Ok, I’m new to this stuff, and am looking at buying my first QUALITY air rifle. I’ve decided to go with PCP since I already have a couple cheap springers. They do fine at short range, but after that, well, you can imagine. . .
After doing my research, I found that the Air Force rifles seem to be a pretty darn good rifle, and it fits what I need it to do. I am a falconer and need to put small game in the freezer to feed my raptors. I want the rifle to be accurate enough to do head shots on squirrels and rabbits out to about 50 yards — maybe more. I hear that if I do my part, the air force rifles will certainly hold up their end of the bargain at that distance.
I’ve decided to go with .22 caliber, but need to know the differences between the condor, the talon, and the ss rifles.
Oh — one more thing: Where does the .25 caliber shine the best? I have no experience with this caliber, but haven’t completely ruled it out. All my springers have been .177 and I am leaning towards the .22, unless there is a huge advantage to the .25 in the air force rifles that someone may be able to tell me about.

Yes the .25 can be shrouded as well as any other barrel you put on it. Several people on this forum can make you a shroud.
As for trajectory there are too many variables involved to give you an answer. You can lob pellets or shoot them like a laser if you wanted to. Which of the three do you plan on getting?
The .22 Cal is difference with .25, yeah you can get the .22 cal now and upgrade it to .25 later if needed. it will require heavier hammer/spring and hi air-flow to push the .25 cal weight.
Check the Sale section from time to time, you may get good deal there.
AWESOME!!! Thanks for the info guys! So if I get the .22 now, if I understand corectly, I can always get a .25 barrel later on if I so desired. I noticed you said these were stock rifles you were talking about. If I ended up getting the .25 barrel sometime, can it be quieted down with a moderator, or shroud, or whatever ya call those things? I’m thinkin that punchin a big freakin quarter inch hole in things is sounding more and more fun! I guess a big freakin quarter inch hole in a sparrow wouldn’t leave much left for feeding to my raptors though!!! 🙂
What kind of trajectory does a .22 and a .25 have anyway? I mean, I know this depends on how fast you’re crankin them out of the barrel, but can ya give me an idea? If possible, can ya give me some suggestions on power settings and what this does to the trajectories of these two calibers? Maybe I’m askin to much with this one, I guess I’m hoping to find a pellet flinging junkie that might know this stuff.

Yes Airforce rifles are very accurate and in the hands of a skilled shooter can shoot 1 inch or even .5 inch groups consistantly at 50 yards. If my rifle shoots a group over 1 inch at 50 yards I know something is wrong. The Condor has a 24 inch barrel and can produce 65-70 ft lbs in stock form, it’s very loud, slighly heavier than the other two, and the best of the three for long range. The Talon has an 18 inch barrel so it’s shorter, produces 30-35ft lbs in stock form, still loud but not as loud as the Condor, twice as many shots per fill than the Condor, and still good for long range. The Talon SS has a 12 inch barrel but a built in shroud, produces 20-28 ft lbs in stock form, by far the most quiet of the three, about the same amount of shots per fill as the Talon, and accurate at long range but will be effected by the wind easily.
Airforce does not sell a .25 rifle but a barrel can be found here or at Talon Tunes. The main reason people get .25s is for power so if you don’t need over 65 ft lbs don’t get a .25. I think the only disadvantage of the .25 is less ammo to choose from and it cost more.

All of this is easily found and a lot more, but I’ll give the quick and dirty on your questions.
Talon…. regular valve, 18 inch barrel.
Talon SS… integral shroud, 12 inch barrel, regular valve
Condor…. 24 inch barrel, hi flow valve
Best of all worlds…. get a TalonSS and add a 24 inch barrel to it….
Read ‘New Talon Project’ in the ‘Talon’ section for my Talon 24 that has consistency that will put many regulated guns to shame….if I do say so myself.
All are more than capable of head shots on squirrel at 50 yards.
25 shines when you need knockdown for larger game such as coon, groundhog, fox and such at longer distances… past 50 yards…. or when you just want to make 1/4 inch holes in things!
