Q:

F350 Considering

I met someone a while back who buys a new F350 every other year for his RV and ordered a new one that arrives in October.

His current one has quite a bit more towing capacity than my F150 Ecoboost and is necessary if we move to a fifth wheel at some point. It is also a 2014, 20k miles, setup for towing, 6.7l diesel, Platinum style, SRW (single rear wheel). It will fit in my garage albeit 11″ longer and 2 inches higher. Mileage towing is better than mine but highway speed by itself is a bit lower. It had 925 ft lb torque vs 420 for my 3.5 Eco. Obviously, the Platinum has about every option.

What are going to be the main issues/problems with moving to a bigger diesel truck?

Thanks man, First trip in this one is this coming week.

Very impressive SECoda …… looks longer than the house we live in.

Again, a very cool house …… on very big wheels ! :8:

My guess of 22,000 lbs for the rig loaded wasn’t too far off (280 lbs). We put it on a Cat (truck) scale. It sure tows well despite the weight with that truck. The old 2014 Lariat SCrew F-150 Eco wasn’t even close on payload max, rear axle limit, or towing capacity.

Now that’s camping!

It’s a looong way to the back. :suprisedn:

Just hauled the new RV home. Man it’s big. The roof is so high. The truck pulled it beautifully. The auto-leveler is great!

Confession: I just added a fourth HDTV for outside. It now has as many TVs as our house. lol A 50″ (main living room), 42″ (front room), 32″ (outside), and a 24″ in the master bedroom.

Well the deal is done and they are installing the suspension stops and the new fifth wheel hitch on my truck today and I dropped off the old RV trade-in. The old RV did 14 camp trips and we really enjoyed it during the 15 months we owned it. It just required a lot more effort to hookup and setup than a fifth with an auto leveler.

I spent a few hours this morning testing everything I could on the new one as it was plugged in with the A/Cs on. Everything I tested worked perfectly.

The wife always picks the house (or RV). It’s a large heavy unit. An F-350 was absolutely necessary for the payload and towing capacity. They even add Tembrens suspension stops for this fifth wheel beast.

New RV – First camp trip reserved for August 4th. I have a big pull-thru site for the first time. lol

Old RV – last camp trip in it. It was very nice as well and loaded with amenities.

Cool. I will do the same thing at some point.

That’s big Coda, I already see what window I’d use for shooting P-dogs out of. I just bought a extended warranty from the site you showed me.
Thanks!

Well this is the fifth wheel she wants. It’s like dragging your house along. lol It needs a generator (it’s prepped for one (Onan) in the front door behind the pin) so we can start the refrigerator early to load it since the main fridge uses an inverter for 110v. I would add a lift on the back for a bike. She doesn’t like the sacrifices the garages make to the rest of the camper with the toy haulers.

3 – HDVTs
2 – A/Cs wired for a 3rd (A/C in middle of top is central – wired for third in front) Need 50 amp to run two of the three at any time.
Sleeps 8
42′ long
5 slides
2 – refrigerators (23 cu ft residential and 8 cu ft in front living room)
1 and 1/2 bathrooms
12,015 lbs. empty (about 14,000 lbs loaded) (The truck is about 8000 lbs. so 8000 + 14000 = 22,000 for the rig) 😛
2600 lbs. hitch weight (why F-350 was needed for larger payload capacity)

Looks nice. I was wondering why I was having trouble with PB.

Looks like Photobucket just screwed everyone over. They are holding photos for ransom. Lol

I switched to Flickr and Imgur. Imgur seems better so far. More options.

I found out the DEF system and all emissions stuff is under the standard Ford warranty included with zero deductible for seven years. I don’t think GM or Chrysler do that. :winkn:

I hand washed and waxed the truck (paint is old enough since it was a leftover) this afternoon. It seemed like there was twice as much surface to wax as the old one. It took me 2.5 hours. Whew!

I am looking at the Premium 7 year 75,000 miles $100 ded for $1605 (Flood Ford) on the new F-350. My dealer wanted quite a bit more for the identical one ($2100).

https://www.floodfordesp.com/index.php <==== These guys are the least expensive I found.

These guys also sell the Ford ESP but the quote was a bit higher for me. ($1750)

Coda what’s the Web site to check out extended warranty? I have 41,000 miles on my King Ranch and am thinking of getting one also.

I was at the Ford dealer yesterday and a new 2017 Aluminum F-350 Lariat 6.7L turbo long bed after incentives is $69.5k (MSRP is higher). :suprisedn: It only weighs 300 lbs. less which isn’t much on a 7800 lb. truck (maybe 4%). The King Ranch was a few grand more for that fancier leather (MSRP about $75k).

I also checked out an oil change cost. They are about $100. 13 quarts of oil and a giant fancy filter. Fuel filter change every other oil change. Oil change at every 5000 miles towing or about 8000 miles normally.

I am getting an extended warranty direct from Ford online (saves about 5% from dealer scalping $1605). The 7 year 75,000 mile bumper to bumper. There is way too much expensive stuff that can go wrong. Just the DEF system is expensive. A turbo replacement is $3k. It has nearly all of the fancy electronics like my wife’s Titanium. Everyone on the RV forum recommends an extended warranty towing these monster RVs. I have three towing coverages as it is. lol Coach-net covers the truck, RV, and even my motorcycle for towing.

That is amazing. PDogs plump when you cook em’. Lol

Makes the ammo affordable. We have those 17 WSM now.

At Bennet Springs Missouri trout fishing in the Ozarks.
