Q:

H&N Field Target 5.53 14.66 grain in new Short Mutant

I have been trying some additional pellets in the latest Short Mutant with the latest factory barrel and I think I found one winner so far out of the four tested (Predator Long, JSB 13.43 and 14.3, and H&N FTT 14.66).

.22 Predator
I can’t get it to shoot the long .22 Predators (longs – didn’t try the shorts) well. Maybe good enough for hunting out to 50 yards but not in the 15.9 or 18.1 class.

.22 FTT 5.53 14.66 gr
After I gave up on those I tried a few other pellets and found another winner. I have a lot of H&N Field Target Trophy 5.53mm heads 14.66 grain on hand for my PRod. They shoot amazingly well at 50 yards – as good as the 18.1s in the SM. I need to chrony them – they must be flying around 900 fps. POI is to the left of the 18.1s nearly an inch. I also tried the JSB 13.43 and 14.3s and they were not as good as the best three 15.9, 18.1, and H&N FTT 14.66. I realize there is a mix on head sizes but I am noticing the larger heads are good on my gun.

Can someone else confirm if they have any .22 FTT 14.66 grains on hand and a Short Mutant with the latest factory barrel? TIA

It sounds the same as mine on the 18.1s.

JSB 18g batches seem to be the best for my CZ on a 220 bar fill at 800 fps it’s getting 42 shots.
JSB 16g is so far second best at 820 fps it’s getting 48 shots with a 1/4 turn reduction on the HST compared to the 18g.

It hates Poly Long (@810fps) and Short (@815 fps) unlike the Listone which shoots them very well out to 50 yards and seem to be less pellet picky IMO.
Soon to be Dremel time for it soon, I think ?

I tried the green H&N 12.65 grain pellets and they are a no go too.

Filling to 220+ bar and 800 fps nearly exactly for the 18.1s. Never counted shots yet or did chrony strings. Maybe three mags?

I have about a dozen different .22 pellets that are decent enough to try. I have tried 8 so far and none top the 18.1s and then 15.9s so far. 😛

JSB
13.43
14.3
15.9
18.1

H&N
14.66
21.1

Predator
.22 short
.22 long

Yep – we probably have to put what barrel in posts on the short mutant. Each shoots differently.

I have a few more pellets to try on mine. The h&n barracudas seem to shoot ok but are 21 grains and even slower than the 18.1s.

What is your fill pressure, shot count and speed you’re getting with the 18.1g ?

Holy cow you guys
There is no way your going to shoot all them pellets,
Your going to have to put them in your will.
I got a few 177s from the 1970s but just a few tins,
My Listone barrel Cricket seems to like the 16gr Polymags, I have five or six tins I need to use up, And I like the POP they make on the sparrows.
Sounds sick,,
Mike

The CZs I have own don’t seem to like the Polymags but I many need to open up the TP on my Listone to the CZ specs to get the best of both worlds. :winkn:

I saw three flyers with the FTTs just now in wet humid weather compared to the last few days. Scratch them off of the list. They were off to the top left nearly an inch is all cases. Strange. I tried the Polymag shorts and they shoot like the longs. 🙂 Probably ok for hunting out to 50 yards. 18.1s are still tops by far.

You can definitely feel that 5.53mm when you chamber them. Must be too large then.

CZ

It feeds into the inlet tight, a little hard to push/feed in compare to the softer JSBs.

GKU,

Which barrel did you use?

Coda

I’ve tried the H&N FTT today Coda with no very good results to brag about ………..

My Shorty is tuned to send JSB 16g @ 820 fps, I’m getting 4 mag = 48 shots from a 220 bar fill.
Without adjustment it sent H&N FTT @ 855 fps.

I’ve cleaned the barrel and everything, it show potential and then produces to many fliers.

Hoping someone else will chime in to a better result … with ….. ……
