edgun barrel
hey guys im new to this sight,and kinda new to airguns ive owned a few and currently own a daystate airwolf mct 22cal and just picked up an edgun 22 cal long version second hand with a little over a thousand pellets put through it my question is what are your thoughts or experience on doing a bore paste job on these barrels or would that be a bad idea, im wondering if smoothing them up a little may keep the barrel from leading up as quickly any thoughts or experience welcomed thanks

On the original topic, do you know if the barrel has been pasted prior to you receiving it? If it has I wouldn’t do it again.
But worst case scenario is you get another barrel turned down to fit, not a huge issue really…

thanks og if there is one thing ive learned in my days on this mud ball its you can never stop learning, the day i think i know it all is the day i will learn something the hard way thats good info i needed to hear i will take it and use it,so you think i need to slow it down some?
OG – I have been reading ALL the posts in this forum starting back @ page 22 til current, you know your stuff – don’t down play it! Nice recommendation on the paste also.

If your groups are geting better as the pressure goes down, you might want to try turning out your hammer spring tension screw a little and see how it shoots. I tried shooting JSBs at 950 and my Edguns shot better at 890-910. Just sayn.
JB bore past is good. Brownells has it.
I don’t like to use it as I think that it is too abrasive unless the bore really needs it. A good polishing paste is better.
There are a lot of polishing products out there and I have tried about all of them. I use this now, http://www.metalgloss.com/
You don’t need the protective sealer for the barrel but, if you ever want to polish up some aluminum, you need it.
I have a 91 Harley that I restored. I glass beaded the wheels, taped off the rim and edge of the spokes and powder coated them. I tried a lot polishes on the wheel’s exposed edges and then found Metal Gloss. That stuff is easy to use and, 5 years later, I can still see my reflection in them! When I say reflection, I mean that it is like a mirror. I am still amazed at how well it works! OOPS, sorry, wrong forum!
The first thing that I would do is remove the rear breech and push a pellet thru the barrel. If the pellet really drags as it goes thru the barrel, it could need bore paste/polishing.
I have a 22 and a 25 R2.5 and a R3 25. I lightly polished both R2.5 barrels and left the R3 alone, it didn’t need it.
I did a slight recontour and polishing of all 3 in leads and polished the crowns of all three.
Slowly pushing a pellet thru will tell you if anything needs done. I think that the pellet should smoothly ease into the bore, It will take some force as it is being resized but not too much force. There should not be two “notches” as the head and tail enter. It should then smoothly go thru the barrel and smoothly exit the crown. The pellet should require more force when it nears the muzzle end as it is into the choke.
Usually, the in lead needs some work. If I have a “catch” as the pellet is exiting the crown, I will try the polishing first. I use Metal Gloss and a cone shaped felt mandrel in my Dremel. If that doesn’t do it, I push a dab of JB Bore paste or fine valve grinding compound into the barrel’s muzzle and push a pellet thru from the breech. I make sure that the “dab” of paste goes into the bore no more than ¼” or so. Doing this takes the machining “burr’ off of the crown’s cut. It can take a lot of paste and pellets to get this right.
I think that the pellet should smoothly enter the barrel, push thru the barrel with increased pressure needed as it nears the crown and then exit without a catch.
But then again, what the hell do I know?

well i havnt polished the barrel yet but i did sit down today and started putting some pellets down range on 25 yrds and then 40 yrds then at 70yrds 15.9 jsb there was hardly any drop from 25 to 40 then went out to 70 yrds and was just a tad over one mil on 20 magnification this long 22 cal edgun is showing some real promise will burn some more up this weekend
thanks for the info ive put about 300 rounds or so through it and pulled some patches through it to see where it starts to lead up and was just wondering about a polish,right now im shooting 15.9 gr jsb’s through it at about 950 and have noticed that at about 170 bar it really starts to group one real tight ragged hole at 30 yrds i did some tests with the 18 gr and was not as good but then they were aroung 870 or so on the chrony but they did have a sweet spot like the 15.9 i just didnt play with them as much though,im still getting used to this gun and i can say its different compared to shooting my wolf mct, im trying to figure out where it likes to perform
Bore paste won’t hurt anything it is a good product! but when you do it just don’t get carried away! a littel goes a long way! It shouldn’t take much to polish it up, a cleaning before hand will be the way to do it, get it good and clean before the bore paste and several clean patches and you should be shinny! I have noticed the LW barrels Ed puts on his Edguns are very smooth to begin with and smoothing and shinning things up will only be a better thing! 😯

he sounds alot like me i build airboats for bowfishing that is my other addiction and im always finding new ways to tune them for more speed and more power so i know there is a part of me that wants to know what can be done to get the most out of what i have so learning from someone who has been there done that is what im trying to do,and not make a costly mistake,ive been reading tons and tons of posts on here and this is the place to go for what we do with airguns, ive learned alot in a short time on here.
