F350 Considering
I met someone a while back who buys a new F350 every other year for his RV and ordered a new one that arrives in October.
His current one has quite a bit more towing capacity than my F150 Ecoboost and is necessary if we move to a fifth wheel at some point. It is also a 2014, 20k miles, setup for towing, 6.7l diesel, Platinum style, SRW (single rear wheel). It will fit in my garage albeit 11″ longer and 2 inches higher. Mileage towing is better than mine but highway speed by itself is a bit lower. It had 925 ft lb torque vs 420 for my 3.5 Eco. Obviously, the Platinum has about every option.
What are going to be the main issues/problems with moving to a bigger diesel truck?

Chrome bug guard. This wont help my 5’4″ wife look over the hood when she drives it (she said). Should she drive it? >:) She actually pulls the RV if I decide to ride.

Just looked this bad boy over. You must have toys when camping. The master bedroom is above the garage and the bed goes up and down. It’s taller than it appears. It’s 42′ long and the 17k lb. gross just happens to need an F-350 6.7L Diesel Turbo to tow it well.
I can remember the predator birds landing by the dogs while we were still shooting. I try to get the sentry dogs first to knock out their command and control. 😛
Looks to be in the upper 80s next week out there. The more sunshine the better, the dogs need the sun to shine so they can see the eagles shadow. We don’t do as good on cloudy days. Enjoy your camping.
This is it. I sold my other truck for exactly what I had paid for it 14 months ago and paid cash for this one. It feels/rides/drives just like my other truck and gets better mileage (50% better towing our heavy TT. From 10 mpg with the 3.5 Eco to 15 with the 6.7L with a heavy tow). Both get about 21.5-22 highway. A duelly wouldn’t be so much fun around town. A tonneau cover (that works with a fifth wheel hitch) is being installed today (also buying a lot of accessories). You know I used to hunt squirrels with a 30-06. I guess it is overkill for carrying groceries. It gets a 13 quart oil/filter change every 10k miles which is $80. The tires are 275/65/R20 Michelin A/T’s.

I hope it isn’t hot like it has been here. The new truck is pulling the RV to Bennett Springs State Park in the Ozarks next week trout fishing and camping. I had to lower the hitch ball 2″ on the new truck since it sits higher. We are planning our next PD hunt next year already. My son-in-law really wants to go.

I seem destined to buy new leftovers (or just a cheapskate at heart). I had to buy this big boy new 2016 to save on fuel costs on my 2014 F-150 Lariat 3.5 Eco. (joking) It does get five mpg better towing my rig and about the same on the highway as the F-150 did. Right now here diesel is about $.06 cheaper a gal. Of course then there is a little DEF it needs as well.
Actually, this is for when we upgrade to a big toy hauler later on after this camping season. Forty foot plus toy haulers are heavy (15k lbs. empty and need the heavy duty payload for the heavy pin weights. We didn’t need a duelly luckily.
Although it is the Lariat I am of course adding FARKLEs. I love red (wife not so much) but it is big so there is a lot of red and it needs some accent. Also, mud flaps, chrome mirror covers, chrome bug guard, window vent shades, and it needed some Weathertech mats. Not sure what I will do to accent the exterior yet. :wink2:
Zonk – going to check out a F350 Lariat tomorrow. Screw SRW with the 6.7L turbo diesel. The Lariat has the highest remaining payload which is what I need for the heavy pin weight in the bed on the toy hauler. I don’t need the dually and that would be tough in may garage. It’s all setup for towing since we will still pull the big TT for a while. It is a like new 2015 with only 20,000 miles one owner red.

Many of our state parks are well off of the beaten path. That is why I only agreed to it if i got a portable DISH sat. Lol

We are still looking at toy haulers (5th wheel). For the toy hauler my wife likes inside (Keystone Raptor) – I definitely need a dually F350 class diesel truck with the pin weights pushing 3850 lbs (7000 truck payload vs 1800 for my F150) in the bed but they (truck) are a real monstrosity around the burbs. This thing is like hauling your house with garage around. lol It is 16,000 lbs. dry so 20,000+ lbs. loaded plus the 10,000 lb. truck. :suprisedn: The RV is 42’8″. It has two 30 gallon gas tanks in the rear with electric pump for fueling your toys. :biggrinn:
Canyon, I used to buy new every two because I like new trucks. Now being retired I’ll buy new every four years.
Empty it will be a harder ride. That’s about it.

Looks real nice Coda. Just got back from P dog shooting. Our best day was 823 dogs in 7 hours. I had 480 kills and my buddy came in second place again. My .22 Tony Kidd and CZ 452 in 17 HMR were my main guns this rear.
