Q:

Hard-sided case for Vulcan BP

I really like the hard-sided case that the Vulcan BP comes in. However, once a scope and LDC are affixed to the gun, it no longer fits in said case. Such a shame as I don’t have anything else to put in the AGT case at the moment. :sadn:

I’m just wondering what brand/model hard-side case everyone is using? I prefer that the case “fits like a glove” in that I have just enough room for maybe the AGT fill station, magazines, and a tin or two of pellets.

Cheers!

I really appreciate the photos of guns in a case. I would have never thought to put my fill station, whip, and extras in there.

In a nutshell:

PROTECTOR– Stronger seal certified to IP67, made with more heavy-duty HPX resin, more resistant to scratches, stainless steel wheel/latch/hinge pins.

STORM: Lighter weight, made of polypropylene, push-pull latches easier to use, alloy wheel/latch/hinge pins (not as strong and not resistant to corrosion).

Damn! Some airgun porn on here for sure… Nice collection if they’re all yours KAR

Thanks DoktorKAR! Okay, now I’m sold. I ordered the iM3100 Storm case. :8: It was only $7.00 more than the 1700; has a little more room, and I like the latches better.

On a side note, with an Athlon 6-24×50 scope, Atlas bi-pod, the butt stock adjusted down about 2cm, and a Fatboy, the gun just barely fits in the AGT case. Even with the moderator removed, there’s just not enough of a buffer zone between the case and gun for my comfort.

Thanks to everyone for the photos and input. I really appreciate it.

I had the opportunity to sight the gun in yesterday. It really hates RWS pellets, and at first I was completely bummed about the horrendous POI spread. So, I dipped into the 18,1 JSB Exact Jumbo’s. Huge difference with really tight groups.

I filled the gun once before shooting, and again afterwards. I made monstrous mistake when refilling the second time. I’m cascading from two HP95 (3442 psi) tanks for the initial fill, and then topping off from a SCBA. I only have one fill probe, so I have to swap it between two different fill stations.

Well, I didn’t get the probe engaged securely to the foster fitting and when I cracked the tank, the whip shot off of the probe and smashed against a bunch of plastic wet-vac attachments. It came off with such force that the foster fitting punched a hole in one of the attachments. I think I sh*t so hard that I may have lost my spleen.

Lesson learned, and from now on I will be wearing safety glasses as well as double checking all fittings before filling.

Cheers!

I like the storm cases latches a lot, easier and faster to open/close than pelican. But i didnt like the fact that these cases had 2 additional latches one on each side, i dont really think its usefull unless someone wants to swim with his case next to him…[emoji41] plus it requires more space to open the case, which made it impossible in the trunk of my car for example, where the case almost touched the sides of the trunk and didnt allow enough space to open these side latches…so had to get the case out of the car each time…

Storm cases are lighter and softer, its a different plastic material than pelican cases, it seems more “basic” plastic whereas the pelican seems to have a more sophisticated texture and feel, making it stronger and heavier. I used to own storm cases but sold them for one simple reason: i didnt like the way they looked after a few days of intensive usage…u will clearly see the scratches on the surface, and the case will quickly lose its matt finish and texture. On the other hand, i feel pelican cases look nicer and nicer after heavy usage, they kind of get old in a nicer way…

You might as well consider this storm case with a soft pouch inside of it. I have one and find it really nice and handy, the pouch can be used as a backpack once in the field, and you will not need to cut any foam.

Take care

One more thing:

DoktorKAR: There are hinges you can buy for the Pelican cases. They allow the case to open to 90º, but no further. I’ve read where people complain about the wind catching the “lid”, and that having the case all the way open takes up a lot of space.

It looks like I might be able to modify the bolts that hold the hinges to the case so that I can make them into quick-releases. With this modification, I would be able to open the case to 90º, or release the hinges so it can be opened fully.

What are your thoughts on this?

Hey zoey the 1700 cases only open to around 100 degrees as u can see in the picture. I remember having cases that opened all the way, and if i am not mistaken, they were bigger than 1700, probably 1720 or 1750. I even had 2 same size cases with different openings on each one, i wonder if pelican standardised the opening on all cases, generations, and sizes on their latest models, cauz all the one i have now only open at 100 degrees not more, which i personally prefer. I never keep the case open in the field anyway, dont want it to collect dust (or insects [emoji51]).

Pelican 1700,1720, or 1750, depending on the size of your rifle. A bit heavy but best protection and complete peace of mind. On these pics all cases are model 1700. One piece foam needs to be cutout to the shape of your stuff, then glued to the identical lower part foam using 3m spray or other foam glue that doesnt cause the foam to melt. One piece foam is more durable than all precut foams with square tear off system that inevitably starts to go all over the place after a while.

I was watching some YouTube videos in which they were comparing Plano and Pelican. This was a huge mistake on my part because now I’m vacillating between the two.

I sprayed the inside of mine with Plasti spray. It keeps all the foam sealed together, keeps it from coming apart when taking gun in and out.

My heavy ass pb is mounted in a hard case “up-side down” as well but it’s conducive to pulling out my gun in an ergonomic manner. Only my AR-15 and shotgun are placed with the sights toward the carry bag handle because it’s a soft case they’re transported in.

I considered that back when I started using this case. I decided on this orientation in the end purely for aesthetics.

The gun fits so tightly, that its not a problem at all.

You also have the scope downwards when carrying. Just pointing it out.

I also use the Plano All Weather case. I’ve had it for 2 years, and could not be more pleased.

My ONLY gripe…. its heavy. But that’s just ’cause it’s so damned tough! :winkn:

:8: It’s a great carrying case, very well made.

I see your cunning plan. Now you have everyones guns totally entombed in foam. 🙂
