Hello fellow pneumatic hunters
I skipped proper protocol and started posting before a formal introduction, my bad, so here goes.
My first airgun was a FWB-124D at age 12 and I’ve been addicted ever since.
Living in CA I mostly hunted pigeons, HOSPs, and coyotes; with the occasional GS (using my .22 mag on the yotes).
After college I moved to NV and mostly hunted Jacks, crows, and yotes.
Got married and moved to WA. Our part of WA has a little bit of everything, especially Starlings. The Star infestation is really bad here. It’s like catching Brim in a dirty lake. Even with head shots it gets kind of boring. I mix up my shooting of Stars with trapping them for a falconer friend of mine.
I broke my PCP cherry with an Annuzzi TSS. Man, is this baby sweet! The change from springers to PCP was like going from walking to driving a Beemer! Holding a bead is so much easier with this thing. It almost feels like cheating.
This place has it all. Lots of info, stories, ball breaking, and politics. I think I’ll stay a while…

Never been a Master Hunter but I’ve done some Master Baiting once upon a time…. I quit when I found out it was illegal AND I’d go blind !

Sounds good to me, Brad. I suspect most wardens are OK with a true pest racoon being shot with an airgun off the record (after all, the alternative is trapping and then killing it….). But it’s important to keep the rules in mind seems to me. Sport hunting game with airguns is out, almost all shooting in city limits is out (let alone hunting).
And for sure we don’t want folks to read a post here and figure ‘hey, that’s a neat idea, put some cat food out in the backyard, the racoons will come, and I’ll have something to kill’. Doesn’t do the sport any good I can see.
Not sure what a Master Hunter’s License, here we have a single grade. Got one of them (of course or hunting anything with fur or feathers, pests included, would be a bust….), does that count? Years ago I used to teach Hunter Ed, forgot most of that stuff…….

I spoke privately with an Olympia game warden at a recent C.O.R.T meeting. I explained my critter situation on the property. When I got to raccoons he didn’t seem to care. Though, admittedly, I didn’t reveal my cat food in a bowl method.
Yes, I’ll watch my use of verbiage on this forum.

I’d be careful with shooting racoons with airguns, it’s illegal in Washington (firearms, archery or falcons only). And while hunting in the backyard for pests might be fine, game hunting over bait is generally illegal as well (doesn’t matter who set the food out, or why).
For sure I wouldn’t advertise I’d been doing it, nor encouraging others to do so.

That’s a 24″ shop ruler. He’s about the average size around here. He was heavy though, as my wife will attest.
I bagged him up and left him infront of the garage to toss out later… Well, my poor wife saw the bag and decided to take it upon herself to “police the area”. When she got home from work she asked, “What the hell was in the black garbage bag? It was really heavy!” When I told her it was a coon I had shot. Her mouth dropped, she said nothing, turned, and just walked away.
Ooops.

I took this fat boy about two weeks ago. It was a short shot of about 18 yrds. The Kodiak caught him right behind the left ear. He made the mistake of taking the cat food I use to bait Starlings.
