Q:

Evanix vs. Marauder

I have been really wanting a marauder for quite some time. But after spending some time on the yellow, and reading numbers and capacities on pyramid air, I question my thoughts. Most Evanix PCP (AR6, Rainstorm, Blizzard) have more capacity, even after the greg davis extension is applied to the Mrod. The rainstorm comes in lighter, and the blizzard and AR6 come in heavier. Most but the ar6 have a 10 shot magazine. Power seems to be greater for all Evanix out the box, even when comparing .22 Evanix to the .25 Mrod. All are listed at the same noise level by PA. Not trying to step on toes, or insult, but since I haven’t gotten to hold any of them,(shopping overseas), what, aside from the questionable Made in America stamped on the gun makes the Mrod better than an Evanix? The Mrod is cheaper by about $200, but the used market puts them really close in price. Magazines are even about the same price

I have both guns. I do love my Mrod it’s a great gun the rainstorm is a better hunting gun lighter more power. If I had to make choice I would take the rainstorm but I don’t need because I got both hope it helped a little.

from a rainstorm owner on the yellow

My Rainstorm is stock, all I did was tighten the hammer spring, I’m getting 50 FPE and 20+ shots from 200 bar

i havent seen a heavy wadcutter in 22 i dont think they will give the accuracy i want at 50 yds going that fast

85fpe… have you tried a heavy wad cutter?

One thing to remember, many people hunt with a 22-250 centerfire rifle. It has 2K fpe and they manage to expand and transfer all the energy… its the projectile selection for the prey that’s important.

i think the 25 would give more damage seeing that it is a bigger pellet the 45fpe would disperse more through the body
the smaller 22 would probly just zipp through not causing much energy spread hell im shooting a 22condor 32grn pell at 1100fps producing 85fpe

45fpe is 45fpe but the .25cal will leave a bigger hole in its victim

WHich is greater, 45 fpe in .25, or 60 fpe in .22?

Greater / Better is ambiguous… it depends on terminal ballistics of the projectile (HP vs Dome vs Pointed vs Nosler), the prey (center mass vs head), and range of shot (more fpe is better for longer range).

I’m enjoying this thread as I’m looking at a traditional rifle to add to my Talon SS next year. I want something in a larger caliber for hunting only.

I was in the same predicament. Blizzard vs. marauder.. I was having trouble until I did some research and found some people (particularly on airgunadvice.net) that testified to the poor quality of the asian Evanix brand as a whole. I myself have no personal experience with them, but if they were as great as they seemed from the pics and specs on Pyramyd wouldn’t they be a lot more popular..?

I went with ordering a .25 marauder from Mac1, who does some prep work to ensure the quality of that particular model. I received it about a week ago and it is amazing!! Super accurate and very powerful (you can get 47 fpe from marauders):

I wholeheartedly recommend the marauder over the blizzard just from what I’ve heard/experienced. But that’s just me.

i have both, go with rainstorm you will not be disappointed.much better all the way around.my mdr even w/gd golden touch is not near the gun the evanix is[jmho]

What caliber is your mrod, and what kind of power/shot string are you getting out of each? Which is quieter, and which feels better? Is there a forum for Evanix guns?

I have been thinking about an mrod, but in .177 to replace the 850

Gimmick, I am in the same position, so i am asking those that maybe own one or both to post.

As an observer, it looks like the Evanix does what’s needed without customization… I know the MROD is a good gun but what is $200 worth of your time farting around modifying a production gun to match the specs you want?

Disclaimer: I own neither gun.

I have an 850 that will be HPAed when I get back to the states. It will take care of the 2 legged pests. The big gun will be for 4 leggers. 45+ just gives extra wiggle room. I would rather have the ability to tune down to 45 fpe than have to tune up to 45 fpe.

Dust, the Mrod in .25cal has been great out of the box.. IMHO I would go with
the MROD and think about installing an Audrius Regulator..

The regulator would decrease the power, and reduce useable capacity. Plus, I think the highest number I have seen fpe wise for a .25 mrod was about 45-ish. I don’t see that as a reason to go up to .25 if a another PCP with bigger tank can do 45+ in .22.

The regulator MIGHT decrease the power (It has not been tried so no
one knows) but, if you are not hunting 4 legged pry (which the Mrod will
handle) then what difference does it make whether it has 45ish or
45+ish….. As for usable capacity, it will not reduce it, it will actually
increase it… With a regulator, you can increase the fill PSI and get a
consistant shot string rather than a power curved string that needs POI
adjustments… The reason to go up to .25cal on the low end guns is that
the Mrod has proven itself to be very accurate out of the box…. The
Mrod in .22cal is a crap shoot at best….
