Fighting with the condor AGAIN
Well, after a few months of perfect performance it was about time for a new screw up, so be it.
I can’t get the thing to hold a zero to save my life. Shoots accurately, but not in the same spot.
For example. I shot it this morning at a crow, missed a very easy shot. So I shot it at paper to see if I just pulled or something. It was about 1″ down left. So I sighted it in and got it back to perfect. Shooting all through the same hole at 25 yards.
Went to shoot a squirrel a bit later, missed again. So again, I shot paper. I was now off about 1.5″ up right. 😕 😕 😕 That has happened a couple of times now.
The gun is sitting on a table between these shots. No moving around. Just sight in and leave it sitting, then go back to it and shoot again.
Could inconsistent velocity or something do this? Should I play with the tophat and power wheel? Shroud clipping? Leapers scope going out? Something else?

Well, I think I’m going to put it in the case and never touch it again, because it is actually working now!
So again, new hammer and weight, the power wheel is on 8-1, cleaned everything off and put it back together. The low PW setting gives it a solid lock each time, so I no longer have to worry about it putting a hole in my foot. Everything feels clean and smooth.
The weather sucks here so I haven’t been able to get the chrony out and working. The accuracy is terrific though, one hole at 25 yards. It’s also very quiet, but still hitting the target very hard.
So, for now at least, it is doing what it is supposed to. I’m sure something will give in soon enough, but for the time being it’s good. 🙂

Sorry for the long time guys, truthfully, I got so tired of playing with it I put it in the cabinet and started shooting subsonic rounds out of the .22lr. A bit after the problem above, the hammer quit locking forwards and would snap closed a second after I loaded it, causing it to shoot wherever I was pointing. So to keep myself from wrapping the gun around a tree, I put it up for a while.
I pulled it back out today and started playing with it again. I took everthing apart and cleaned it. I had the old condor hammer and weight in, so I replaced it with the new parts Pulaskius kindly sent me a little while back. I turned the power wheel to about 9, so it wouldn’t put as much pressure on the spring, making it lock better. I also stretched the springs in the trigger parts a little.
I didn’t get to test it very well because it was about dark. It did lock every time which was one of my bigger concerns. It doesn’t matter if it’s accurate if the thing shoots me in the foot. I shot about 6 shots, group was a bit larger than I like, but I had also just finished pumping the tank up from 1700psi, so my heart rate was up a good bit. I will test more tomorrow.
I have my fingers crossed accuracy will be better than what I shot today. In general, I expect way too much. If it won’t group under .5″ at 100 yards I’m unhappy. But I’ll try to keep my expectations reasonable when I play tomorrow. 🙂

Jerry, if your serious, you have one bad ass job.
When it comes to the government spending your money, S&B scopes are trivial, and probably the best value for the money!
The “scope” I’m working on now has to be accurate for miles not yards so there is a scale factor to consider. Especially if you happen to be in the potentially “collateral” damage zone!
And I thought S&B was expensive!! 😯 😆
Just so you know, everything moves with temperature. I’m currently working on testing a $3.8 million dollar “scope” and we need to adjust for temperature to keep it within 80 micro radians error…
Well, shooting again today and it’s dead on. So hopefully whatever was wrong no longer is!
Of course now I have to turn the power down, it’s shooting way too hard. 😆
I tell ya Lama, I’m happy with my Leapers 4X40 non I.R. I think the fact thats it’s fixed and very simple has something to do with it.
