle at 25 yards valid for anything to prove accuracy being that 100% of my rifles (2 USFT’s, an EdGun and a Cricket, all in 177) will shoot one hole 10 shots groups at 25 yards…

I had the same idea for the alignment tool last night.
Great minds think alike or, should one of us be very afraid? 😯 😆
I bought a 12 mm hex socket today and drove the hex piece out of it. Man, is that thing hard! 😯 I ate up a couple carbide tipped drill bits just getting a hole drilled thru it!
I can make the alignment tool at work; I will have to order some 12 mm hex mild steel rod from McMaster Carr.

Having been in the Shooing industry for over 25 years… It would be nice for everything to be perfect.. I’ll take “Close any day” if I can do a little adjustment here and there… It’s always fun to have a challange
