Happy birthday Knifemaker
Finally finished Mike’s .257 setup just in time for his birthday.
Oldgoat(Ted) donated a .257 barrel. I cut it down to 21″ and machined it probably a month ago. Yesterday I made the over sized bushing. Today I finished them and made a 105 gr hammer.
I also turned one of my .25 valves into a spin-loc valve and I have a first gen spin-loc collar so he can fill and have a gauge with the maddog stock.
This will be a .257 running off a ported out .25 valve. Hoping it will shoot 900 fps with 74 gr.

OK! 😀 Just got back in from casting my first bullets ever and it ended up being only one bad one in 54 bullets. All the rest are pretty much picture perfect! Rc said that it would take a couple of casting sessions to get good results. I got lucky and was blessed with Beginners Luck. 😀 (And I didn’t manage to burn myself HeHe.)
RC ask me to measure them, and I just did. Hard to believe, but they cast at .2573-4 and size to .2573 So the sizer is going to be used for not much more than making them perfectly round. :8:
Nice!!! 😀

Well, I finally got the parts in, and got her together. Trigger jamed. Took her down again, and the Damed Super-Sear had sheared in half. Called AOA, and of course-“No Warranty of the Super-Sear from Steve NC. Grrrrr!! 👿
I did my typican unorthodocy barrel polishing technique, and polished the leade in the breach. Woo_Hoo!!! She was accurate out of the Gate!
AT 80 yards, she settled down to apx. 1-1/4 the 74 grain Lyman 257430 bullets, and the hollow points that RC cast up. And a bit better than that with the 84 Grain NOE Flat points that he cast.
:8:
RC said that it would only get better with a bit more shooting! You Just can’t beat that
She is hitting with 141 fpe right now with the Lymans, with the power wheel on 5, and a soft “O” ring behind the top hat for sound deadening. Both of which hender top velocity. So a bit more is there to go yet. This matches what I got with the gun first assembled and set at 9. The increase came from fully mirrow polishing the breach hand hammer riding part of the barrel for less friction and the beginning of the polishing of interior of the barrel. (Which I will do more of at a future date.) The crown I will leave alone, as Doug did a super Job on it! :8:
Heading out to the shop to try to learn casting. Fingers Crossed!

Well, It’s finally raining outside, and I almost never post pics inside. 😉
Besides, It looks kinda funny without a breach. 😆
I tried out the quick fill. Man that is nice. Nice having a gauge on the gun too!
Kinda makes it hard to check shroud alignment, but it seems to be doing just fine.
I’ll call AF in the morning and order a breach.

Where are the pics of it all together?
Trying again! Grrrrr!!! 👿
The Good- The Bad-The Ugly!
The Good= 😀 Extreemly Good Craftsmanship! Great fit, and very nice finish on everything!
The Bad= Bad Ass! 😈 Holy Crap Bat-Man. This thing Ain’t your Daddys BB Gun! 😯 😆 The first shot over the Chrony was 926 or 927 fps. Woo-Hoo! and from only a 21″ Barrel. Yeah Baby! (This was with 74. Bullets)
While testing at 80 yards, MY neghbor, (The Ass Hole) had put an old steel oil drum by my berm. So—I decided to let her have it. This thing puts holes the size of Quarters thru it. ( The ass-hole had commented several times that only a REAL gun would go thru it) LOL!
The dumb ass had moved the barrel to the left of my earthen berm and had been shooting the barrel with .22lr and .223. Shooting right past the berm and thru the trees into the adjoining ranchers pasture. Full of cattle, and hands tending them. The man is a Retired Houston cop, and always bragg’n about how good he is with a gun. Shit, he couldn’t the barrel at all from 50 yards with his 45, 40, or 9mm. And talks with his hands WITH a gun in them! What a Fuck Tard! 👿 ( Sorry, every time I think of him, I get majorly Pissed off.
He is now banned from my range. Period.
The first few shots were not too good. About 2-2and 1/2″ at 50 yards, but I expected this from the virgin Barrel. By shots 20 on, she was about 1-1/14″ at 50 yards. Now what is strange, she didn’t open up one I odta at 80 Yards. In fact the last two groups tightened up to . 512 adn .518. Un-real! This was with some .257.420 Lyman cast Bullets that RC sent for me to try. They were Moly coated, and I have no Idea as to whether this helped or not. I have a lot to learn.
The Ugly= The breach “Blew the Hell Up” ( can I say Thank You Shooting Glasses???), at around shot 30. Nothing to do with Dyotat’s work, as I have been hammering this gun for 7-8 years now. And ususally shooting just about evey day. So I guess it has held up well. I also had put a cut in the breach for the “O” Ring Mod, so there were stress risers induced as well.
So now the wait for a new Breach. Always on a Week-End isn’t it!!! 😆
So more to come. Lot’s More!

Yes but now you are limited to a .25 valve. With .375″ breech the valve is larger and makes more power.
Mikes barrel is 21″.
I’m getting around 950 fps with 70 gr in 24″ barrel. I also opened up his valve some to try and give it a little more.
So you would be making the same power as your .25 but add the 40 fps for the 4″ of barrel length.
28″ .257 should make 1020-1030 fps and setup at a 1000 fps should get a good shot string.
Cedric’s .257 is 26.625″ barrel and it shoots good at a 1000 fps.
With .25 valve you would be maxxed out and lucky to break 1000 fps.
He said it is shooting 927 fps and gets 8 or 9 shots before POI changes at 80 yds. I guess after about 30 shots his breech blew up. So he is going to order one on Monday.
You were able to turndown .257 barrel to fit a stock AF breech?
Pardon me a second Mike to apologize to Ken_r. I misunderstood his subtility about you being young 🙄
I’ve been communicating with ken_r and he is a good addition to the group ❗
Happy birthday again Mike and please post more of that lost review. Just maybe I can interest my grandson to build us two of them…
I tried posting the testing results twice and both times it got lost when I hit submit. 👿
I have a lot going on this morning with my wifes illness, but will try again this evening.
Bottom line, WOW!!! 😀 This thing is Damn. 😯 Now this is some “HorsePower!” 😈

So Mike got his gun up and running but is having issues posting.
He said it is shooting 927 fps and gets 8 or 9 shots before POI changes at 80 yds. I guess after about 30 shots his breech blew up. So he is going to order one on Monday.
Damn, I’m must be getting old., I noticed i repeated myself above. 😯 😳
Thanks RC! Putting her together this morning. 😀

Hi ken r, I’m about your age (ie. If your post isn’t just another Spam Bot).
I have thick glasses too, and sometimes drop a comment in the wrong topic.
You landed right in the middle of a wild B-Day Party.:!:
May I suggest you re-post in the OFF TOPIC .section where you might share your sincere concern about the kids.
Mike,
What shroud are you using ❓
I wonder what it sounds like without a shroud ❓

OK, so I did manage to get a little burned today. Picked up a piece to lead on the floor that was a LITTLE Hot! Well, may-be not that Hot, It just didn’t take long to look at it! 😳 😆
Posted the first group after fitting the LDC properly on the .257 in the post .257 Goodness. Bottom Line was .313 at80 yards. Woo-Hoo. This was with the Lyman 257420 in hollow Point that RC cast up for me to try.
Going to try my own cast .257420 tommorow. Wish me luck!
