You hear the sound of the bullet before the inpact. Maybe interesting making a vid with the cam not in front of your target but behind?
Right at the 2:00 mark… I think the birds hear the sound of the pellet as it is approaching…
It’s pretty darned distinct!! 😯
Thanks for the vids Ted, the mildot one was particularly helpful.
You can hear it. Pretty interesting.
(BTW, that guy needs some video editing software so we don’t have to watch him drive.)

I think of all of your vids Ted the “Can They See…” video has the hardest hits yet!! 😯
If I didn’t know better i’d of thunk your were getting into special effects… 😆
Nice use of slow motion video on that experiment with birds. Unfortunately for me i now have an excuse for the bird that got away stories. I have to say i love seeing the raw effects of a pellet viewed at a few hundred frames per second. I also like how good your videos are compared to the many many hunting vids on youtube.
These are really cool Ted.I need some of that chipmunk eradication. 🙂
One sidenote: if you shoot like this, you never can assure an humane kill.. On you other vids you talked a lot about this topic, and then this……….. I think the goal is always an humane kill..
I knew that might haunt me a bit. But, with a semi-auto, I could unload on any animals not killed immediately. This is something I can not do with my single shot. And this is also something that every bird hunter on earth must deal with. I’ve shot countless ducks and pheasants with a shotgun that required a 2nd shot to finish them off. It’s just the way it is.
No wounded bird would have suffered long at all considering the rapid-fire accuracy of that gun. And I made certain to not fire on any that were flying over the corn field, so as not to lose them. I’m always torn between making long explanations [like this one] of my actions, or just getting to the footage. If I preach too long – folks get bored, and I don’t blame them. If I don’t mention anything, others assume the worst and label me a demon or hypocrite. 🙄
Nice vid again, and prolly the best editing done in this one.

Awesome Vids Ted! You got me sold on the Matador, I just got my new Bull Pup .22 from Tony the other day, and I have to say, YOU have saved me alot of re-search. Totally enjoy the hunts and info, keep them coming ! 😀
Classic!! Well complimented with music from Ride of the Valkyries from Richard Wagner!! Loved it when that kicked in!! 😉
Gotta tie a string around my finger or something. I keep forgetting to update this little journal I’ve been keeping.

I’m really starting to fall behind on my duties. These have been uploaded for a few days. Consider me fashionably late – I guess. 😕
