Help? Matador fps is erratic all of the sudden.
I have about 3,500 pellets through my .22 standard . I’, shooting 15.9 gr for now because I’m out of 18.1, but 15.9s used to shoot around 985 and my 18.1s used to shoot around 890. I noticed a while ago that my edgun started shooting a little slower. I messed with the hst a little and it sped back up. Now it started to slow down again, so I turned the hst a little more. After a little longer I noticed my poa changing and I had to keep chasing my crosshairs around..up, down, up , up, down, down , etc. Again, I tried to mess with the hst. My gun would start off shooting slow, then it would ramp up to blazing speed as I shot more. Here is where it’s at now. I haven’t ever messed with the regulator, so I was wondering if something could come loose on it or something to make it shoot erratic? I’m new to these as you can tell, but for now my rws 48 is way more consistent than my Edgun :(. Here’s what it looked like a little bit ago when I shot a string.

its loose, very easy to turn.
How tight is that reg. adjusting screw supposed to feel ? Mine isn´t THAT loose but it´s easily turned/adjusted with a screw driver – not much force required at all.
Don´t tell me the reg is busted on my gun too !!
The regulator is dead. Ask Tony to replace it.
Thank you for your suggestions, Doc…I mean oldgoat! 🙂 I will give it a try today. Have you …or anyone else ever had that set screw come loose like that? Once I get everything set good, I wonder if there is something I can put on it so it wont easily come loose again and at the same time not interfere or contaminate anything in there where it has to be all clean and sparkly?

If you are in the 1030s; your reg is too high, unfortunately, I can’t tell you how much to turn the reg down/clockwise to get into the 880s.
You will need to pull the reg, put marks on the housing and reg adjustment screw that align for your current setting. Doing that will give you a starting point. ½ turn clockwise might get you in the ball park. Most people don’t hit it right the first time.
After you adjust the reg, turn the HST out 2 turns, shoot the gun and then keep turning the HST adjuster 1/8 turn in at a time until you get the max speed. If it takes you over 20 shots/adjustments before you get the max speed, refill and keep going.
If the max speed is higher than what you want, you need to turn the reg down some more.
Once you get it shooting at the max speed that you want, refill and shoot a shot string without touching the HST. Post the string here and we can help, if needed.
If you post a string and you keep adjusting the HST during the string, it just confuses everybody as to what the hell is going on.
Amazing…I must be on the right track, Demp. I just shot a about 20 shots and it is sucking down the air, but all my shots were consistent. It’s running pretty hot shooting the 15.9 gr between 1018 – 1030 but I’m getting way less shots and it is louder. Do you think I can slow it down and get more shots by unscrewing the hst a little, or do I also need to try to do something with the regulator? I know how to get to all of it now 🙂
…I fucking love you, man. That did the job! Even though that o-ring was all beat to hell, it isn’t leaking around the gauge either. I know why it’s all beat to hell like that though. When I first received my Edgun, it would leak around the gauge area when I would fill it. It still held air, but it leaked when I filled it so it took more air to fill it than it should of. I tightened the gauge some more, until it stopped leaking…that must have crunched the hell out of it. I will need to get one of those o-rings now, even though it isn’t leaking,,,just knowing it’s all screwed up will bug me…plus, I don’t want a jacked o-ring in my gun! lol. Anyway…now I can try to see if my erratic speed changes level out…again…thank you tons! You people on here are amazing!
Cock the gun when refilling from empty. The hammer is keeping valve open letting air pass by. Once you get air into it you can decock and fill completely and check if anything else leaks.
unfortunately, the o-ring where the gauge screws in that was tore up is too tore up and it leaks, keeping me from filling the gun now to see if the problem is solved. crap!
Just remember to clean all your bolt threads and put a tiny bit of antisieze on them. Makes taking apart and reassembly so much easier and greatly reduced chance of thread damage.
Thank you for your help and advice, Demp. I am amazed with how clean it was in there, but I went ahead and lubed her all up. I can see how this can be addicting since it isn’t as difficult as it sounded to me before. I never wanted to have to open her up like this before. I guess I’m not a virgin anymore, lol.
Good to see you may have found culprit. If you had foresight to mark your original HST location you can work back to it by adjusting reg. I have no clue exactly how much you need to turn your reg screw in based on your string but I would probably go 1 full turn in then run a couple strings playing with HST until you find best setting. See how close you get to original HST mark then adjust reg accordingly.
While your in there clean every little part thoroughly and lube Orings.

so…if anyone that can help is out there…I tore my gun apart for the first time to realize that I was afraid to take it apart for no reason. The thing is really simple and easy to tear down.
I found that the screw on the regulator is/was really loose…there is a screw under that one…which I am assuming is the one that adjusts the regulator. If that set screw is and was so loose, maybe it could have been making that adjusting screw move in or out with every shot? That adjusting screw moves VERY easily so I am wondering if it was moving around b/c the set screw wasn’t tight? What do you guys think? Now I don’t know if the adjusting screw is right or not, but I guess I will put it back together and see how it goes. also, when I released the air, not all of it would come out. I pressed the hammer down and waited for it to stop spilling out air, but the gauge read that there was still 90 bar still in it. Not matter how long or hard I pressed, the remaining air wouldn’t come out. I had to unscrew the gauge a little (real carefully) and let the rest of the air out like that. That one and only o-ring I don’t have for it, is the one that was at the bottom, where the gauge screws in at. It was a little rough around the edges, so I cleaned it up and put it back in to see how it goes.
Thanks demp…yes I have a plug in her, and I keep the gun really clean. I always wipe off my probe and keep the o-rings on the probe lightly lubed with diver’s grease.

Thank you Ed! Mine moves real easy with a slight touch…also my regulator comes loose at every part that screws together no matter how tight I try to get it.
