Hello fellow pneumatic hunters
I skipped proper protocol and started posting before a formal introduction, my bad, so here goes.
My first airgun was a FWB-124D at age 12 and I’ve been addicted ever since.
Living in CA I mostly hunted pigeons, HOSPs, and coyotes; with the occasional GS (using my .22 mag on the yotes).
After college I moved to NV and mostly hunted Jacks, crows, and yotes.
Got married and moved to WA. Our part of WA has a little bit of everything, especially Starlings. The Star infestation is really bad here. It’s like catching Brim in a dirty lake. Even with head shots it gets kind of boring. I mix up my shooting of Stars with trapping them for a falconer friend of mine.
I broke my PCP cherry with an Annuzzi TSS. Man, is this baby sweet! The change from springers to PCP was like going from walking to driving a Beemer! Holding a bead is so much easier with this thing. It almost feels like cheating.
This place has it all. Lots of info, stories, ball breaking, and politics. I think I’ll stay a while…

Great plan. Fun for the shooter, a real benefit for the owners (with hopefully minor risks). As you know, it takes some doing to make useful contact, let alone get through the concerns most owners are going to have. As a suggestion, even if you’re going to do the work with the Talon, take a less scary looking springer in the trunk when you make the callls. I use one of my R7s. If it comes to that point, you want something that looks familar and not something Rambo would be using. No camo (even if you’re going to suit up on the job). Handled carefully it can be done but most folks aren’t real big on starangers with guns wondering around.

Secret be known. I rarely shoot my TSS. My go to rifle is my Webley Tomahawk Walnut (UK). For HOSP I always use my 124. Hell, I try and shoot all my springers now and then.
Eventually I’m going out this spring to get shooting permission on the local farms; we’ve got a bunch of them around here. I’m hoping to help them with a little nonindigenous animal control (read: HOSP & Starlings). This method worked at least in CA and NV for ranchers with a coyote problem. For this new venture I’ll be using my TSS. Mostly, because it’s so damn quiet.

At one time nuisance deer could be shot and donated to the sheriff’s dept. for orphanages and the poor. But I believe they stopped that program.
Can’t feed humans wild meat you know. Caused too many problems with the “OH MY God, he Killed a defensive animal” Anti’s!!! 👿
Oddly enough, in the much more highly country of Germany, There are wild game restaurants all over the place, where game keepers, (Hunters) provide the wild boar, and Red Stag for even meals.
Seems to me that we have gotten a little too politically correct in this country for our own good! Common sense has been thrown out the window with the bath watter in favor of never offending any one.
I never could figure out why it is OK to offend the majority of the people in order to not offend the minority of the people.

I have seen so many things change from the practical- to the ridiculous in my short life time. I miss the freedom I grew up with. The younger generation don’t see the problem. They never had the opportunity of enjoying the freedoms many of grew up with. 🙁
They have no idea of what has already been lost. Because of this, they don’t think much about it when more new laws are passed that encroach on their rights and freedoms. The speed of this has been greatly increased in the. name of safety and security since 911. Just as Benjamin Franklin said it would happen. A nation that would trade freedom for security, will know neither. (Sorta Close) I’m not a scholar).

I agree that PCP is the cadillac; but there is still a fun novelity about shooting springers. On some forums, springer guys have a real chip on their shoulder about not using PCP; but of course the best way is to shoot a little of both and some CO2 too. Springers are especially good for guys that can’t read pressure gauges, or can’t count past 5.
Oh yes, I’ve been to the Bay Area many a time. Though, I prefer its outskirts of Napa/Sonoma, Monterey, and Santa Rosa. I’m with you. It is WAY too congested downtown!
Question: Does Scoma’s still make the Best Damn Cioppino in the greater US?
I’m working my way through the program now. Most of the “card carrying members” I speak to have their’s for the Elk tags. A lot of their hunting is done out of season to control the Wapiti populations (one of the many bonuses of having your certification). I’m not a big game hunter by any stretch of the imagination. I just thought it would be a neat little challenge to join up.
You were so well versed in WA State’s hunting laws I just figured you lived here. A big DUH on my part.

Sorry I missed this. I live in the San Francisco bay area (east bay). I generally go to the central valley or down the coast to hunt. Nothing to hunt near by, just cities large and small with very few unincorporated areas. Too many people.
The Master Hunter program looks super. It conveys the idea that hunters will progress and support each other in that process as I read it, like the Mentoring part under Stewardship. All positive stuff. Too bad it’s Washington, I’d like to go for it…makes too much sense for California. Then again, you know that.

So what the hell are you supposed to do with all that “pest” venison? To waste it makes no sense at all. Pest, in season, killed by a vehicle, it’s all the same end result (good meat that should be harvested and not thrown away). In NV, when you kill a deer with your car accidentally, you call a game warden. He documents the situation then LETS YOU KEEP THE MEAT.
Mike, things could be worse, you could live in CA (where I was raised). Politics are getting down right ass-backwards there. You now reside in the most commendable state in the union, IMO. As states go your records on voting, laws passed, politicians holding office, and my favorite “state execution” (10 already in 2009 alone) is way above par.
Don’t Mess With Texas!
In most states, when animals become pest, or nuance animals, particularly on farms and ranches, the game laws that normally protect them don’t apply. So you may control them as necessary. For instance, Deer here than destroy crops may be shot as varmints. However you are not allowed to eat them when killed as pest. This would put them back into game animal status and become a crime. Shame to let good meat go to waste.

Yep, they shit on everything. I usually use Kodiaks for the long shots, but I just love the destruction that a Predator does on <30 yard shots.

Problem in Texas now is that all these damed Cali. companies closing up shop to get away from the Cali. government and come to Texas to get away all the Cali. taxes, and Cali. EPA. crap. But then they turn right around and send their lobbies to Austin to try and change Texas into Cali!
They all need to go the Hell home!
