Edgun: Another erratic string shots

My .25 edgun long start shooting erratic like this earlier post http://www.talonairgun.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=26526. My reg were adjusted from stock 12′ to 7″ish CW and was shooitng a stady 910-920fps. It was shooting great for 4-5 fills until I notice it sound a little different and my POI start low, then right on then off. At first I though it was the winds causing it. Here is the chrony result below.

I think I did more than enough trouble shooting with the reg and trying this and that. Let’s say if I try again and work, I will not be at ease. This reg had failed on 2x , when will the 3rd time be? next refill? week? month? or after 1yr warranty ran out? It’s a 2k gun, I am not taking my chance on it (the current reg).

Fill up to 200bar
Adjust the hst 15 fps under the max speed.
Fill up again to 200 bar.
Do a full string without adjusting hst.
Fil in the numbers in a graph.
If you took it apart, you did not took any photos?

Regards robert

Well today, I decided to give it another try. There’s nothing else to loose except for 3-4 week wait for a new reg. So, I give the reg another 1/4 turn and now it’s 1 1/4 from stock. Fill it up to 120b and see what happen.

120b 780 769 775 779 782 785 790 792 783 778 785 794 797 800 792 786 796 740 744 743 731 730 end 87b
SOmewhere in the string above I adjust the HST 2-3 time just to see if it goes higher, and it seems that the reg is working or lock-in a certain setting.

Since it seems to work, I adjust the reg once again, this time to 11′, so from stock I am almost 1 whole turn in. Fill it up to 140b.

Hey llok what we got here… could this be it, it is fixed or reg once working as it should be again?

HST back out 1/2t and refill to 200b and see what this baby can do πŸ™‚

What just happen? I though it all good, reg lock-in and the above string is shitty. It seem the last 3 fills it’s good and reg lock-in and the last one it didn’t. This is the exact pattern when my string starts to have erratic shots in the beginning.

I’ll be wating “patiently” for a new reg from Tony, estimate time 3-4 weeks. have a good night everyone πŸ˜₯

I think he already did all that. Look at few posts above,

quote Sir Ville:

I quess itΒ΄s time for a new reg … πŸ˜₯

I think this is to soon to say.
Take it apart and post some photos.
There are several things that can be wrong.
Clean it, change all the o-rings (also the ring from the adjusterscrew), grease it and try again.

Good luck!

Regards robert.

Today I tried Ted suggestion, by turning the reg down a little more. Stock was at 12′, last setting was at 8′ and now 12′. Pretty much it’s 1 whole turn from stock setting.
Fill to 210 and let it sit for awhile and end up with 200b and HST back out 2t.

I would try turning the reg down a little more and see if that helps. Your max fps is too high and I would like to see a string after you turn the reg down some.

Well this morning, woke up early to get this string shots. I really think my reg is dead. If anyone else can help confirm, that will be helpful as well.

Hst is set at 3t out after reg tear down.

I guess it’s time to send Tony an email.

Naser – Nice catch on the reg to be set to 115b to achoieve around 900fps…… if it’s working after the tear down. reg is now set to 8′

So today in the evening I have some time to work on my problem. Everything look nice and flushes for the regulator, except for the locking screw that lock the regulator adjustment. It’s about 1/4 t looses. I disassembled the regulator and cleanit up, all external and internal orings are still in great shape. I use Hoppes gun clean (non-flameable), cannot fin Ballistol @ ProBass.

Assemble the reg, lubed and back into the tube it goes. Fill it up to 140b and use the degasser to 50b, then up to another 140b and degassed to 50b. And finally assembled the whole gun and gill it up tp 200b. Hopefully tomorrow, I will get home from work with daylight left to do some chrony. I’ll take the HST 4t back and work in slowly, just in case it needed to be back out 2t more.

Thats a non working regulator. Thats why your speed start slow cause of the high pressure behind the valve closed than as the pressure drops you get higher speeds & keep going down from there.

This also shows that if you need to shoot at around 880-900fps than set the regulator at a pressure of between 115Bar.

The small nylon part that the adjuster seals against was loose in the regulator on my R3.
I think it was glued in place. I remade this part with a press fit and solved my problem.
